Beaux paysages.

Unique luxury place in the heart of Laos. Mountain scenery, numerous activities and local Khmu villages close to the resort, nicely designed and cozy houses with a river view, two water pools, great restaurant with its own farm, careful staff.
This is a place as relaxing as it is splendid where everyone (adults and children) can have fun or relax comfortably in the middle of the wild forest. Thanks to its gigantic area and the various activities, we were able to discover another facet of Laos. The resort and the rooms have been nicely designed, the breakfast buffet was generous. Thanks to the staff and guides who were really helpful and friendly, and a special thanks to the GM who took care of everything as needed throughout our stay.

Sitting by the bank of the Mekong, Pakbeng Lodge is halfway between the World Heritage Town of Luang Prabang, and Huay Xai, the main border crossing between northern Thailand and northern Laos, both towns reachable within a day by cruise.Attached to each of the Lodge's 20 Superior Rooms, 8 Deluxe Rooms, and 2 Suites, is a large terrace overlooking the river. The Lodge is an ideal point of departure for walks in the forest of an hour or a day, towards villages off the tourist roads. (Please see our section on Excursions.) It faces the Mekong Elephant Camp, which is dedicated to the protection of elephants in Laos. There, a wonderful opportunity exists to discover the life of an animal that contributes a strong element to the traditional culture, by participating in a walk or with their morning bath. The Pakbeng Lodge suggests you stay a few days in this protected area far from the beaten tracks. You will appreciate the comfortable atmosphere, the picturesque sunrise and sunset over the Mekong, and the comings and goings of the different boats that dock near the Lodge's beach. Your visit will consist of utmost relaxation but also of unusual encounters- an immersion into traditional Lao life.
We arrived early at the hotel and were pleased that a room was ready. To our delight we were upgraded to a suite. The room was large and the bed extremely comfortable. We walked down the hill to a nearby guesthouse and had some lunch. We made use of the swimming pool in the afternoon. It was a good job a member of staff showed us how to get to the pool as it was not easy to know how to access it from the rooms at the top of the hotel. There was a cooling breeze around the pool. Drinks were available from the swimming pool bar. Supper in the evening was ok. We got up early for breakfast at 6.30 when it was still dark. Breakfast was disappointing. On offer was some cold pancakes, toast and some fruit Allin all the rooms were better than the food

At Muang La Lodge we offer impeccable 5 star luxury and unique experiences, while being surrounded by the beautiful remoteness of Northern Laos and its vast diversity of ethnic groups.
We arrived at the hotel at 12.30 so didn't expect our room to be ready, however it was. The hotel is small and stylish with real attention to detail. It has only 10 rooms. Our room was close to the river overlooking the hot springs where the local people come to bathe and do their washing. There was a balcony to watch the river. Inside the room was large and decorated in dark colours. there was an enormous bath and powerful shower. The bed was large with comfortable pillows. There was no fridge in the room but if you ordered a drink at the bar it was brought to your room for no extra charge To access the swimming pool on an island in the middle of the river you walk over a rope bridge which swings as you walk to the beautiful pool. The pool is an infinity pool with dark tiles so it blends in with the surrounding scenery. Beds at the pool were comfortable and iced water was brought round. People tended to eat early in the hotel. There was a set menu but the hotel substituted anything you didn't like. Bottles of wine were available. In the morning breakfast was a la carte and there was a wide range of choices. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend the hotel

This charming resort provides 45 nicely appointed villas and suites with private terraces and Jacuzzi, which are furnished using
I rarely write reviews of places that I have visited, but this hotel is an exception to my general rule. Also, to clarify, my wife and I stayed at Le Grand Pakbeng in January 2020, not January 2022. We took a Naji of the Mekong slow boat from Houi Xai to Luang Prabang with a stopover in Pakbeng, choosing to stay at Le Grand Pakbeng. We were transported from the dock by bus to the hotel perched on a hill outside of town. The room was a beautifully appointed bungalow, minus a TV, overlooking the Mekong. Most boats arrive fairly late in the afternoon, and so there was only an hour or so to enjoy the infinity pool and a beer as the sun began to set. The sunset views of the Mekong from the pool were just stunning, and not to be missed. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Dinner was quite good, although a bit pricey (as can be the case in Laos). Although it as been two full years since we took the Mekong cruise and stayed in Pakbeng, I remember our one night stay there as a trip highlight. We only wish that we had known about this town and hotel prior to arrival. We would have made plans to stay 2-3 days, catching another boat down to Luang Prabang. We only wish that the owner of Le Grand Pakbeng and his staff have managed to struggle through these years of Covid. We would happily return.

