What a great holiday we had at the Pestana. We’d mentioned it was our honeymoon and we were given an upgraded room, it was fabulous! A massive king size bed, separate shower, balcony and separate sitting room. We did not expect that at all. The staff were all fantastic, always smiling and helpful. Our maid was a lovely lady who kept our room spotless. We met Francisco, a waiter in the Columbus hotel ( the sister hotel available for Pestana guests to use), he worked so hard and was very friendly and helpful, a lovely German waitress who did not stop smiling and went out of her way for us everyday. Octavius the bar manager in the Columbus hotel was fantastic, although he did ply us with drinks, filling our glasses non stop! He was so nice. The front of house lady with a short blond Bob was absolutely lovely as was the manager, both very helpful and friendly, always stopping and giving us the time of day. The pool area was always spotless and so beautiful! There were plenty of sun beds, we never had trouble finding one. The children that were staying at the resort had plenty to do and there was always evening entertainment. My husband loved all the food on offer ( I’m too fussy) he had a great time and put on half a stone!! We took a 2 mile walk along the beach, glorious golden sands, everyday, it was fantastic! We met some wonderful people, especially Gail and Phil who made our holiday. Everyone was so friendly, the atmosphere was great. A lot of people had returned again and again. On the whole we had a fantastic honeymoon, thank you to all the Pestana and Colombia hotel staff, you were great!!!

O Pestana Ilha Dourada Hotel & Villas is a recently built hotel on the island of Porto Santo, in the Madeira archipelago, just a 5-minute walk from Combro beach and 10 minutes from the golf course. The Island is an authentic paradise with warm and crystalline waters, ideal for a quiet holiday. During your stay, enjoy a fantastic freshwater swimming pool and relax in the SPA. This sophisticated hotel has a restaurant and bar, both with terrace. All rooms are located on the first floor with a fantastic view of the ocean and the Islet of Cal and have free Wi-Fi.
We stayed in a Villa and the premises were excellent, the staff provided outstanding customer service and the location couldn't be better. As a family with a toddler, I can safely say that it was the right choice and we will definitely be back.

Although we were originally booked into the Porto Santo sister hotel, which was very nice, we moved to this hotel for the last 5 days of our holiday. The photo's really don't do it justice. It has a completely different feel to the sister hotel and is slightly more luxurious and quieter. The hotel gardens are beautiful and the smell of lavender and rosemary wafts through the air as the day warms up. There is an enormous library and pool table on the first floor and a huge, bright and airy reception area. The hotel is spotlessly clean and everyone we met were friendly and smiling. The food was delicious and plentiful - a fish lovers paradise. The pools are immaculate and maybe slightly warmer than next door. The highlight for us (apart from the staff!) was the sea view from the room - stunning. The rooms themselves were beautifully decorated, large, modern and to be able to sit in the bath and see the ocean was wonderful. Also to lay in bed at night and hear the waves lapping against the shore with the cicada's in the background was magical. A big shout out to Octavio, Nereda and Anna who made our stay that extra bit more special. All three made valiant attempts to try teach us some Portuguese! They were not only wonderfully friendly and hardworking but truly made us feel very special despite our poor attempts at speaking Portuguese! Thank you! To be honest all of the staff were brilliant and I am sorry if I have forgotten your names, but all are a credit to the hotel. We were incredibly fortunate to enjoy the best of 'both worlds' and we cannot fault either hotel. For service, cleanliness, beautiful setting and excellent value for money, you cannot go wrong. We will be back!

Torre Praia Hotel is a comfortable four star hotel situated in the Vila Baleira city centre right on the marvellous golden sand beach. The ample leisure areas include the “Salinas” restaurant with “a la carte” menu, the pizzeria “Pizza N’Areia”, both overlooking the beach, and the “Sports Bar” with its giant screen. The swimming pool, directly facing the sea, has an excellent terrace with direct access to the sea.
Spent 4 nights on the island and stayed in this hotel. This was more of a 3 star experience, positives included the location, good AC, decent mini bar, rooms have a nice little balcony, and cleanliness of the rooms, negatives was the noise levels in the hotel (every morning the loud sounds of constantly banging doors in the communal areas), poor sound insulation in the room, terrible pillows, no in room service (was told to go to the restaurant to go get my own ice), no pool side service, uncomfortable pool beds (definitely not 4 star level), polite but cold customer service (didn't even ask us how our stay was when we checked out). The breakfast was basic but available until 11 which was a nice benefit, and the beach side bar was decent but the customer service needs a little focus. Overall the interior decoration was basic and rather dated. With some small changes and upgrades to the hotel I think it could be vastly improved.

