# Spotted Grunter Resort is situated on the banks of the mighty Umzumvubu river in the heart of the Transkei's wild coast. Our air-conditioned units make for a comfortable stay all year round. Units are fully contained for self catering. Braai facilities as well as a fully equipped restaurant and bar are on site. Large lawns with fantastic views of mountains. Relax on our deck overlooking the river or at our sparkling swimming pool.
Overall a great place to stay. Food is really good, kudos to the chef. We stayed in the rooms next to the road (and petrol station), very noisy and disruptive. Next time we will opt for a room closer to the river. Stunning views and friendly staff. I would definitely recommend staying with The Spotted Grunter Resort.

Amapondo is Ama-azing. Amapondo is nestled on a hill on the verge of a tropical rain forest and only 2 minutes walk from a beautiful beach. Head down to sunbathe or plunge in the clear warm waters of the deep rock pools nearby. The rooms and deluxe private self-catering cottages all have their own unique design and style. The quirkily designed cottages have incredible views, are really comfortable and come at a price that you'll find hard to match. Seaview 3 bedroom cottage is one of the best views on the Wild Coast from its upstairs bubble bath, whilst Crystal House, with its glass frontage, offers classic panoramic ocean views. Whether you want a quiet, relaxing break in your own piece of paradise, a base from which you can explore the natural beauty of the area, an adventure on one of their many tours, close interactions with locals, genuine cultural experiences, yoga lessons, a deep tissue massage, or a thumping all-out party at their buzzy bar, you'll find it at Amapondo.
I love spending my december holidays jumping from one backpackers to the next and Amapondo was incredible! The people, surroundings and experience! Firstly the food is the best food in port st. johns, don’t even bother looking for another place to eat. It is incredibly tasty and the menu changes slightly which is something I personally love. We were staying in a glamping tent for two nights and moved to Seaview cottage for another two nights. Glamping was comfortable with a double bed inside and table and chairs outside. It also has a plugpoint. The Seaview cottage was beautiful but interior could be upgraded in some places. Crockery could also do with an upgrade. I also feel like it could be cleaned a little better ie webs and dust, but nothing major. The owners and other people who stayed there were lovely and so welcoming. I’ll definitely be back for another stay.

We were a group of women that went to PSJ for a hike which unfortunately was cancelled due to the bad weather. We found the hotel quite amazing from where we had stayed 2 previous nights. The food was excellent, the views, grounds and rooms were immaculate and the staff and owners were very friendly and extremely helpful. We had had car trouble en route to PSJ and the owner went above and beyond to help us where he could - the establishment was one of the businesses hit by the floods - the bar and resturant were under water after our first nights stay - but Mr Moodley was ever so accomodating in organizing us food and transport eventhough they were suffering a major disaster. Thank you Mr and Mrs Moodley for the kindness and compassion that you showed to us stranded ladies we shall forever be grateful.

Was the most ideal place in Port St Johns to stay for the Sardine Run. Everyone was so welcoming and made sure it was the best 9 days for a getaway. The lodge offered stunning views of the river, delicious food and the rooms had everything you could need. Definitely recommend if you are planning on visiting Port St Johns!

The Lodge on the Beach, is a guest house situated right on the beach and probably the closest you will get anywhere along the Wild Coast. There are three rooms at The Lodge on the Beach, all of which are sea facing overlooking the length of Second Beach, a rustic community consisting of three accommodation establishments, two quirky restaurants and a local shebeen. All rooms, the large shaded veranda and the braai area have magnificent views of the ocean, lagoon and forest with 'The Gap and Blowhole' in the background and Bulolo River and Lagoon at your doorstep. Each room has a small sundeck and private bathroom which is not en-suite. The Lodge on the Beach has a relaxed atmosphere and is most suitable for couples and small families who wish to be a stone's throw away from the ocean and lagoon. It is also a good place to start the 'Port St Johns to Coffee Bay Hike' from, as we are right at the beginning of this hike. The Lodge on the Beach is a bed and breakfast, and dinners can be provided on request. Local fishermen often provide seafood such as crayfish/lobster, fish, mussels and oysters which we prepare for guests. There is also a self-catering option where guests make use of the communal kitchen and braai area. There are also two restaurants namely the 'Delicious Monster' and 'Wood`n Spoon' which are within 50 meters of The Lodge on the Beach. Once at The Lodge on the Beach there are many things to do without driving anywhere which include relaxing on the beach or in the lagoon, fishing, walking through Silaka Nature Reserve to Third Beach, walk to 'The Gap and Blowhole', hiking to Bulolo Waterfall, and paddling up the Bulolo River.
The Lodge on the Beach is located on the banks of a river with beautiful views of the river and ocean, with friendly hosts. The premises and accommodation however are in desperate need of restoration and some attention to detail. We enjoyed the friendly dogs that would check in for a quick hello.