Since 1999, our custom built luxury river boats have travelled on the Mekong in Laos between Luang Prabang and Huay Xai. We are renowned for offering a unique cultural journey and an opportunity to understand more about life and nature along the legendary river. As part of our 2 days cruise, you will spend the night at Luang Say Lodge, and experience the fiery and romantic sunset from your luxury teak and rosewood bungalow along the river.
We bought a cruise with 6 people for Luangsay cruise downstream from 13-14 Apr 20, due the COVID travel restrictions we tried to communicate with them in orders to have the refund of the money and since then no answer!

Turned up here without a booking after a long day on a 2 days river cruise from Luang Prabang to Huay Xai. We asked at reception how much it was for a family of 4 and were quoted 170,000 Kip which was a bit more than we had wanted to spend (and a little more than others on the street) but when they advised it would include breakfast we agreed. They advised we would need two rooms, we confirmed the price was 170,000 for the 4 of us and they said yes. I tried to pay at the time, but they declined. We enjoyed a meal on the deck (ginger chicken great, curry chicken not so much, kids shared with us - we are on a tight budget!). Also enjoyed breakfast, which before eating, confirmed was included, again they said yes. As everyone was leaving for the morning ferry, went to pay and to my horror they wanted to charge 170,000 per room AND additional for our food. A RIP OFF given we had no hot water, air con was faulty and the list could go on... We reminded them of our agreement and they all denied it, saying there was no way they could offer a room that cheap. We were basically forced to pay. They would not let us leave without paying the full amount. As it was our last day in Laos we were scrambling for the cash... and paid the last of our well-budgeted money (meaning no food for kids or us, and having to pay for buses to the border later on with credit cards). The manager was an arrogant simply mean, not even willing to engage in a conversation, even though his team agreed that we had been quoted the lesser price, we were held to ransom and felt like we were completely robbed. Such a sad way to finish off what had been a pleasant two weeks in Laos.

We stayed for one night during a two-day cruise on the Mekong. The guesthouse is well positioned, just five minutes' walk up the road from the quay and close to restaurants, shops and bars. Our room was small and quite basic but clean with an adequate shower. There was a bit of a view of the Mekong across rooftops, from the balcony outside. The Wifi was good but there was no safe in the room. The staff were friendly and provided a nice breakfast of bread from their own bakery, tasty fruit and nicely cooked eggs (available from 6.30am - handy if you have an early boat to catch). This is a convenient place for a Mekong cruise stop over.

This is a good little hotel where you can happily spend a night if you go on the Long boat trip along the Mekong from Thailand to Luang Prabang. It has a lovely wooden balcony where you can sup a beer in the evening, and in the morning you can watch elephants coming down to the water on the other side of the river. Facilities are basic but clean.

This is a nice, good-value place to spend the night in Pak Beng, especially if you are on a 2-day cruise on the Mekong. It is further up the mountain in town, so remember that you will have to hike your heavy bags up there. The bright green facade make it easy to find, and if you've reached the local market, you've gone too far. Our hosts were very happy, but reserved people, generally keeping to themselves, but business seemed quiet during our stay - I think we might've been the only two people staying that night! In fact, the chef woke up in the morning to make us breakfast - which was really good - and then promptly went back to sleep! As for the rooms, we were up on the second floor, with nice view of the town below us. It was clean, bright, though a little echoey, but the bed was comfortable, and we had WiFi and flat-screen TV with plenty of channels, though we understood none of them. The washroom was curious, with the toilet being set on a raised pedestal, though it might be to keep it out of the water from the shower, as both ar in the same space, which is typical in SEA hotels. The shower did drain VERY slowly, and the hot water was lukewarm at best, but the air was humid outside, so I did not miss it. What I enjoyed the most about Phonemany was the location. Right next door to the market, and a good 7 minutes walk from the boat launch, the town here felt a little more authentic. We weren't surrounded by restaurants, but small shops and homes. In the morning, when eating breakfast, we witnessed the monks come down from the 2 wats in town, gathering alms from the families across the road. It was unexpected, serene and beautiful to witness.
