South Dakota has good golf courses, skiing, snowmobiling, horseback riding, hiking, and biking among rolling prairies, pine forests, and granite mountain peaks like Mount Rushmore. Glacial lakes and Missouri River reservoir lakes provide great fishing, boating, canoeing, water skiing, and windsurfing. The whole family will enjoy this prairie land where grain growing begat roadside attractions like the Corn Palace in Mitchell. Everything made from corn, even the popcorn, tastes better here. Where buffalo roam, roadside diners serve up buffalo and luscious homemade fruit pies. Shop for good deals on cowboy boots on the same Black Hills and Badland Main Streets where cowboys and cowgirls outfit themselves. Be near the eroded buttes, spires, and prairie grasslands of Badlands National Park in Lead, Deadwood, Rapid City, Spearfish, Sturgis, Hill City, Custer, and other nearby towns. The whole family will enjoy watching for big game like bison, bighorn sheep, antelope, eagles, and hawks. Drive the one-hour Hwy 240 loop road, with a side-trip to Robert's Prairie Dog Town. Learn about the Oglala Sioux Tribe at the White River Visitor Center, which is near Wounded Knee. Tour the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site's Cold War nuclear silos, just outside the Park's boundaries. About 90 minutes west of Badlands National Park is Mount Rushmore. Lead, Deadwood, Rapid City, Spearfish, Sturgis, Hill City, Whitetail Springs, and Custer are also very near Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Custer State Park, Wind Cave National Park, and Jewel Cave National Monument. View Mount Rushmore from the aerial tramway in Keystone, which also houses the Borglum Historical Center celebrating the artist behind the sculpting of Rushmore. Take the kids to the Dinosaur Park in Rapid City. Attend Custer State Park’s Annual Buffalo Roundup and Arts Festival. Bedazzle the whole family with sparkling calcite crystals in 151-mile long Jewel Cave. Bison, pronghorn, and elk graze the grasslands of Wind Cave National Park. Central South Dakota has the state capitol, Pierre, in addition to numerous lakes along the Missouri River. Go fishing and boating in the rivers and lakes. Take the kids to the South Dakota Discovery Center and Aquarium in Pierre to see the state’s native fish. We enjoyed our stay in Rapid City but this place does not offer maid service unless you stay for 4 nights. After 4 nights, you can request this service. According to their posted signs, this is to protect privacy and adhere to social distancing guidelines. That is great to but patrons should be informed of this policy before making reservations or the room rate should be reduced. Sounds more like they couldn't get enough people to staff the hotel. Please be honest with the public! Their free breakfast was better than average. The location is a good starting off point for sightseeing in South Dakota but not for actually walking to anything in downtown Rapid City

This place is awesome, and we enjoy staying here each year! We love it because unlike other hotels, it's actually tucked away from the busy mainstreet of Keystone. Instead of vehicles backfiring, you'll hear the occasional Steam Engine train whistle from the 1880s Train that goes by a couple times a day. It so very sets the mood. :) The nice lady at the front desk (Laura? I'm sorry I forgot your name!) remembered us from last year - very friendly customer service! Even though it's a bit pricier, you get what you pay for. Also! They have a full bar with a food menu now. I noticed one thing: Their general manager, Kyle, I saw was working at the restaurant part of the grounds during an evening. THAT is the mark of a great manager. Someone who is willing to step in to do the "grunt" work. Also, Jordan is really friendly, and was super helpful when working with me on booking!!! Definitely recommend!

Breakfast had cold and hot choices. The hotel is about 15 mintes from Sioux Falls Park and the location was easy to get to the park as well as restaurants. We would recommend staying here while in Sioux Falls.

We arrived at Midnight on a Friday night after a long day of flying, dying to have a hot shower. Turned on the water...stone cold. We also had no internet....we could get it in the hallway but not in our room. The next morning we left word at the front desk to have maintenance come up and see what they could do. We arrived back at the hotel after dinner and the same thing...no internet and ice-cold water. The weird thing is that the water in the sink was piping hot. My husband called the front desk wanting to switch rooms. They were full that night but were told we could move down to the 2nd floor at 11:00 the next morning. The is wasn't ideal as we were throwing a 90th Birthday party for my other, but went ahead and packed everything up to move. Got to the new room...tepid water only, and once again steaming hot water in the sink. We did however have internet service. We had to clean up the best we could in order to get to the the party on time. We were told again that maintenance would be sent up to fix the water. We arrived home late Sunday night to NO hot water. Monday morning, we called again and were told that a new hat water heater would be installed on Tuesday . My husband wrote an email to the owners and to this date we never did hear from them. We wanted to check out and get to a new hotel but had no time due to family obligations. Tuesday night...same thing, tepid water. (desk girls had told us the plumbers had spent all afternoon putting a new water heater in.) Is this the best Comfort Suites can do? Wednesday AM still very tepid water, and hot sink water. I was so fed up, I spent 20 minutes using an ice bucket to fill hot water from the sink to the tub. Wednesday night, the water seemed slightly better but could not call it warm or comfortable. Thursday was the same. Thankfully, we checked out Friday morning to go home. We have used this hotel for the last 8 years and loved it. No discount was offered to us upon checkout, so you can be assured we will not return to our favorite hotel in the future. The fact that the owners still have not responded tells us all we need to know...they must not care. A visitor expects a clean room, good air conditioning, and hot showers. We did talk to others in the elevator and parking lot and they also had no hot water. It was not just our room. Upsetting that they had us move rooms knowing full well we would not have hot water in the new room either. Customers would much rather know the truth. Had we known we would have checked out that first day.

Just 20 minutes from Rapid City Regional Airport (RAP), the Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Rapid City, SD is a great launchpad for visiting Mount Rushmore and Badlands National Park. Located off I-90, our family-friendly hotel is adjacent to Rushmore Mall and only a couple of miles from downtown attractions like The Journey Museum & Learning Center. In addition to a beautiful location by the Black Hills, our hotel offers inviting amenities like free Wi-Fi, a free, hot breakfast and two hot tubs.
If I was asked for more money when preparing for my trip, it would have been no problem. But waiting until I'm home to send a bill to cover taxes to hotel after I booked and paid for package deal online, was an unwelcome surprise.
