The staff here donât speak a word of English, despite several being very young students who are obliged to study English, but donât let that dissuade you from trying the perfectly acceptable if very standard range of satisfying fare, because itâs a pleasant experience with shy, attentive, gracious service and a close-up look at life in this rather provincial pocket of the Ibaraki countryside. Seating options include tables and chairs, individual âboothsâ with low tables and tatami flooring, as well as a variety of private Japanese style parlors. The interior is typical Japanese, lots of wood and bamboo and shoji, where if you elect to use the Japanese tatami options, youâve got to remove your shoes. The young servers will do their best to make you comfortable but if you need support for your back, the tables and chairs are the obvious choice for many foreigners not accustomed to sitting on the tatami mat floors. The food is very inexpensive and the menu is fairly extensive, from deep fried chicken and ginger pork to tempura and fried seafood. I had a tasty garlic pork sautée with miso soup, pickles and steamed white rice, for under Â¥1,000. The tastes seem very homemade, like granny from the next paddy field over is handling things in the kitchen. Miwatei certainly does not serve haute cuisine, but it is well patronized by the local community. Sake and beers are on the menu. Itâs a good place for hungry people and a look at the citizens of the rapidly shrinking but still picturesque village of Miwa.

This restaurant is located in Hitachiomiya-shi, Ibaraki where I was born and grew up.I would highly recommend "Curry Namban Udon".There is a farmers market next to it.You can buy home grown fresh vegetables.
