Stayed here for the second time, my last time being around 2018. The hosts are super friendly, the place itself is right in the middle of the Magome Nakasendo trail. They have a few parking spaces behind the house and overall, it feels like a great option. Just be mindful, this is a 150 + years old minshuku, so it´s not state of the art.

Cozy and comfortable Japanese guesthouse in Magome. Guesthouse is a Japanese wooden house facing Magome street. You can see beautiful views of Magome-jyuku from our dining.Magome is famous for old town atmosphere, each season has its feature here.
Great guesthouse with comfy traditional rooms (tatami mats and futons) and excellent modern facilities (shared shower rooms, kitchen and communal lounge area). The location is perfect in the centre of picturesque Magome. We really enjoyed walking around the village in the quiet mornings and evenings. We also enjoyed the walk over the hill to Tsumago on the old postal road. It was really easy to get to the guesthouse from Nakatsugawa Station on the regular bus. The breakfast was really good and the hosts were very friendly and helpful. Thanks for a great stay!

This hotel was disgusting. The reception lady was pretty dry, room was really cold and shower not so good. The only good thing was the location. I totally regretted staying here and not going to Magome.

We very much enjoyed this hotel. Traditional rooms with tatami and futons, very friendly staff. They don’t speak much English and our Japanese is non existent, but we communicated easily with google translate! There are private family Onsen on site as well as public baths for men and women. We only used the family ones and they were lovely, especially after a long walk! The hotel provided complimentary shuttle bus to and from Nakatsugawa station and also to Magome for the start of our walk. Food was excellent, which is good because the hotel is quite remote and there are no other options for eating. The breakfast is traditional Japanese. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is that the decor is in need of a little updating, but it was clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend.

I highly recommend staying at Motomiya. Our spacious room had comfortable beds and effective, easy to use climate control. Keiko, the owner and host, offered us plenty of advice for hiking around the area. Check out her son's coffee shop in Magome, HillBilly Coffee! Keiko and her husband were also very helpful in figuring out transport to and from the train station (and driving us to the bus station each time). The highlight of our stay was Keiko's cooking. Every meal was incredible. So many flavorful, diverse Japanese dishes for dinner, and a hearty, more international style breakfast. The quality of the food exceeded that at most of the restaurants we visited during two weeks in Japan.

We stayed in the Japanese style room with low beds with a half board. The room was spacious and clean. They have a bunch of travel sized toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush & paste, face wash, body wash & cloth, makeup remover, hair brush) available for free as well as Yukata. The Onsen was nice and big. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious too. Lots of local ingredients. Reasonably priced for the traditional Ryokan-style meals (meals are not served in the room). Very convenient to Magome. 5 mins walk to the bus station (Nakagiri), and from there it’s only 10 mins bus ride to Magome. Also very close to the highway bus station at Kamisaka PA. There’s no convenient store in the walkable distance, so you may feel a little isolated if you don’t have a car, but just enjoy the Onsen and the sound of the river. The hotel offers free shuttle to/from Nakatsugawa, and there’s a bunch of shops, restaurants and supermarkets there. Just remember that businesses close rather early in the country side. There are enough signs and translation in English, but the staff didn’t seem to speak English much.
