The town that gave the country (and port wine) its very name, Porto is Portugal’s second-largest metropolis after Lisbon. Sometimes called Oporto, it's an age-old city that has one foot firmly in the industrial present. The old town, centered at Ribeira, was built on the hills overlooking the Douro River, and today is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 14th-century São Francisco church is a main attraction, as are the local port wine cellars, mostly located across the river at Vila Nova de Gaia.

Located in a privileged area of Oporto, and dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries, the Condes de Azevedo Palace offers an elegant and classic oasis, with all the necessary commodities of the 21st-century traveler. Initially built as the home for the "Condes de Azevedo", the Palace owned by Viscount Francisco Lopes de Azevedo Velho da Fonseca de Barbosa Pinheiro Pereira e Sá served various purposes throughout its time. Probably its most iconic role, was when a typography was set up, essential for the "First Portuguese Grammar" in 1536, having translated other essential works of Cervantes and Virgílio. Newly converted to the Condes de Azevedo Palace, it offers 19 5-star apartments spread out through three floors, a common garden patio, private parking, and a very comfortable breakfast lounge to start your day in the best way possible.
The Palace is perfectly situated to all of the tourist attractions. The staff was very friendly and always willing to help. I stayed in a 2 bedroom 3 bathroom unit. It also had a kitchen and living room on the 1st floor. On the 2nd floor, there was another sitting room in front of the other bedroom. On hotels.com, the bedrooms were listed as having queen beds, but each bedroom had a king bed. Continental breakfast was brought to the room every morning at your time of choosing. It's really a full breakfast. I ended up putting alot of it in the fridge and would snack off of it throughout the day. I highly recommend this place!

Fantastic Restored Hotel on the Best Street in Porto. This hotel hits all the buttons. Newly updated with large comfortable rooms, pool, spa, fitness center and great breakfast rooms in the old town house. Great service with a smile and multi lingual staff. The only draw back is no parking

We have just spent a really enjoyable week in the Mercure Porto Centro Aliados. There were 9 of us altogether. Tiago’s happy, smiling team looked after us. From the magnificent breakfast to the warm inviting pool everything was perfect. On one occasion we ate in the restaurant. Although it’s a limited menu it was delicious. The hotel is perfectly place to explode the city of Porto, although some of streets are quite steep. Thoroughly recommended.

Nearby landmarks such as Clerigos Tower (0.3 mi) and Palácio de Cristal (0.6 mi) make The Editory House Porto Hotel a great place to stay when visiting Porto. Otherwise, you may want to check out a Mediterranean restaurant such as Cantina 32, Taberna dos Mercadores, or Ode Porto Wine House. During your visit, be sure to check out popular attractions like Livraria Lello (0.4 mi), Ponte de Dom Luís I (0.2 mi), and Rail Station Sao Bento (0.3 mi), which are all within walking distance of the hotel. Enjoy your stay in Porto!
There is no doubt the Editory House is in a wonderful location in the old town right by the river, but the hotel is really a bed and breakfast as that's all that's available, no bar or restaurant. It's probably Porto but at these prices over 200 euro a night you maybe expect a little more. Our Premium room was spotless and nice at quiet at the rear of the hotel but was very small. No wishing to be too picky but it was lacking in light and also nowhere to hang your damp towels in the bathroom, which was also a little tired with the shower door not shutting. The air con in the room is not very good and having to open the small balcony doors at night resulted in seagulls screeching all night and being bitten to death my mosquitoes . The breakfasts were ok but the best feature of the hotel were the staff who were an absolute delight and helpful all the time, a credit to the hotel.

In one of the most prestigious areas of Porto, the Ribeira historic district you will find the Pestana Vintage Porto, constructed as a group of 18 buildings that have been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Postcards always feature the hotel right in front of the Douro River, which blends in nicely with the other historic buildings in the area. We welcome you with an atmosphere that is at once vintage and contemporary, luxurious and romantic. The RIB BEEF & WINE restaurant is the place for true connoisseurs of great beef and wine. All rooms have Wi-Fi and some feature views of the Douro River, the Wine Cellars of Gaia and the D. Luís Bridge.
We stayed in a "Double Vintage Grand River View with Balcony" room; the room itself was indeed grand; plenty of space, and fantastic views through the three windows overlooking the Douro river, and Praca Ribeira which is filled with lively restaurants. The manager, Bruno, greeted us with a glass of port (with more waiting in the room!). The room itself was well appointed, with a double-bed, shower/bath & AC, and was very quiet (well soundproofed!) despite the nearby restaurants. The hotel-provided breakfast was good, with a decent selection. The location is excellent; right on the riverfront next to numerous bars and restaurants, the Douro river cruise ships, and the water-taxi to the Gaia Port Warehouse district. It's a short uphill walk or funicular ride to Porto's historic downtown, and anywhere in Porto is a short taxi/uber ride away. The only negatives are that parking in the nearby public lot is expensive if you have a car, and there is a short walk from the nearest taxi/uber drop off point, as Placa Riberia is pedestrianized. I'd certainly stay here again on a future trip to Porto.

