tried viraj restaurant in darlington for the first time tonight - it was amazing. 10/10. firstly, the food was perfect. started with poppadoms and dips...then had butter chicken, lamb rogan josh & shared some chips, keema rice and a cheese naan. so fresh, tasty and moreish. secondly, the staff were so lovely and chatty and genuinely cared about their business. thirdly, the restaurant is small and intimate with around 6 tables - which created a perfect atmosphere. itâs their 1st year anniversary next week & theyâre hosting a party on the sunday - look in to it as theyâre offering a really good deal. we canât go as weâre out for fireworks otherwise i would have defos gone back! loved it!

Donât know what happened but lately the food has become poor. Smaller portions, food that is tasteless and often quite different from my previous visits.I believe the Chef has been changed and you can tell, it is just not the same, bring back the old Chef and you will bring back the Sparkle this restaurant used to have in spades!

After reading many great reviews we decided to try Akbar. We were not disappointed, the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The food was delicious, the sort of dishes you feel the recipes go back generations and should remain top secret. Would be interested to try some of their Thai dishes next time.

Fancied an Indian between Christmas and New Year and ordered from what has become our favourite Indian takeaway - although it is a restaurant and you can eat in. The chicken chaat was delicious followed by a fabulous chicken tikka masala. Their mushroom pilau rice is also fab. If you love a nice Indian this is a definite one to try.

I rang a few days ahead to ask/check if there were any vegan options, as we wanted to order on New Years Eve...the gentleman I spoke to named Saeed (sorry if spelling wrong) was very helpful and organised for me to have a vegetable balti and vegetable pilau prepared without butter or ghee. My mum had the chicken exotica and said it was amazing. Delivery was quick and the driver was very pleasant. Prices were very reasonable, food was very tasty but not overly oily as sometimes this type of cuisine is. Will definitely be ordering again. Thank you guys!

Haven't actually been in more than timescale on here but from memory was excellent clean tasty good value food. Recently passed by poor looking location on upper floor of main shopping area and signage needs fixing might try again but those things would put you off.
