August 6, 2022 Alice Mieles

When it comes to outdoor activities, the Peak District National Park is the whole package. Located in the north of England, the park offers everything from horse riding to rock climbing, windsurfing to paragliding, plus walking trails galore. One trail, Derwent Valley Heritage Way, allows you to take in the area’s open landscape while also showcasing its industrial roots. Discovering hidden underground formations at such spots as Titan Cave (the highest natural cavern in the U.K.) is another popular pastime. Best of all, there are camp- and RV sites throughout so guests can settle into these surroundings.

Gem in the heart of Bakewell

Last minute visit, what a delight… excellent food, yes a little expensive but worth every penny. The staff were very open and friendly and the building itself was fantastic with a very eclectic decor… we aren’t ourselves but if you are into gin or cocktails the barman clearly new his subject. Definitely visiting next time we head north… and I think a room booking will be required.

Absolutely faultless - we had a perfect wedding at the Maynard

Reviewed By P7466ECtb

We booked our wedding at relatively short-notice (7 months before) and knew that it would be the 7th wedding in a row for the Maynard team, so we didn't know what to expect. But on the day everything was absolutely faultless and we had an absolutely amazing time. On our wedding day (Sunday 5th June) Soraya our wedding co-ordinator greeted us the minute we walked in the door and the whole team had already ensured that all our guests were well-supplied with their reception drinks. I don't think I saw a single non-smiling face all afternoon and evening! Our speeches and meal were arranged seamlessly, with everyone being served very quickly and plates cleared away efficiently without feeling rushed. The DJ was really accommodating with our plentiful and admittedly unusual song requests, and managed to play all of them without a moment of empty dance-floor. When my new husband and I retired to our honeymoon suite (which is absolutely massive, with fantastic long-reaching views), the Maynard staff had already spirited our full card-box, cake topper and a generous supply of cake into the room, so it didn't feel like there was anything left for us to do but relax. We stayed for an extra night after our wedding day, so we got chance to sample a great selection of the amazing food on offer. Every meal was incredibly tasty with very generous portions, from the Eggs Florentine at breakfast to Polenta Cake in the evening. Overall, we couldn't have wished for a better wedding and can't thank the whole Maynard team enough for looking after us so well!

The bar is well stocked and has the atmosphere of being in a country pub.

The hotel has good wifi, but no mobile signal. The recently added 22kW EV charger was easy to use and needed after a long day touring round the dales.

Good Choice

Reviewed By flymeaway2

Booked directly through the hotel for one night. We were given the Howden Room with a king bed that was comfortable. The room is large, with a beautiful bathroom with tub and shower. The A/C worked well – almost too well as we had to turn it off! It kept cooling the room. This is a small hotel with an elevator which is appreciated with suitcases. The breakfast is cooked items such as eggs benedict and full English. The eggs benedict were excellent!! The only negative was that for a boutique hotel this well managed I was surprised at the quality of bedding. The sheets on our bed were worn and thread bare.

A BEAUTIFUL LOCATION IN BAKEWELL

Reviewed By 641denise

This boutique hotel is run by the very charming and extremely helpful and efficient Martin who could not do enough for us. It is a good idea to incorporate a mini kitchen arrangement in the room in order to organise one’s own breakfast. A sizeable airy room with original window shutters. Quiet and very peaceful. Our only suggestion to the hotel would be that much better lighting needed in bathroom, larger bath towels and a warning re rug in bedroom which could easily be a safety hazard as it rucks up.