Lovely wee hotel almost at the west end of the island. Easy access to the beach. Delightful staff. Lovely modern rooms. We had breakfast & dinner as part of our booking - both were of a good standard- dinner was buffet style with a couple of local dishes. We also had lunch on two days and though the menu was limited they were none the less tasty. Overall great value for money

Staff at the hotel were very helpful. The hotel amenities are basic but everything you need is available. The bedroom and bathroom were clean. It is realistically priced. This is not a five star hotel nor is it priced as such. It provides value for money. The buffet breakfast was well organised and typical of Portuguese value hotels with plenty of choice available. Would visit again.

I spent 6 lovely relaxing nights here in May. The hotel itself looks very plain. At first I wasn’t impressed by its appearance but the more time I spent there I loved it’s low level simple and bijoux style. The rooms look like they have recently had a makeover simple clean functional great shower, nice balcony area but I didn’t use this as the hotel has lots of quiet nicer areas to sit and read or chill and take in the Island ambiance. Complimentary toiletries and water. The gardens an pool area and the lounge areas inside and out were really nice, clean and well maintained. There were plenty of sun beds and chairs around the pool. Th outside bar area right on the beach was a nice place to have a beer and watch the world go round. It closed at 6 pm which seemed a bit more early as it didn’t go dark until 8 ish. There was an unappealing space with sand and loungers which needs something bunting flags lighting sail shades anything to make it look better. I’d have liked a lounger on the beach to make the most of the experience. I used the Spa which is a lovely space but I wasn’t that impressed with the overall amenities the pool was a bit cold, and I didn’t dare go in the freezing plunge pool. However the jacuzzi was its saving grace best I’ve been in! I had two treatments a hot stone massage which was just weird and then a scrub and massage with Hugo which was amazing I would definitely recommend him. The food was good there is a Al a Carte and a daily fixed price menu to choose from, I preferred it when the fixed price had meals rather than a themed buffet style. Service in the restaurant was good better when the manager showed his presence . Staff were all friendly and professional. Overall I loved my stay and would highly recommended. I was conflicted that everything seemed so quiet of an evening but that added to my relaxing experience. If you’d like a beach lounger go right up the beach. You can walk right along the beach it look me a leisurely hour to walk all to the end and 30 mins to walk into the town. I found an island tour bus with guide in the town but he didn’t really speak English but tried his best. There are a few bars restaurants within a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Taxi from the airport was €8

Stayed at one of the top floors with the BBQ and terrace. The BBQ came in very handy and being able to cook in the apartment saved us a lot of money. It was very clean apart from some sand on the floor of one of the rooms. It was spacious enough were we to host a small family dinner. Sadly most of the facilities were closed, but we were really there for the beach, which was only a minute by car! Would have given it 5 stars but the sofa-bed was awful as a sofa and even worse as a bed!

I came here when in the off-season and I was, possibly, one of only two/three guests in the entire hotel. The reception staff/manager was really polite and courteous - who came out to meet me within 5 minutes of phoning him (as there were no guests, the door was locked when I arrived, and there was no one at reception), The room I had was one with a balcony and had a sea view (it wasn't the one I was supposed to have - I had booked into a 'mountain view' room, but there was a problem with the electronic key to that room). For the budget, it is a functional room but I thought offered great value for money. The hotel is about 3 minutes away from the beach, has a cafe/restaurant underneath (I think they are separate businesses), though Bar Girosol nearby is worth a visit. The hotel is in a good location if you wanted to walk to Calheta (about 30-40 mins away) or the Golf course, which is close to the Pico Ana Ferreira (probably a 40/50 minute hike from the hotel). The only things I thought were a negative were - the very soft pillows and the grimy balcony furniture (which just needed to be wiped with a damp cloth but, as I mentioned, I was transfererd to this 'sea view' room at the last minute so - and quite possibly - they hadn't time to prepare it in advance). The breakfast buffet was a bit sparse, and lacked quality - but, for the price you pay to stay here, probably reflective of the budget status of the hotel. The room had a TV, but I had no remote control (again, maybe because they weren't expecting me to stay there) - and, also, the wifi signal wasn't the best.
