Reviews on Indonesian food in Berastagi, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Berastagi (Dutch: Brastagi), meaning "rice store", is a town and district of Karo Regency situated on a crossroads on the main route linking the Karo highlands of Northern Sumatra to the coastal city of Medan. Berastagi town is located around 66 kilometers (41 miles) south of Medan and about 1,300 meters (4300 feet) above sea level. The village rose to significance when Dutch settlers in Sumatra opened a boarding school there in the 1920s.

We dined at this eatery as part of the TobaTransporter package while staying at Mikie resort.Atmosphere was quiant and service was efficient but both time we were there, we did not see alot of guest, only 20% filled so we are unsure if it's a popular eatery.Food was ok and edible.
The place is very central and food is not bad. I have eaten here several times - they tend to increase the price of items on the final bill, which is more than in the menu. It is the girl at the counter...bad practice. I do not like people doing dishonest business. Please check your bill.
Good Food & Coffee. Crispy Chicken Wing dan ayam saus madu nya mantap. One of my favourite. Kopi Susunya is the best. Recomended

Our lunch here was the best of three restaurants we tried in Berastagi. All of our choices including their juices were delicious. Fish was fresh and crispy; vegetables cooked to perfection. Our server was kind and explained the different choices to us in excellent English.Highly recommended.

Understand that this is the oldest cafe-restaurant in Berastagi. The current owner Juli was previously a staff who now owns the cafe-restaurant. The location is at the eastern end of the street and does not get the crowds. The interior of the restaurant feels extremely old and unhygienic. If has definitely seen better days and is in urgent need of a make over. The menu is vast offering breakfast, sandwiches, juices, Indonesian, Western and Indian food. The food was ok so to speak and one would want to dine outside where there are two tables rather than inside which feels claustrophobic.A fresh coat of paint and some cleaning and new furniture would go a long way in resurrecting the oldest cafe in Berastagi. This is a good place to rent scooters and also for shared transportation which is way cheaper than offered by the hotels.not a good rate if you are changing USD or Euro.

One of the few good local restaurants, the "Family" is well know by the local people of Berastagi and there are always people eating. They also have an English menu card. We had 2 dinners and 1 lunch over there and it was great!
The restaurant is full of flies. They have lit candles on the table but it's not enough to keep the flies away. My son fell sick after eating in this restaurant. Do not eat here.
I have eaten here many times. The staff don't seem very smart or able to learn. They always bring an Indonesian menu, even after many visits and they know I speak English. I told the owner but no change. Other than that pretty decent place.

Berastagi does not exactly have vast choices of restaurants, and considering the nice atmospherethe Jabu shows we had to give it a shot. There are other comments mentioning the portionsizes are pathetically small, along with the foodbeing nothing special. Remarkably accurate, alongwith the horrifically filthy kitchen. I had a sneak peakas I washed my hands at the sink by the kitchen. To be honest, if I would have seen the kitchen beforeI ordered my food I would have not bothered to eatthere. The steam boat had super small portions along withlow quality fish balls etc..even the local cat would nottouch it. For 200,000 RP I was astounded how over priced it was. The traditional Ayam Ciperawas promoted but certainly nothing to write home about. There is no non smoking areas either which was annoying. On a positive note, the staff was reallykind and the coffee was note worthy.Come for the atmosphere and drinks, skip thefood. The owner needs to work on the quality/portionof food and cleanliness of his kitchen/ restaurant.Hey surfinraw, thanks for coming, and we will hard work to fix everything soon. Yeah you know berastagi not so many choices of restaurant(cause the cost problem) then we should pay more to sent so many ingredients from medan. We dont have more idea if you talk about quality, we already use the best quality what we had in north sumatra. :) , and by the way, near by the sink is not our kitchen, we use that as our storage room. Our kitchen is in another building.Hope we will better soon. Thank you.

Feel the taste coffee and local food with full of art interior in our cafe !!! A bit far away from city
Deep art cafe is a very refreshing place to the indonesian standards. The owners are very friendly people who are interested in your culture and love to chat with you. Itâs a place where people love art which they or produce themselves or promote other artists works. Expect a cosy cafe, hanging full of art. A friendly staff and excellent indonesian food and beverages.
