We arrived late that night with a very little hope to be serve something to eat. What a great surprise to get a good food, warm welcome and on top of it "the Chef" coming over for a little chat !! A stay in the mountains in a family-run bed and breakfast
Reviewed By Kaaren AWe went to Hotel Le Val Du Tech for four things: a restful five nights in fresh, mountain air; the chance to hike; to be close to the hot spring of Preste (less than a block away) and to control our vacation budget. We got more than we planned. At night, we were delighted to have the sound of a stream while we slept; peaceful. The hiking trails are very close to the hotel and include access to springs. We even saw the goat herder and cheese maker bringing his herd back to the farm while we were hiking. The room is commensurate with the price of the hotel; simple and clean with a functional, clean bathroom. Why "excellent" ? 1) extremely charming owner, her family and staff (speaking French and English); 2) (individualized service for all; 3) a micro brewery on site (craft beer); a bar with reasonably priced breakfast, cold plates, and beverages; 4) 15 minutes from a medieval village that has good food and some traditional French shops; a fort, and medieval architecture. A great time!

Reviewed By john hLovely hotel well situated in a historic town. Private parking. Our room had a balcony overlooking the front - sun all day. Room very stylish and comfortable, bathroom equally good. The welcome was friendly and efficient. The restaurant - well we can only say it is WONDERFUL- how the chef can produce such magnificent meals at only 34 euros for three courses is beyond us. Absolutley excellent - could eat here every day. Breakfast - powdedered milk!! Not good at all - the bread / croissants were fresh, coffee and tea OK, cereal provided (but with powdered milk, no thanks)

Great location wonderful place to stay

No restaurant was open in town the night, so it was here's the kitchen, the shop is next door, cook what ever you want. Breakfast was superb and the intimate family atmosphere and warm fire in the evening made for a great stay. Our room was more than large enough and had an outside balcony, not used because it was so cold but in summer would be wonderful with great views of the surrounding mountains. Our hosts were extremely friendly and accommodating.

Full of character, friendly all at a good price
Reviewed By graybThe location is perfect right in the old town - with a sheltered square outside for breakfast. As others have said the family are very friendly and made us welcome. Staying here is like stepping back a few decades so go soon before they modermise it ! Lots of quirky things which are fun not annoying - red lace curtains, dark brown furniture including a narrow wardrobe like I had in my student digs, a bathroom made inside the room, a black (yes I mean black) classic toilet seat, a shower in tray - yes I could go on ! Wanted a room on the front but arriving nearly at 8pm they could only offer a rear room but no problem as we got a view over the south side of the city walls and the valley eastwards. Breakfast was great sitting outside in the square - lovely home made raspberry conserve, extra coffee. By the way allow time to really explore the walled town - its got so many nooks and crannies and views of the valley and mountains. A real treat.

Reviewed By mr_eduardUn finde magnífico. Era un pequeño estudio con todo (cocina, ducha y terraza). Era el de la esquina izquierda. Tenía calefacción pero no hizo falta porque hizo muy bien tiempo. La terraza con vistas al jardín, al fort Lagarde y al Canigó. Era impresionante la tranquilidad de la zona. Importante escoger con vistas al jardín. Se escuchaban pajaritos cantar cada día (pero también un gallo). En la terraza le tocaba el sol por la mañana y por la tarde. Una gozada para ir de relax. Además la amabilidad de los Baxter (Alan y Patricia) fue increíble. Muy buen trato. Son ingleses con lo que no hubo problema de comunicación. Teníamos dudas antes de llegar y nos contestaban enseguida. Nos explicaron todo al llegar. Para repetir. Muy bien sitio para hacer caminatas. Hay un pequeño súper a unos 300m. Es muy bonito y pintoresco el pueblo.

Veníamos en moto y fuimos andando al pueblo (20min andando) para ir a cenar y al volver nos recogió en coche el señor de la casa para no volver de noche. La habitación con vistas a la montaña muy bonita y todo muy limpio. La única pega que tuvimos es que para acceder hay que subir un camino de tierra con muchos baches y nosotros íbamos en moto... yo subí y bajé a pie el camino de 1km, si vais en moto atención, coche sin problema. Desayuno ok con productos típicos y mermeladas caseras.
