The hidden Tango Mar is located on the deserted Quizales beach at the Nicoya Peninsula on Costa Rica's Pacific Coast. It is a 150-acre (60Ha) exclusive private beachfront reserve with ample of added attractions. The blend of fine accommodations with exuberant jungle vegetation, exotic birds and wildlife makes Tango Mar the ideal hideaway for anyone who wants to enjoy refinement in a natural setting. With only 45 rooms, the philosophy of Tango Mar is to provide a personal, friendly, relaxed and attentive service. Tango Mar has a 9-hole Executive Golf Course tennis courts, swimming pools, stables with horses, 2 restaurants and bars, meeting room, spa, an organic garden and natural trails. It offers Beachfront rooms, Tropical Suites, Deluxe Beachfront rooms, Tiki suite, 2 wheelchair friendly rooms and 2 villas. Tango Mar is located in the biggest of the five blue zones that have been identified in the world.
We stayed at Tango Mar in March 2022, I think our expectation for this resort was too high as a result of the 4 star Giata rating on Trip Advisor. We have done a lot of international travel and from an international perspective this is at best a 3 star resort with 5 star pricing. Put this into context in Costa Rica it may very well be a 4 star resort but for the money I could have stayed at a nicer, better appointed resort anywhere in the Caribbean or Pacific Islands. This is not to say our trip was bad, the resort just didn't meet the price point. We stayed in a Tiki suite, it does have an obstructed ocean view but it is not ocean front; this is difficult to tell from the website but it sits on the resort driveway not the beach. For beach front you will want to stay in the large building that was obstructing our view of the ocean. The furniture in the room is unusable unless you enjoy sitting on church pews that have been designed for maximum discomfort. The mattress on the bed was very hard, about as comfortable as a futon mattress on a hardwood floor. There was a large intentional hole in the shower wall that allowed water to leak from the shower to room with the commode so that every morning you had to wade into a puddle of cold water in the bathroom until housekeeping cleaned it up. Speaking of housekeeping, either they don't tell anyone that stuff needs fixing or the resort manager doesn't care. Besides the whole in the wall, the sink barely drained and was clear it had been that way for a while. The "towel bar" was a $10 Walmart special, it was one of those arches with 4-5 cross bars that unscrew as you roll the towel on or off so the thing was constantly coming apart, the housekeepers would screw it back together by hand everyday so that as soon as you pulled a towel off the bar it would unscrew again. Seriously has no one heard of a screwdriver and thread lock? Last, I don't know if this is a Costa Rican Custom or if the plumbing was really incorrectly designed but there was a sign in the commode room that said to put the toilet paper (yes, including the stuff used to wipe your backside) in the trashcan because the pipes were too small. Yeah makes for a peasant aroma. We were only provided one wash cloth and one face towel a day, we did get two bath towels. We had to ask for additional wash cloth and face towel and the next day they took it away and only provided 1 again. We repeated this request again and the same results the next day, so it seems the expectation is couples share a washcloth and face towel. The in-room coffee maker is a 4 cup unit that takes ~30 minutes to brew a pot of coffee, no lie I have never seen a slower unit in my life. And if you still have an iPhone from before 2010 you're in luck they have an iHome that is bundled up on the counter in a mess of wires just for you. While we were there we couldn't use the beach or swim in the ocean due to Red Tide. Now this isn't an issue the resort can address as it is completely out of their control, but no one at the resort, including the owner ever mentioned to the guests that there was a red tide or that there is a neurological hazard to swimming in red tides. There were no signs indicating that there was a red tide and according to locals the red tide had been happening since January 2022. The Costa Rican Government even includes literature indicating it is unsafe to swim in or eat fish from a red tide. We saw adults actually taking their infants into the ocean right in the heart of the worst portion of the red tide. In regard to food, Costa Rica is not a foodie destination and the food at this resort is indicative of that fact. I would say the food at the resort is very pedantic but served too look nice and over priced. In other words, your grandma made some food and tossed some parsley on it as a garnish and then charged you $25 a plate. The kitchen is visible to guests and is very clean and reminiscent of a commercial kitchen in either Canada or the US. Staff: Super friendly, super helpful as is everyone we interacted with in Costa Rica. I would say the staff's treatment of the guests is the biggest selling point of the resort. Pool: Pool was clean and nice, the pool furniture needed to be replaced a couple of years ago. Most of the pool furniture was wore out, weathered and broken; again an issue for why this isn't a 4 star resort. For the number of guests that were present during our stay there were just enough pool chairs to accommodate everyone, but the resort was not full (I think someone told me they were at ~50% capacity). Sorry this is such a downer review, we did enjoy our stay at Tango Mar but it just didn't meet the price point. we went thinking this resort would be comparable to 4 star resort in a comparable destination but it wasn't and that fact just can't be ignored.

The resort was clean, rooms were quite nice and up to date, we had a walk out to a green space behind us. It is very important not to stay near the pool/ stage as the music is very loud till 1 am. The buffet was good but the a la carte restaurants are excellent, a must! The beach is wide and flat which is nice for walking as the sand is firm, however, the water is turbid, warm but not really a nice piece of ocean, other beaches 1/2 hr to 45 mins away are much nicer. 4 hours to the airport, would I go again? for a really good deal I suppose but not likely as there are other places in Costa Rica to see, all in all was a nice 12 days.

I stayed here originally in December as part of a kayak trip and is how I found the place. Enjoyed it so much I came back for another trip in March. Beautiful rooms, the pool is incredible, the area is super peaceful and right by the beach. The wildlife is amazing, I’ve seen howler monkeys right in the forest here along with the variety of birds, they have a turtle program so you might be able to see baby turtles released. The staff are great and made my stay wonderful. I felt like family at the end. Can’t wait to go back!

We stayed here in March 22 - originally planned to stay 4 nights but left after 2 (apparently this often happens) If you want seclusion and inflated prices ($6 for a small beer) and want to drive everywhere then this is the place for you. Breakfast was lovely, and hotel is beautiful to look at - but no information was give about anything- like breakfast times, how to find the beach etc. All outside lights switched off at 9.30 regardless of if anyone was still sat outside- and as we were sole guests - when the staff left at 9.30pm we were left completely alone in the hotel. Water in our superior room was sporadic and no hot or even warm water was available. Also no English spoken - which isn't a complaint but something to be aware of. If you do visit please feed the lovely little black cat.

The Hotel Costa Coral, located in Playa Tambor, is a 5 minutes walk from the beach. Costa Rica is busier then ever and is under new management. We are a clean, boutique hotel, with a beautifully landscaped garden & pool area. We are a great place for your home base as you take advantage of the many activities within a 30 min radius. We look forward to serving you.
This lovely family hotel is a hidden gem ideally located between the Curú and the Cabo blanco parks. The rooms are simple, clean, with air conditioning and good bed sheets. The place is located near by the road, but the noise didn’t bothered us. You don’t hear much in the rooms. Even by the pool, the traffic is only bad a few times during the day (according to the ferry hours). The included breakfast, specifically the “typico” was one of the best we had during the trip, by far. Products are simple, but quality is clearly there. The pool is really lovely, and we enjoyed having a refreshing swim after a day trip to one of the parks. The hotel also has a laundry service and a bar. Close by, the surroundings offers quite a few options to eat out. We would definitely recommend staying there if you are looking to explore that part of Costa Rica (Curù, Isla Tortuga, Cabo blanco) and you don’t want to change hotel every day. Excellent quality / price ratio. LGBTfriendly. Excellentfood.
