Everything above expectation, extremely friendly staff. All room amenities as expected and even a bit more. Reasonably priced and good location. Two free shuttle buses per hour to down town Shimoda located 10 minutes away. Breakfast buffet nice. Went out to restaurants in the city every night, only 1,000 yen by taxi because the hotel restaurant menu was a bit limited, however been told that the reason was because of the off season and very few guest in the hotel. Both the Onsen and Rotemburo excellent. Will be back.

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in terms of location, hospitality, food, facilities and cleanliness. If I have a chance to go back to Shimoda again, I would definitely stay at this hotel. The staff working for this hotel seemed happy and they were helpful. Very comfortable staying at this hotel.

Shimoda Yamatokan is located on the oceanfront of beautiful TATADO beach. Make yourself at home while enjoying sumptuous meals and relaxing in the hot springs. Each room is set in traditional Japanese style, with tatami mats and futons. Further, each room has a private balcony for magnificent ocean views and relaxation. Savor the seasonal local delicacies!
Amazing experience at this Ryokan in front of the beach. I stayed in room 211 with a private bath in the balcony. The view from the room was amazing and very beautiful. The shower was great also, located next to the balcony. The hotel has 2 different public baths. One of them is located in the terrace where you can observe the beautiful stars at night while relaxing in the bath. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. There is a ping pong table near the front office where you can play for free. The dinner and breakfast were very delicious and very abundant. I will definitely stay here again if I go to Shimoda.

Shimoda Central League hotel nestling to a village crowd of Izu affecting Shimoda-shi, Shizuoka Mount Amagi system is a hot-spring hotel boasting the self source to boast of-rich quantity of water of the Minamiizu best to.
We recently stayed at the Shimoda Central Hotel, 1st it is NOT in the city of Shimoda per se, rather it is located about 20 miles to the west in a rural setting. We had a room booked through JTB. The room was quite large, the hotel itself is on the new side, the Grand Bath was quite nice, the view from our 2nd floor room was of a farmer's field and the mountain beyond. Dinner was part of the package and was quite good, some local fish and the usual assortment of Japanese foods. Dinner is served in 3 seatings in the hotel's mail restaurant. Not outstanding, but quite good. Breakfast was adequate but nothing of particular note. Good selection of Japanese breakfast staples and the standard western dishes served in a buffet. Shuttle service is available from the Shimoda Train Station. The day we were there a special bus went over to the Matsuzaki area so guests could see the cherry trees along the river and flowers planted in fallow rice fields. There was no charge for this side trip which took about 2 1/2 hours total it was a very nice "freebie". On the whole, not the best hotel I have ever stayed at but certainly well above average. More elaborate rooms than we were in are available with private outdoor baths and small gardens. The room maid told us that the water for the baths in the rooms was from the same hot spring that fed the Grand Bath. I can an recommend the hotel for a nice and relaxing day or two away from the clatter and clamor or Tokyo. But be aware it is well out into the country so plan on entertaining yourself if that is what you are looking for. The floor we were on is non-smoking with an enclosed smoking space out at the end of the hall for addicts to the evil weed. I noticed a sign for a laundromat in the hotel which is unusual in Japanese hotels, a nice convenience if you need to launder some clothes.

a 2 minute walk from the beach, and across from the road of an impressive shrine, close to convenience stores and next to a bus stop, this inn is well located for all your needs. staff are warm and friendly, beds are comfy (and provide hot blankets in the winter which were a godsend). Breakfast is pretty good, standard Japanese-western fare. my favourite bit was the 2 private onsen you could use, both warm and without a roof, so sitting back and watching the stars at night was absolutely amazing in the cold. definitely would stay here again if I ever went back to Izu.

The hotel is very close to famous Shirahama beach, which is fantastic. You need to be good on foot as you have to go up and down a hill. I was there while almost nobody visited this area coz of the recent emergency state. The staff at the hotel was not very friendly. They didn t serve breakfast, not even coffee, nothing. So i had to go to the convienient store three times a day. I almost had the feeling they were not happy about me being their guest.

They honor the traditional Japanese with japanese rooms, make your own bed for the night, japanese traditional breakfast and so on... They speak excellent english, are very friendly and welcoming... It's located close to the beach (3 minute walk) and close to the main town of Shimoda (15-20 minutes walk along the coast/bay) and the old town...

Location is decent; 10min walk from Rendaiji station and a 45min stroll to Shimoda. Hotel itself is old but rooms were decently maintained, apart from the shower which I wouldn't recommend using. The place itself is big with many winding corridors, most of which are humid and damp. Staff was friendly, and provided us with umbrellas to use when it was raining. We returned after 10pm and they seemed to be fine with that, after which we used the onsen till about 10:30. The place is due for a renovation but for the reasonable price during high season (august), it's a satisfactory place to stay.