The nature reserve is just next door for breathtaking hikes as well as our magnificent boat rides to watch the sardine run in action. (july to september)our town is an eclectic african experience which is uniquely spent exploring the alleyways, with everything to buy from a traditional meal at the supermarket to your fortune told by sangomas! Its all happening here.
Road is signpostet from a certain point of the main road. There was nobody on side when I arrived but a cat and a dog, both having their nap on the tables of the attached restaurant. I phoned to the owner and she said she would send somebody. After ten minutes a young lady appeared on the road to the guesthouse, said hallo and ask me if I could help her wirh ten or twenta Rand. I ask if she was belonging to the establishement, she shook her head. After five minutes another young lady turned up and checked me in. She was very friendly and helpful, but her odour was nasty (sorry, but I can´t help myself !) The lousy road towards the house, the town itself which makes a run-down impression…that is not untypical for the rural Eastern Cape. But what I booked was a room with bathroom and seaview. Room was under the roof , accessible by a very steep stairway (more a ladder). Bathroom – including toilett- was ground floor, equipped with just a bathtub and no shower. Everything in the bathroom looked shabby and not realy clean. The look of the room itself was not towards the sea as described in my booking confirmation, but into the green. Flynets in front of the windows would make more sense than mosquito nets over the beds, even if they look more romantic. The whole establishment consists of three rooms. All party have to share the kitchen with one relativly small fridge/freezer. Cuttlery/Crockery is fine so far. Fridge and stove are also shabby and old. When some people are busy in the kitchen down my apartment, I could hear every word. Not that they were loud or reckless. It is just a fact that walls practically are not exististing. Security guard is on side, friendly and looking trustworthy. Not an unimportant issue; because the area around looks quite neglected and, francly spoken, a bit suspicous. The attached restaurant is average, fish & chips maybe slightly more than this. They waitress was the friendly lady who checked me in, still smelling unpleasently. Not nice if somebody hands you your plate of food. Music from the neigborhood was annoying at night (stopped after one in the morning). The near beach is sandy with pittoresque rocks, more or less clean, but mind the broken bottles which may lay here and there. Nobody but a single sign on the road warned about shark danger. As I found out later Second Beach in Port John´s has the reputation of being one of the most dangerous beaches in the world: Bull Sharks are common seen here, and they are killing men, Life guards are on side (one was killed by a shark some years ago), but I have my doubts what they can do when a shark is behind you. In a nutshell: The whole spot has more the atmosphere of a backpackers – and should better be advertised in that way.

The place is very beautiful and the rooms are fine but I don't wish to come back ever again I would not recommend it to anyone even my worst enemy. I would rather sleep in a shack than to be treated unfairly by Cremorne's staff and management. The Food was very horrible. The manager who was an old woman kept on shouting at visitors. The staff would make noise with a hoover in the dinning area while you are trying to enjoy your unpleasant food. They take a decade to prepare food .The wi-fi that does not work. The Tv is another story. most of the things on the menu are not available. Disrespectful cats every where. OVER PRICED FOOD. Cremorne is very beautiful I would advice people to self cater.

Umzimvubu Retreat Guest House is situated on densely forested dunes overlooking the Umzimvubu River Mouth and Indian Ocean on First Beach. We guarantee unmistakable South African hospitality … whether for a holiday, business trip or just passing by, we pledge satisfaction, value for money and fond memories. Experience the incredible scenic beauty of the Wild Coast.
The decoration of the room is a bit oldish, but the room is big and comfortable. The highlight of my stay was the relaxing breakfast I had on my stoep with full view on the bay... Wifi is only available in the reception area.

What an absolute gem after the Gauteng cold! Dip your toes (whole body) in the warm Indian Ocean after a long and cold journey and you could quite easily think you are in paradise. A warm welcome awaits you on arrival and you are introduced to the very comfortable rooms. Typical of the coastal lifestyle is a verandah to every room. Surrounded by the coastal flora you can soak up the sound of the ocean. Food is next door. WiFi is free. The owner is a very interesting man with a wealth of knowledge of the area. Truly, I am going back there for this unique experience
