Best place we have stayed in Mottaret so far...

Reviewed By Richard H

We stayed in pierre & vacances Le Tueda previously and this time opted for a larger premium accommodation at Les Crets for our family of four. This flat had three bedrooms and two bathrooms and was pretty spacious for this style accommodation. We stayed in room D124 which although on ground floor was close to boot room which stepped straight on to a short path to the piste, and also had easy access to the ground floor drop off for luggage & arrivals. You can ski-in out of this place via red run Aigle which during our stay was usually in poor condition by the end of the day (its one of the major arterial runs connecting couchevel-meribel and has heavy traffic). Access can be gained to the accommodation by a dedicated lift but this was out of order on a least 3 separate occasions during our visit this time ( and also previously) . It's not a major problem unless you have little ones or others that can't ski reds and need to carry ski gear back up the road if the lift is out of order. We found the reception staff to be very friendly & professional and very tolerant of out pathetic attempts at French speaking. Some aspects of the rooms were a bit tired ( door knobs all need tightening for starters!) and a DVD player would have been handy for evenings when we didn't eat out. I didn't like the way P&V dealt with us following our booking during the covid closure (2020) and i was reluctant to re-book with P&V as a result. However, this time we had a great family holiday & I would stay at les crets again.

ABSOLUTE DUMP! AVOID!

Reviewed By Catterpillow

Right, where to start? The dirt and smell of this building is what greats you when you arrive! It’s a stinking mouldy hole that is the only way I can describe it I’m afraid. It’s location is it’s ONLY redeeming feature! Some important points to note below: Reception is open at hours that suit them and not their guests. Have an issue on a Wednesday, tough, no reception on a Wednesday. You will need to sort your own rubbish by bringing it down the street. Only one loo roll provided - you’ve to buy your own. You’ll have to clean ALL the plates and glasses yourself on arrival as they were filthy. Bed is a pull down job that creeks terribly and takes up all the space in the TINY apartment, see pics. Apartment was mouldy as hell and smelled as such - as mould is detrimental to your health I’d urge the management to maybe actually do something about this. See pics. Ski lockers are ground floor - the lockers are not heated and the room smells like a teenage soccer changing room, it’s gag inducing honestly. As they are not heated your wet gear/boots etc is your problem. There is a safe in the room but you’ve to pay for it first to use it! How cheeky and greedy!!!! Sauna on site - STINKS and you’ve to pay to use. Bed clothes wouldn’t be fit for a charity shop - basic duvets no actual sheets or anything, see pic. Honestly I can’t think about it too much but they were not clean. We were 2 guests - if you are 4 people in this space then best of luck to you all and I hope it doesn’t impact your relationship as you will be in a tiny room, 2 of you will sleep not in the pull down creeky bed but in tiny bunks opposite the toilet (no way not to disturb people during the night if you need to go. Sound proofing - you can hear people brushing their teeth amongst other things and about 7am you will be up due to noise, it’s unavoidable. Good point is the location but that is it! I couldn’t possibly recommend - so much this place could do to improve but looks from the reviews over the years that they could not care less! I’m sure they will reply with a generic response full of waffle and crap but listen to me when I tell you this place is the WORST I’ve stayed in. Never again.

Fabulous - thank you so much Cyrielle and team...

