Our well-stocked bar & restaurant serves refreshing cocktails and delicious homemade comfort food at a great price. We have direct access to the water with a nice sandy beach, free kayaks, floating dock and some water toys as well. Come here to play volleyball, table tennis or to try the only 'petanque' (boules) area in the south of Nicaragua. We offer awesome patio views, landscaped gardens, a wonderful shady ranch with sun chairs, hammocks and a bar right on the water's edge.
We only spent a few hours there last week, as part of our tour, and wished we had more time! The property itself and its grounds is like a mini oasis! There are so many activities to choose from, and the staff there is awesome! We got to eat at the restaurant located on the beach by the lagoon, and couldn't have asked for better service! The team of servers and bartenders there are just phenomenal, starting with our personal server Walter! Gabriel, Diego, Ulice, Alyaro, and Jaiso were all so cool! The lagoon views are splendid, even though the beach itself isn't that great. The water was very warm, and the optional activities were all great! I definitely would go back there again on my next trip to Nicaragua, as the staff there is truly phenomenal! Mucho Gracias!!

Pacaya Lodge & Spa is a luxury resort for travelers who expect a unique experience and memorable service. Each of our twenty-six rooms offers a stunning view over the jungle canopy to the crater lake below, with Granada and Lake Nicaragua visible on the horizon. Our lodge and casitas feature furniture, art and decor created by local artisans, blending an authentic Nicaraguan feel with the lodge’s warm, contemporary design. Located about halfway between the cities of Granada and Masaya, Pacaya Lodge and Spa is in the heart of Nicaragua’s picturesque pueblos blancos, villages known for their quality, authentic art and handicrafts. Pacaya is a perfect hopping-off point to explore neighboring market villages, to hike nearby volcanoes, to spend the day at the beach, or enjoy an evening in Granada. Come unwind in the hammock on your private balcony. Float in the infinity pool overlooking the crater lake. Indulge in a signature spa treatment or wander the trails through the reserve to the calls of howler monkeys and exotic birds. Enjoy open-air fine dining with ingredients sourced from local purveyors and our own organic garden. Trek down to the lake to sunbathe, swim and paddle in the clear, thermal waters of Laguna de Apoyo. Come enjoy a boutique experience surrounded by nature and the handiwork of local artists and artisans. We look forward to welcoming you.
A turn off of the main highway (along with my adventurous best friend) into what feels like a rural pueblo, inclining up towards the blue sky. After about 10 minutes we turn onto a very narrow driveway which lands at the rustic yet luxurious Pacaya Lodge & Spa. Immediately I felt genuine care! Judy (was so very helpful (even before our arrival), Jonathan (my guy!), Chef Francisco (Guapote fish!), Rene (our friendly faithful Driver… Happy Birthday #62!), Raul (great service), Lisette (you are living sunshine) and the entire Team. I am absolutely grateful for my time in Nicaragua. This is the true definition of the “road less traveled”.

