Stonefield Castle Hotel is an outstanding example of Scottish baronial architecture. Built in 1837, the Castle stands high on the famous Kintyre peninsula, commanding spectacular panoramic views over Loch Fyne. In keeping with its unique location and character, many of the original period furnishings have been retained to complement the timeless ambience that is Stonefield Castle. Guests can relax in the traditional elegance of wood panelled lounges with fine corniced ceilings, unwind on leisurely walks through the sixty acres of woodland grounds, or simply enjoy a leisurely pace of life far removed from the stress of city living.
We attended for a wedding The staff were very courteous and friendly. We were properly taken to our room not just shown the way. The food was excellent at every meal we had and the views stunning. Downside was the bar is very expensive £65 for 6 drinks. The library was also very dusty and it looked like it hadn’t been dusted in a while. I see they are short staffed which could be the cause .. £150 a room per night, not the cheapest room in the area. pricey for what you get.

I had stayed in the Anchor many years ago and decided it was a run of the mill affair but we wanted to get away and managed to get a one night stay as the Tarbet Regatta was on, plus the weather was playing ball for a change. What a change in the atmosphere as soon as we walked in. Very friendly greeting and asked if we were dinning with them that evening . As we had booked a restaurant for our visit we declined (but wish I had not) we made our way upstairs. The front loch view room which was spotlessly clean and bed linen up to a high standard. Bathroom was also v clean with all the toiletries provided etc. Breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of choice ,try the smoked haddock with poached egg yummy. We decided to stay for another night and we managed to get another loch view room and a dinner reservation . Oh boy someone in the kitchen really knows how to cook. I finally got some langoustine's for starters warm and with garlic and they hit the spot then halibut with crab risotto and pak choi . The other half did not have much of an appetite and chose the pate then a starter portion of mussels with gorgeous white wine sauce and rustic bread. He declared both were excellent. I would not hesitate to come back to the Anchor hotel and eat there on both nights. I think the towel rail heaters are due a wee look at as the general appearance of them is the one area that will probably be due a look at by the owners. But I feel sure that this will be on their "to do list " Wishing the new owners every success for the season. Liz Bryant

30 minutes from Tarbert & 15 minutes from Campbeltown. Ideally suited for exploring the Kintyre Peninsula, Gigha & Campbeltown. The house, has been newly renovated and is situated next to the cafe, stores and garden centre in Glenbarr. All 4 rooms have either en-suite or private WC/shower facilities. The rooms have TV and Wifi throughout the property.
Lovely hotel, we stayed in the loft, which has got a separate kitchen and lounge area. Very nice touch to have 2 pints of milk waiting in the fridge. Cleanliness is of a very high standard. The carpets were thick and bouncy, must have had a refurb not too long ago. Shower was s bit tricky to get to the right temperature but got there in the end. Duvet was filled with alpaca wool, very comfy as was the bed itself. Breakfast was in the cafe of the attached garden centre. Very tasty.and very good service. Really nothing to complain about, only that we should have planned to stay longer than the 1 night….

The Tarbert Hotel is a traditional harbour town hotel which faces the water. The cosy bar with log fire is popular with locals and visitors. A menu of home-made Scottish family meals is offered at lunchtime and evening with old favourites such as battered fish and chips, lasagne, steak, salads and hot home-made puddings. A friendly hotel with local charm
My friend and I had a really good stay at the Tarbert Hotel. Gail and Dean were really welcoming and helpful. This is a lovely hotel set in the situation overlooking Loch lomond. All the staff were so welcoming , friendly and helpful. We had a very nice stay and would recommend this hotel.

Our stay was overnight ahead of catching the Islay Ferry next morning. Being a 'Blue Badge' motorist we were able to park immediately below our room. The Islay Frigate is typical of its type - homely, limited in its offering but what it does it does well. Our bedroom was spacious, clean and well presented. The only disappointment is that the hotel is not currently serving evening meals. However there are lots of eating places along the harbour edge. The evening bar at the Frigate was busy but not intrusive. Breakfast was a little rushed with the ferry sailing timing but the Frigate manager seemed to be very capable in a multiple of roles! The essential ingredient in our holidays is the need to include our elderly Cocker Spaniel which the Frigate does well without being intrusive.
A very unique quirky Barge berthed on the quayside of Tarbert Harbour with 4 Luxury suites on board and all with views out over the Harbour and Marina. Situated in the centre of Tarbert and only yards away from all the main Restaurant's, Cafes, Bars and Supermarkets.

Beautiful bed and breakfast in the beautiful village of Tarbert. Mark and Aby were both friendly and knowledgable about the area and made our stay a treat, Rooms are comfy and we had a gorgeous view from our window. Breakfast was red hot and plentiful, set you up for the day. Spotlessly clean, and with excellent customer service, i would without hesitation recommend Struan House
