Really surprised at the decor in comparison to the hotel, it was lovely. Everything from the crockery, copper cutlery & rose folded napkins. Just gorgeous. The lady who served us was so friendly and knowledgable even recommending drinks etc. The food was first class and great portions we were so full we couldnât manage anything else other than a main. Ordered chicken tikka Rogan Josh described as medium to hot - OMG it wasnât even mild! It smelt off!!!! My wife ordered Chicken Tikka Masala which in here own words âthis is very poor and doesnât taste like masalaâ. We will definitely not be going back to this restaurant again.

Situated beside the River Wear in Durham City, Amaani Durham is an Indian restaurant serving elegantly crafted Indian cuisine.
Visited last week for our anniversary. Booked about a week in advance and were shown to our table promptly on arrival. Our drinks and food orders were taken quickly. Poppadoms and dips were given straight away followed by our starters within seconds of us finishing them. The starters were poor, onion bhajis were very dry and bland - possibly the worst we've ever had in any Indian restaurant. No sooner had I put down my cutlery then the main was thrust onto the table. The curry was better quality and tasted good but the speed of service was so quick I struggled to eat it all. A 10-15 minute break between courses would be much better. Again, as soon as we had finished a waiter appeared and asked for further orders. We said no and were promptly given the bill without requesting it - I still had 3/4 of a pint and my wife a glass of wine to drink! All in all the whole experience took just shy of an hour! which spoiled what should have been a special evening. There are many better Indian restaurants than this and we would not return here again.

Thali Tuesdays! Yes please, thankfully I arrived on a Tuesday! Two beautiful curries, rice, naan, Bombay potatoes, and a starter for £10.95! Wow! The menu here is very interesting too, there is a lot of dishes Iâve not tried before. I went away very happy, thanks guys.

Spent the night in Ferryhill on way home from our holidays and we were a bit apprehensive taking our 6 year old into an Indian, sheâs not a curry fan, but she loved it. Not a traditional meal but we managed to get something for her to eat.My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals, really tasty, and the service was outstanding. Not from the area but would love to come back.

Shaheens is a well established buisness Located 100 yards from durham cathedral Shaheen's is a warm and welcoming place For families and individuals Shaheens has been serving durham for over 30 years, priding ourselves in a traditional and authentic india
What a great experience! We visited on Saturday night. We hadnât booked and arrived early and were lucky enough to get a table. On arrival, we told the waiter about my husbandâs allergy to cowâs milk and the staff were amazing. The chef came out of the kitchen to advise us on the dishes we could eat and she offered to take our order to ensure that we selected options that were free from cowâs milk. The food arrived and we were not disappointed. The popadoms, onion bhajis, tandoori king prawns, prawn dupiaza and prawn madras were absolutely delicious. The staff even made my husband his own parathas bread made from oil rather than butter. The food was fantastic and the service was impeccable. It is great to find a restaurant with employees that really care. We will definitely be coming back. Thank you very much for a fantastic experience!