This new project by Torel Boutiques is housed in one of the most stunning historic palaces in Porto, the Palacete Campos Navarro. The Palace, dating back to 1861, and typical of those of the bourgeoisie at the time, is one of the most impressive and distinguished examples of the romantic architecture period in Porto. A highlight is an exceptionally stunning skylight (“Claraboia”). The concept of Torel Palace Porto is to honor Portuguese writers and poets, among them Eça de Queiroz, Florbela Espanca and, of course, perhaps the best-known Portuguese writer, Fernando Pessoa.
The Torel Palace is a beautiful boutique hotel near to the main shopping street in Porto. The positives:- Helpful and knowledge staff Great bed Free fast wifi Very good breakfast Luxurious room The negatives:- No turn down service Smallest piece of soap I have ever seen No bath and tiny sink with surround Poor maintenance (eg door furniture on the stairs which was there a day later and disengaged carpet rail on stairs) Also beware that the hotel is at the top of one of Porto's hills and the tram up there is not working at the moment so a hike up a steep hill is needed to reach it from the main tourist sights.

The overall experience was amazing. I think it is by far one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. It’s clean, luxurious and all the staff are nice! They were extremely helpful with booking restaurants and took great care of my belongings especially Antonio. The breakfast that came with the room was delicious and the restaurant was reallly good. On top of it all, each room is unique and you learn something about Portugal on each floor and room. I’d 100% stay here again when I come back to Porto.

Underground parking is provided for our guests’ convenience. Rooftop relaxation swimming-pool (70cm depth)
Of the total reviews posted thus far, 202 liked the hotel and 9 had some sort of issue. So, what does that say about this hotel? THEY DO IT THE RIGHT WAY ! I loved my stay at this hotel and there was not one single negative thing I could comment on. The room was super spacious, the bathroom large for Europe and with a beautiful walk-in shower, lots of counter space in the bathroom, lots of closet space in the hall closet, and a super comfortable bed. For those who like to sleep in or are not into the night life, there's a flat screen TV that has 4 American TV channels and 4 English speaking movie channels. The hotel is quite clean and orderly. There is an outdoor patio to enjoy a drink or a meal. Also within minutes walk is a supermarket with fresh food & bakery, including a good selection of wines & spirits. But the best thing about the hotel is the AMAZING STAFF. They were all so terrific and made my stay even more enjoyable. Towards the end of my vacation, I had an accident while in Porto that required being taken to emergency. I arrived at the hotel at 3 a.m. bruised and in pain. The staff were so accommodating and checked in on me. To Management: You have raised the bar for many hotels to learn from -- your employees know HOSPITALITY ! YOU SHINE BRIGHT !

Torel Avantgarde is a five-star boutique hotel in Porto that opened in September 2017, and already won 3 prestigious awards: a World Luxury Hotel Award in 2018, a Prix Villégiature | Awards and a Seven Star Award. Like Avantgarde artists, we wanted to create something completely new. Our vision was to establish a place where art takes centre stage in every way. The result is Torel Avantgarde, a space to live art, to touch art, and to feel the heart and passion of the artist in the various spaces : in the 49 individually designed rooms, at the reception, in the flower room, at the Digby restaurant, at the Calla Wellness & Spa and, of course, in all our rooms. Torel Avantgarde is located in the heart of Porto, in the area of Restauraçao – just beside the Instituto de Vinho Verde and close to important parts of the city: 200m from the Palacio de Cristal, 500m from the Clerigos Tower, 750m to the Rua das Flores, 800m to the Avenida Aliados - and in the heart of the art district of Porto, only 5 minutes from Rua Miguel Bombarda.
Its rated as a five star but it stuggles to get there. Service varied dependent on who you engaged. Sometimes it was just wonderful while others you felt as if you were a burden to them..may be inconvenience is a better term. Bar drinks are ridiiculously expensive. No amenties got replaced for three days other than towels. Water temp fluctuated from mildly warm to scalding. View is really great of the river area. Shower didn't drain well. Trendy, creative art themes make the hotel unique.. Mixed bag unfortunately.