Reviewed By woganmog

I first spotted this hotel just before the pandemic and have been waiting to come here for two years! We had been thinking to make a change of location from Val D'Isere to Three Valleys, and I liked the fact that it was at a good altitude, as well as ski-in-ski-out. We spent two weeks here and were treated like royalty by Cyrielle and her team. Special mentions to people who helped us every day: including Azeline on reception (amazing sense of humour - and found out where our lost luggage was after BA didn't put our ski bag on the plane), Christophe (who lent my husband his ski jacket after it turned out he'd forgotten it) and Almyre (who was very swift with the drinks in the evening). We chose a south-facing room, which is absolutely worth the extra money. We were able to sit on the balcony after our lessons and watch people flying down the slopes, and the view from bed every morning was absolutely breath-taking. The room also had a massive bathroom including bath - I'm not a bath person but after skiing, a soak is absolutely what you need. The only thing I would improve in the room, is coffee making facilities - I really like to have my first coffee of the day in bed, but it's not possible without ordering formal room service each day, which we didn't want to do. In terms of food, we chose B&B - this is because I don't tend to eat a lot in the evening (I like my main meal at lunch) so we ate around and about, as we wished. If you want great Asian, then Uncle Tsu's just round the corner, does amazing sushi and other dishes. The creperie two doors along is also brilliant. Pizzas also good (but not great) at the pizzeria. If you want to eat in Meribel, then it's pretty easy to take the bus down to town and back - we were lazy and didn't do it that often, but we'll be back next year and will venture further. The breakfast buffet is really well stocked and they are very open about letting you make your own sandwiches to take onto the slopes - this is a great idea because people always try to sneak them out anyway, so having the clingfilm there and encouraging people to stock up, is a really nice idea. In the evening we ventured up to the bar at the Hotel Mottaret - it's a different kind of bar, mostly with brits, but makes a change from the traditional french style. The hotel bar does a really good charcuterie platter which we also had on a couple of nights. We had planned to also try the Savoyarde restaurant, but didn't get around to it this time. In terms of skiing - you cannot beat this location. The ski room has boot warmers (which we didn't have when we previously rented an apartment) and there's no dragging up the mountain when you're tired. I love the fact you can just hop on the Truite slope immediately outside the hotel, and get down to Meribel in 15 mins or so (I'm not a fast skier)! Finally the hotel also has a spa - TBH I hadn't even realised it did until I got there. I had two excellent massages and also used the hot tub, so that was an added bonus. Overall we loved the location of this hotel and the service from the team. I am not a hotel lover, but this one is just like a home from home. We had intended to find an apartment in Mottaret to stay in for 2023, but we love the hotel so much, that we're just going to rebook for another visit next year. Thank you Cyrielle and team - you made our post-pandemic ski trip amazing :).

Great location for Skiing - Warm and comfortable hotel

Reviewed By Steve P

My family had a great two day ski-break here. It's a ski-in, ski-out hotel with bar and restaurant, swimming pool and comfortable lounge. Their room was comfortable and had a great view and balcony overlooking the piste. Nothing was too much trouble for reception and service was prompt. I arranged for the their ski-passes to be delivered to reception before their arrival. The efficient Camille responded quickly to my emails and confirmed arrival of the passes. I booked ski equipment direct from the excellent Slide Candy team who deliver the kit to your hotel boot room and fit it by appointment - no waiting in line at a ski shop and they collect from the hotel at the end of your hire! As a result my family were on the piste immediately after breakfast the day after their arrival and had two full days skiing. Food in the restaurant was good quality. The only thing I didn't do was book a covered parking space with the hotel but there were open spaces on the road outside. This is a great hotel for a short break or full week's family holiday.

Lovely hotel in the heart of Meribel

Reviewed By 50Susannah70

We had a beautiful week in Meribel, staying at Hotel La Chaudanne. We had a suite - 603 - which worked brilliantly for two adults and two teens - two bathrooms and space for relaxing outside the two bedrooms. The hotel was lovely, clean, spa area good. Food in restaurant very good (although not cheap) - they went out of the way to make someting simpler for my teens. Substantial breakfast. Very close to lifts. My only ask would be that they have the music in the restaurant turned down as it does somewhat take over. But to be fair, we didn't ask at the time. But an excellent hotel and would highly recommend.

Le Kaila exceeded every expectation. A nervous American who wondered how we would be treated in such a nice hotel, given we love a casual experience, I fell in love with every part of this hotel. Amazing front desk, a breakfast made from dreams, Francois in the ski shot, who personally put on our boots everyday ( yes he actually put on our boots and buckled them up, and at the end of day dried and cleaned boots!), skis placed on the slopes outside the hotel daily, beautiful rooms and lobby, unbelievable huge pool with many areas with jets to sooth you after a day on slopes. This was truly one of the best hotels we have stayed and can not provide a stronger recco for anyone going to Meribel. Location is superb, close to amazing shops and restaurants, cheese shops, and wonderful bars for apre ski!

The staff is extremely helpful and makes all efforts so that your stay is smooth and enjoyable. Walking to Meribel center takes 7 to 10 minutes going down and some more time to go back up as the road gets pretty steep. In summary a great option for a ski vacation !
