Reviewed By DRSEETStaying for a week at the Grand Mencey is like reliving the grandeur and understated elegance of the Belle Epoque, except that the architecture here captures the essence of the pinnacle of Canarian heritage. Befitting its illustrious history hosting royalty, the creme de la creme of high society and the famous faces of the celebrity circuit, this grand manor of a hotel is obviously finetuned to pampering its guests. It is thereby exemplified by the professionalism and cordiality of its staff, some of whom truly deserve special mention. There were some minor issues with our room which was immediately rectified by the congenial guest relations manager, Juan. The second manager at reception, Luis, is another asset to the hotel, always ready to offer assistance and is the embodiment of courtesy. Three other reception staff also stood out as real gems : Victor and the two Andreas ( both girls are named Andrea and can't be more different, but both as efficient and friendly as Victor). The breakfast buffet at the Grand Mencey has been praised many a time, in terms of its diverse and scrumptious spread (it caters admirably to vegans too) and its high quality items. Especially noteworthy are its provision of sparkling wine at breakfast and its al fresco counter whipping out healthy fruit smoothies. But to me it is the serving staff who again makes the difference. A special shout out to Maria (of the stylish hairdo) for remembering and bringing us our poached eggs every morning. Attentiveness to the quirks and preferences of guests is what ultimately distinguishes a classy hotel from a simply luxurious one. If i have one tiny reservation, it is that the Wifi within the rooms could have worked better. We were given a Wifi booster for our room but this had no internet access either. Apart from that technical glitch, everything else went very smoothly throughout our stay. And we are very likely to return. Hopefully by then, fibre optic transmission has been installed.

Nice and safe neighborhood. Room very clean, comfortable, lots of light and fresh air. Very good restaurant, the waiter was very friendly.

Reviewed By 968chrisb968We have previously stayed at the nearby Mencey hotel so thought we would try this one. Staff were very friendly in all of the hotel and restaurants and well looked after us. Room and hotel were very clean. Food and drink in the hotel was also tasty and well priced. Air-con in room could have been a little bit better but in general was fine. It was a shame the pool area was closed. Very good stay. Will come back again.

Good location but very poor breakfast and service of waiter
Reviewed By missy90210Good location but the breakfast and service of the waiter completely let this hotel down - we paid for breakfast and ordered the English breakfast, the bacon was COLD, the beans was COLD, the sausage was a tinned hot dog sausage which was COLD but the eggs were just warm. The breakfast was served to us so was not sat on a buffet facility where it could get cold. I did tell the waiter but we didn’t even get an apology and he just walked off so was not impressed and this completely let the hotel down.

Awful hotel, nice staff
Reviewed By jul1eoThis hotel is very very basic. The location is good but other than this it is awful. Bed was extremely hard, pillows very thin. I left this hotel without spending the night at all as I could not sleep in the room. Reception staff were friendly. It also needs to be noted that the hotel advertises parking onsite, this is not the case. You have to park in a private car park behind the hotel that has extremely small spaces

Reviewed By RonSherzWonderful little hotel right in the heart of a Santa Cruz serving a lovely buffet breakfast with an unbeatable view of the harbour and mountains in the breakfast room. You are a few footsteps away from everything. Bed and bathroom bigger than most 2 star hotels but bring you own shampoo. Better than a lot of expensive 3 star hotels. One warning, unless you are at Santa Cruz to participate in Carnival, this hotel is only a few metres away from a big stage with pounding music during carnival season
