Welcome to a capital city whose story goes back at least 3000 years. In Beijing, you'll find a wealth of history, both ancient (the Hall of Preserving Harmony, Summer Palace, Forbidden City) and more recent (Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, Tiananmen Square). For the best market experience, choose the Dirt Market over the touristy Silk Market. A visit to the Great Wall, the longest manmade structure in the world, is absolutely essential.

The newly refurbished Garden Court is elegantly designed, featuring a private room and al fresco dining.
We had the breakfast buffet here and the selection was awesome. (Not sure of the price, as we got it included with rate.) There was a large selection of Western (style) food, as well as authentic Chinese items. Service here was a little spotty, but maybe with a buffet that is what you sometimes get.

This is a big space and attracted large crowd however they had a good system and kept it all under control. The variety of food/cuisine are plentiful- they have anything you could possibly imagine. E.g. lobster you get to choose boil or bbq. Oyster from New Zealand or France. They were quite good quality too. Upon arrival, you also get a sea urchin to share between 2. They also bring out their trolleys from time to time offering side table choices. Good concept how they mix it up. Not sure why offering pumpkin soup in apr and decorated in fallen leaves. Maybe more suitable for autumn? Full of expats but I can imagine why itâs a good place to go with your friends. Must go if you are into brunch.

Usually, the Sunday buffet of most restaurants is an exciting affair of freshly prepared, showcased food that entices you back again ... and again ... and again.Unfortunately, a single visit to each of the stations was enough for me at the Food Studio Sunday buffet.Arriving a little early (30 minutes) for lunch, I had an opportunity to watch the food being set up for service. Indeed most of the food had been set up well before my arrival, which is where the issues start.I like sushi and sashimi. Both were available but neither were chilled which is a bit like playing Russian roulette. Fortunately, no misadventures. The cooked prawns were plentiful as were the "whelks". Overall, this was the best counter.Cauliflower soup tasted as per the label, could have done with a touch more seasoning. The dimsum were disappointing. Instead of getting parcels of scolding hot liquid, the liquid had drained away to leave a "soggy bottom". The steamed buns were ok.The BBQ meat was terrible. Warmed through in a microwave, followed by a quick flip on the flat grill and then, if you weren't ready to collect, kept warm under a salamander. It was tough and tasted unpleasant. The salads, promoted as "healthy", were very unappealing. The cucumber had been sitting around for so long it was dry and curling at the edges. The eggs benedict, I think that that was intended, also suffered from sitting around, the sauce had actually set as a layer, the egg was solid, the "muffin" was crusty but not in a good way.The pizza ... was to be avoided. The hot dishes were ok, but not a great variety (the steamed fish was the best). The cauliflower and tomato was actually with bacon not tomato - which could have been a problem for the non-meat eating fraternity.I didn't try the noodle dishes.Overall nothing that I would rush back to eat. But, hungry one evening and not wanting to venture out, I ventured back to the Food Studio. This time the "a la carte" menu was presented. I chose, French onion soup, stuffed bean curd rolls and Hiananese chicken rice - an odd combination maybe but my taste buds said that that is what they fancied. The bean curd rolls do not arrive as shown in the "electronic" menu (nicely arranged on a serving platter) but in the basket in which, I think, they were deep fried. They were ok, the tomato ketchup sauce on the side was a slight surprise. But the taste bud bucket list was ticked, perhaps not to be returned to again. The French onion soup arrived almost at the same time as the bean curd rolls, which was fine. The two croutons, slices of bread with toasted cheese, were a ok. The soup also ok, but not the classical depth of onion flavour that you might expect. The Hiananese chicken rice arrived in close procession. Again, the biggest let down was the rice as per the hotel's Wanli restaurant. It was hard & inedible (even after dousing with the the accompanying broth). The chicken was ok, made better by the dipping sauces.Again, not a meal that would entice me to return.Redemption was, partly, on hand the other evening when I fancied a "snack" whilst in the R Bar.I asked for the bar menu and was presented with the electronic menu showing the Food Studio page. With some apprehension, I flicked through the "pages", avoiding all of the above (which didn't leave a lot). My eye caught "Rigatoni Bolognese" heralded as beef ragu, pancetta, rosemary & Parmesan cheese - well even if microwaved from frozen (which is not unknown when at home), it can't be that bad. It arrived promptly and I was delighted that it was a tasty dish of rigatoni pasta with a meat sauce. This I would happily eat again.

Made a reservation for a table on Halloween Night. We were all dressed up and excited to celebrate Halloween. Our table was supposed to be ready at 18:00, however we were "kindly" requested to wait at the terrace. After one our of waiting the restaurant was finally able to offer us a table...To make things even worse, the food took ages, destroying our plans for the evening. It made us really wonder what the point is of making a reservation if there is no table ready anywhere near the scheduled time.Only if our experience resembled anything like the last time we visited Hulu.On the bright side, drinks were good.Dear andrewNYCUSA,Warmest greetings from Hulu by TRB!Thank you very much for your feedback from you current dining experience at Hulu. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused due to the complication with reservations. Tried the BLD out for a quick lunch. Ordered the Latino sandwich which was very good but a bit light on chicken. The sandwiches comes with a choice of either fries or mesclun salad, the mesclun turned out to be iceberg salad with pickled onions, pickled cucumber and pepper, not really what I had in mind. The staff is great but should have informed me of the change.Dear Customer,Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with us, we apologize that your experience at BLD restaurant didn't meet your expectations. Please rest assured that we take your comments very seriously and will share with our culinary and service team alike, we will do our very best to improve for the future. We hope we have the opportunity to welcome you once again in BLD restaurant.Have a wonderful day,

There are several options available for dinner buffet. Indian, Chinese, Western. I had an Indian-spiced lamb chop that was perfectly cooked. Nan was good. Lobster claws were tender but salty. Salads looked a little old. The desserts were not very good--at least to Western tastes. The ice cream was good (only 1 scoop of ice cream is offered--you must specifically ask for more). There are containers of orange juice, water, and milk tea (cold) available at the entrance. I don't know if alcohol is available. We couldn't track down anyone to ask. No one removed our dirty plates.Overall, disappointing. The restaurant tables, placemats, chairs could all stand a good scrubbing.Dear jillalex, thank you for taking time to write a comment for us. I would like to express my regret for the disappointment you experienced during your dinner in Cafe Cha. Food quality and service standards are of utmost importance to us as we continuously strive to improve our service levels. We will use this feedback constructively to ensure we are more vigilant monitoring this area. We look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to offer you a true Shangri-La experience.
