Pousada Tankamana is a haven of serenity, privacy and romance located only a few kilometers from Rio de Janeiro, and 20 minutes from Itaipava. Here, our guests enjoy the experience of staying in an atmosphere of extreme natural beauty, to the sound of nature, with a stunning view of the sky and the woods while enjoying a highly refined level of service.
The Tankamana is a five star hotel (in my opinion). Imagine yourself in a place inside the forest, in an absolute tranquility, with a rustic ambiance and architecture, and at the same time a place when you enjoy a refined restaurant with an elegant wine list, and a comfortable spacious room with all kinds of pampering things. So, if you are looking for a very romantic place, you find it. I had stayed there in a room that had a king size bed, an ofurô or a jacuzzi baths (I went there three times in different accommodations), an very beautiful bathroom, and a large balcony with a delightful viewpoint of the forest. The hotel common places are incredible. A heated pool surrounded by a green hill. In an other unimaginable place you will see a sauna with a direct connection with a cold natural water of a little lake. A last thing: the breakfast serving works until that last guest goes there. You really can wake up the time you want. In summary amazing in all aspects.

I may be based in UK but lived in Brasil for 4 years, spent a couple years travelling about the country. This time here to see family (wife is from Rio) so we both know what to expect from hotels. Missus and I were with her parents and they wanted to show me this part of Brasil, of which I've not been. Amazing drive from Rio to here once out in the interior with lush forests which certainly amp up the atmosphere. On checking in, it was frankly silly. We were the only 4 in the queue and it took a ludicrous 45 mins reception thought it was just my wife and I (we did the booking on hotels.com). There was a lot of too-ing and fro-ing between staff and hotels.com to ascertain there was indeed 2 rooms booked - we even had the app showing them it's TWO rooms booked. After a stupid wait and filling in paperwork we got to our room (elevator didn't work so had to take the stairs with our suitcases). Room spacious with AC but there are no tea/coffee making facilities, no drinking water so make sure to take that yourself. TV didn't work not that we were bothered otherwise would've moaned to front desk. It's open internet so use a VPN if doing anything like banking or confidential - good consistent speeds so we could watch some Netflix on our tablet.. Grounds are also very nice, if not a little on the fake side, wonder what fellow Europeans think! Shower was a saving grace with amazing pressure and as hot (or cold) as you want....very good. Bed was incredibly comfy and we slept like babies (saved me giving 1 star). We were all very much looking forward to dinner at the taberna after reading all the reviews. Whether there's another taberna that we don't know about because if not, then I've no words on our dinner experience. Being a Friday night, we thought it'd be packed, especially since there was a wedding going on at the same time. Staff were not only moody but incredibly slow for a dining hall which was only a quarter full, they all just seemed to stand about and natter amongst themselves. We literally had to wave at them to get any form of attention. Missus and I opted for bife de ancho for two. In-laws ordered churrasco de Barao (pieces of beef, sausage and chicken) for 2. After a 30 min wait, food arrived. we could tell our med-rare beef was over....infact, it was soooo tough and over it was more leather than what was a living animal. We could also tell the quality of the meat was very poor. Asked the waiter we would want a replacement and please be sure it's med-rare. I mean, comon, whether you're at home or a chef in a busy resto, it's not difficult to grill a steak. Replacement comes. Not only had it not rested with the pool of blood on the plate but it was BLUE, like proper raw. We then said for it to be cooked so it's MED-RARE. He barked back at us declaring that's med-rare. We didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He took it away and 10 mins later gave it back but it was still on the rare side. We put up with it. By this time, in-laws had eaten their dinner and working on the sides. Our beef was simply awful quality - it comes as 3 separate steaks. We each only had about half a steak each as it was frankly, inedible. I've never come across a place which serves meat so badly. My in-laws also didn't eat all theirs either. Then we asked for bill and they took some plates away...waited 15 mins and nothing then another waiter collected some more plates and again we ask for the bill. Waited and waited and waited with a whole load of sides and empty glasses and 30 mins later another waiter came with unwanted beer to finally click we were finished and wanted the bill. Finally after about an hour just waiting for the bill were we set loose, hangry! Breakfast buffet was just ok....coffee awful (it was filter coffee but tasted like it had been around for a bit). The coffee machine wasn't working but since hardly anything seems to actually work in this hotel, we weren't surprised. I had what I think was scrambled eggs and again, inedible. How difficult is it to make eggs or steak? Anyway, left hungry once again but thankfully we were off to Petropolis and enjoyed a much better experience at the consequent hotels. Hence for the time wasted at arrival, the awful dinner (and breakie) I'm being generous and giving 2 stars and we'll never return. Shame!

Kind of in the middle of nowhere but the rooms are beautiful. Service is good. Breakfast was served at what time we wanted it. Only an hour back to Rio from here. Kind of surprised there are not more tourists here. Room is large with comfy King size bed, bigs screen tv,and our bathroom had a jacuzzi tub which we enjoyed. Nice grounds outside with a pool.

Pousada located in great remote location surrounded by Atlantic forest at 1000m altitude with stunning views over the hills of the National parks. We got an upgraded room with jacuzzi in the main building. Stuff is friendly and attentive, they speak English and will help you with your questions. Serra dos Orgaos National park is just 12km/20min driving from the pousada. Some people write comments that place is outdated but we noticed that staff work hard on the maintenance and cleaning so it’s sufficiently cared pousada although water in pools was somewhat not enough transparent so we didn’t give it a try :) Would rate as 5 but 1 star is taken away by somehow disappointing restaurant - very limited and a bit expensive menu vs. quality provided. Chief cook was not flexible and we were not allowed to replace side dishes (e.g. to serve potatoes instead of rice etc.) - definitely area to improve. Breakfast is complete and tasty (although juices were diluted). All in all good and comfortable stay. I would recommend this place to enjoy the nature and relax after busy Rio.

In the heart of Itaipava, mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro, the INN ARCADIA fits the concept of "urban inn", uniting all comfort, charm and refinement of a typical guest house in the countryside with the amenities and facilities found in urban centers .
Pretty good hotel in a well located position. We spend just a weekend but it fits perfectly our needs. It has an excellent breakfast, parking and the staff is very polite and careful. We got a family room (2 adt + 2 chd) that worked fine.

It is not like 10years ago because it was more intimisting but now they improve with more rooms and accept children. Still a bit expensive but the place pays off. If you are looking for relaxing and eat very well and have good service, that’s the place.

Me and my boyfriend spent just one night at the Inn Hotel Petropolis but it was sufficient to appreciate the beauty of the city and the astonishing view from the spacious rooftop. The room is of standard dimension, nevertheless it's comfortable for two people; the breakfast is very good and it offers a wide selection of food; personnel is super polite and they are at the disposal of the client at any time. Very Nice Inn!

The Atelier is really beautiful. Cozy, like a farm (for most who like this kind of environment). Stayed at the attachment standard room (called master) with a nice space, bathroom, a balcony and park space. Don't try this one cuz the wifi connection doesn't work. If you are traveling on business it will be a thing. And the breakfast it's awful: not much of a diversity of things like breads, fruits or something else. If you like eggs you need find someone to make it. Imagine bacon.

I have stayed here on many occasions in the last few years and I must say I love the Hotel. I find the rooms to be very comfortable with ample hot water and good shower. The food in the new Bistro restaurant is sublime and probably rates a the best food i have eaten in Petropolis. Again, breakfast is superb with all fresh food daily. There is nothing not to like. Thanks again and see you soon.
