We booked an overnight stop over here on the way back through France. It was a slight improvement over a formula 1 but that's not saying much! The whole building is badly maintained and the room wasn't much better. We booked a double room with a seperate bed for our daughter, we got a room with a roll out extra bed and the only place to put it was blocking the bedroom door. I definitely won't be back.

There was no control for the air conditioning unit. The coffee and drinks machine in the entrace-way was out of order. There was no towel, mat for the floor in the shower. The fan in the bathroom did not work The atmosphere was musty and smoky, there was an ashtray on the table. The room was shabby and grubby. The linen was rough and the pillow lumpy and need replacing Breakfast was good. I have stayed with Accor many times - they are my choice hotel for France, but will avoid at Budgets in future

A huge thank you to the member of staff, I think called Cecelia, who made our stay here. She checked us in at reception, served us drinks from the bar, took orders and served at dinner, recommended a lovely wine, chose my cheeses and we saw her the next day either supervising or doing the housekeeping of the rooms, she wasn't on duty when we left so couldn't thank her personally. All the staff were pleasant and helpful but I gained the impression that as in the UK they are all very busy as hospitality staff are scarce. Service at dinner was slow, the hotel was full. As others have said the hotel is situated off a busy main road in a shopping and light industrial area but has lovely grounds, well maintained, and ample parking. The bedrooms are in a block separate from the reception and dining areas. We walked up to old Thiers, about two miles away, for the exercise, its more pleasant, if a little further to go through the residential area back from the main road. It has a history as a knife making centre and particularly interesting to me was to walk up the river past many waterfalls and now abandoned industrial buildings, some reutilised, some not.

In need of a break? Stay in these traditional Japanese rooms - a real getaway to japan.! The rooms have been designed in accordance with japanese traditions and esthetics. ! With the help of architecture and interior design borrowed from japanese bed-and- breakfasts (minshuku), let your mind soar away.! The rooms are intended for one or two persons (children must be over 12).
Whilst strikingly different, Minshuku didn't do it for us. We couldn't gain access until 5.30 which necessitated us waiting for 2 hours in the car on a very hot day. We then had to our cases from the public car park 150 mts, across a bridge, uphill, downhill & upstairs. As we are both approaching 70 years of age, we found it hard to eat & sleep whilst on the floor. We couldn't find the fridge as advertised. The breakfast was of a Japanese nature & didn't suit our taste. I'm sure that younger people would find this place of interest but we felt the Japanese theme was a bit forced upon us, & of course, we were for forbidden to wear shoes.

We had only a short time to enjoy le Besset but the owner's hospitality was such that we felt that we had stayed longer! Arriving late, we were able to settle straight into our very comfortable bedroom, with everything that we needed on hand. Breakfast the next morning was a wonderfully relaxed and friendly moment with Lida and Kees taking the time to make us feel really welcome, even though we were just stopping overnight. We shall certainly stay again when our path takes us back to the Auvergne region. Thank you.

Old property and nicely decorated and very clean but in a rather run down town which has seen better days. Large room on the 2nd floor (no lift) with separate room for shower and washbasin. Dinner was very good from the set menu €27.50 and breakfast also. Service good and friendly and attentive.

We did not stay at the hotel but enjoyed an excellent lunch. I always believe that the way to taste whether a place feeds well is to choose the plat du jour. It came, the starter was a superb filled pastry. Only the French can do it this well I guess. The main course was a paupiette of chicken nicely presented with chips. The chips though nice wasn't like Macdonald's as one laughingly compares. The paupiette however was nicely cooked and pretty much succulent. Dessert was a panna cotta but I had cheese of the region as my partner had the last one. Panna Cotta was good I'm told. A few glasses of local wine and it was nicely complete. The service was good polite and not at all intrusive. Good lunch 60€ for 2 including 4 glasses of wine bottle of Chateldon. Better prices than London. But sitting by a river out in the sunshine. Yes a rather pleasant package overall.