San Simian is a charming Eco Lodge in the Laguna de Apoyo Dry Forest Preserve. Nestled along the water's edge, this secluded resort has private unique lodging tucked into the slope of the crater and steps from the swimming dock, hammocks and bar where guests pass the time. Guests can stay in a unique palm-roofed cottage with open air shower, private garden or terrace, eat at our full service restaurant and relax at our outdoor bar. As San Simian is equipped with a Catamaran, several Kayaks, and other water toys, activity revolves at the lake front and in the clear warm water itself, however, bird and monkey watching in the surrounding forest are also popular, and we are also located at the entrance to a great hike path that leads up the hill to the Pueblas Blancas artisan villages and the stunning Mirador at Catarina. Please Call Ahead if you would like us to arrange a massage, pedicure, Spanish lesson, guided hike, Granada or Masaya tour.
Back in the Laguna in March, I stayed again at San Simian and was able to check-out their recently constructed cabina - Limon. Limon sits up the hill near the road and restaurant. The modern design and bright color set is apart from the other cabinas. Additionally, it is a two-story structure with a balcony overlooking the Laguna. Limon actually consists of two separate bedrooms and two baths, interconnecting to a common indoor spiral stairway, that ascends to a spacious, open sitting area with dining table and chairs, a couple of bench seats and lounger chairs. There is a widescreen TV, internet, a wet bar w/ mini refrigerator. It is open all the way around, and with large ceiling fans that provide good ventilation. It is a nice comfortable spot to hangout and relax. The space has good lighting for reading, playing games, meetings, or whatever. One bedroom features a queen bed and the other (2) bunk beds. There is seating in the room and dressers/racks for storage. The rooms have excellent lighting. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan, air conditioning and own indoor bathroom. The bathrooms have a spacious hot water shower, large vanity with storage and sink, and good lighting. Limon is ideal for a group or family, with space to be together, but also privacy when needed. I also took note of recent renovations to Coco and Papaya, both reconfigured, and with Coco gaining a sitting area and an outdoor bathroom. Bathhouses down by the beach bar have been expanded and the bar has been renovated. The landscape continues to evolve with new plants being added. I stayed for several days on the front and end of my trip. The food and service were excellent as usual. The staff is friendly and responsive. San Simian is a very tranquil property away from some of the properties catering to the younger crowd and day trippers. In my opinion, one of their biggest assets.

Read all the other reviews: Don’t go here until they improve their policies, prices, services and method of business. There is clearly a negative pattern. Stay in a nearby guest house or AirBnB, and day-use only, if you must. The price of a boring tiny breakfast is ridiculous, although it does come with day-use if you want it. What angered me is that they charged $1.50 for coffee and $5.50 (!!) for juice. The menu clearly says “Todos los desayaunos van acompanados de café, te o refresco.” (Breakfast includes drinks). See photo. I asked the waiter, he said that is for guests only (wrong). So I asked the cashier, and she said drinks are included. I clarified that we did not order an “upgrade.” The debate went on, they didn’t offer my money back, she gave me a free bottle of water. The point is not the price -- it is the principle. On principle, the management needs to review all these negative complaints and address them with better staff training, disclosure, and policies. Note, we have also stayed in the hotel previously with lackluster results. This was my third and final visit. Unfortunately, the customer is always wrong here.

Imagine yourself relaxing in a tropical pool overlooking a peaceful lagoon or meditating in a breezy hammock on your own private veranda. Explore the natural environment of our exclusive -adults only- boutique hotel and enjoy Ecotourism in luxury!
We went over New Year weekend and had a perfect time. Stayed in Casa Linda, which has the best view, I think. Service was excellent. The food was a read surprise -- more variety than I thought they might have, given the remote location, but fantastically prepared! Not a place for adventure, but perfect for relaxing and unwinding. One word of caution, use the map provided on the website to get there. Both Google and Waze have an "optimistic" view of the various routes you can take to get to the resort.

Our one night stay was courtesy of our credit card rewards but I’d pay to stay again for sure. We were very impressed with the welcoming & friendly employees along with the beautiful and cozy accommodations. Although the pool was inviting - we didn’t have time to take a dip. Breakfast was offered at an extremely reasonable price but we normally just roll into lunch so we passed on the opportunity. We would most certainly stay here again and highly recommend the hotel!

Hotel Selvazul advertises that they offer SCUBA diving as one of their activities. It’s prominently featured on their website. I messaged them Sunday to say I’d like to schedule a dive and day trip for this week. They said no reservations were needed for day activities. I reiterated that the dive was our top priority and we’d be driving a long way. I included a screenshot of their dive info from their website, and said we were PADI certified and wanted to book a single tank dive for two. I asked if dives took place everyday. They said yes and that no scheduling was necessary. We drove over two hours to be told by the dismissive person working the desk that they don’t currently have an instructor or working equipment. He shrugged when I showed him the text stream. He told us to go to another hotel (which, it turns out, doesn’t even claim to offer diving). When I asked if he’d call them for us, he refused and told us we’d just have to go talk to them. He offered nothing - not help looking for an alternative, not a cup of coffee while we regrouped, or a free day pass (about $4) - to make the situation better.
