For business reasons, I’ve been coming to Overath for the last 12 years at this time of the year. On previous visits, I’ve stayed at the Hotel Kellerman (don’t, unless you want to revisit the 1970s) and the Bergischer Hof, which was fine until the new owner decided to play fast and loose with customer service. I’m only sorry I wasn’t aware of the Lüdenbach. It’s ample clean rooms are a joy, the bathroom is spotlessly clean and the newly installed thick windows will ensure a peaceful night’s sleep despite being close to the main road in and out of Overath. However, it is the staff that make a place and the service is nothing but exquisite. Friendly yet professional, attentive yet unobtrusive. The breakfast is superb - plenty of cold meats, cheeses, eggs, cereals, all kinds of bread, juices, fresh fruit and if you’re the kind of person who likes herring for breakfast, then there is that too! The full car park in the evening is testament to the fine restaurant attached. I ate a couple of times, and can also recommend it. Finally, the cherry on the cake is the possibility of relaxing in a decent sized sauna, complete with its own loungers, seating area with large fresh, clearly new, towels. If you are staying in or near Overath the Lüdenbach deserves your attention.

What a great place to stay. Out in the country with cows on the grassy hills and not far from some great restaurants. It is a small hotel with maybe 8 rooms per floor on 3 floors. The rooms and bathrooms are a bit small, but normal for Europe travel. There is a restaurant that offers free breakfast and good dinners that are sure to leave you very full for a reasonable price. The owners are the nicest people and very accommodating. There are limited shops within walking distance. A gas station that has a convenience store, a Pizza/Indian restaurant, and a small pub. There are two bakeries and a bank as well as a meat market all within a 10 minute walk. There are some nice small hikes that you can take as well. There are several nice restaurants that are a bit longer walk away or better for a short drive. The beds are a bit small for people over 6 feet tall and the internet can be a bit slow, but is generally fine for casual internet and email.

We stayed only one night in this hotel. Good rooms. Not too big but certainly not too small either. Good bathroom with hot shower. Lot of towels. Bed good, not too hard. No airco, was a very warm night so it was really warm in the room. Slept with open Window and then you hear the cars passing at the road in front of the hotel. Good terrace in front of the hotel for outside dining. Also you can park your car right in front of the hotel. So its everything good. No bad things.

You may also see this spelling on some websites: Altenbrucker Muhle. Two couples reserved two units here for two nights in May 2008. A guest already there refused to leave so one couple had to stay at another hotel for the first night. One couple had a very large room that was large enough to qualify as a studio apartment. The bathroom was large also. The other couple (after the first night) had a three-room apartment! There seemed to be permanent residents living in some units. The hotel has a restaurant and bar that is very active some nights. The was a special barbeque one night on a terrace outside one of our units. The noise went on into the wee hours of the morning. We slept OK by shutting some of the windows. A nice breakfast was included. We had trouble with the TV but we didn't care much about that. I don't know if any apartments have air conditioning. The hotel is about 20 kilometers from Cologne. We stayed here because we had trouble finding reasonable rooms in Cologne. We ended up paying 130 Euros per unit per night. This was more than we expected because the owner added VAT to our bill. This was a misunderstanding on my part when I booked the rooms through Booking.com. If I had to do it again, I would get a confirmed rate from the owner via email. All other hotels we used included VAT in the quoted rate. The hotel was comfortable and the breakfast was good but I thought it was a bit overpriced. By the way, there is an excellent restaurant nearby: HOTEL SUELZTALER HOF. Expect to pay 60 to 70 Euros per peson, including wine. I did not check into their hotel rooms but the quality of the restaurant would indicate higher quality rooms.

Brauhaus Bergischer Hof Hotel Brauhaus Overath
Stayed here whilst visiting friends in Overath. On the whole the hotel was clean and the beds were comfortable. The decor was dated however it was not too bad. We were provided with continental breakfast at a time of our choice which included a range of cold foods along with cereals and coffee. Fresh eggs were also made upon request. Only problem we found with the hotel was the unpleasant smell of smoke still lingering in the hotel as smoking is not banned from public places. If you can't stand the smell of stale smoke I would not recommend this hotel.

The staff is friendly. The room was very quite because it was not facing the street but really unconfortable. The light came very early in the morning because there is no curtain, the shower is almost impossible to use. It is also quite dirty.
