Truly outstanding

We stayed here as a party of five for two nights for a nearby family wedding. Sarah, the owner, could genuinely not have been helpful and accommodating throughout our stay. The accommodation is a really wonderful manor farm house with modern conveniences and spotlessly clean throughout, and Sarah's breakfasts were amazing. How she managed to cope with the variety of requests was incredible to say the very least. This really is an exceptional authentic bed and breakfast, and I have no hesitation in highly recommending it.

Lunchtime specials and vegan options

Reviewed By GarysTribe

We visited the pub side of the hotel and had lunch. Lunch was presented with 2 different menus, 2 mains for 20 or another offering 2 or 3 course for 10 or 12 quid. Great bargain for the menu. We had boquorones (whitebait), fish and chips and a no bull burger. All for 20 quid. Of course the portion sizes were smaller except for the vegan chocolate cake but what do you expect for the price. On the good side the chef and server know good food and it was good hence a 4*. Fully recommended for a quick lunch. #garysyribe #localguides #foodblogger #travelblogger #letsguide #vegan #marlborough

The Merlin

The Merlin is situated in the middle of Marlborough's famous High Street, reputed to be the widest in England, in one of the most attractive and historic buildings in Marlborough. With ten stylish rooms, all at reasonable rates, the Merlin is the ideal place to stay to savour the atmosphere of the bustling market town of Marlborough and its renowned shops and restaurants. Everywhere in Marlborough can be accessed on foot from the Merlin and many world-famous heritage sites such as Avebury and Silbury Hill are just a short drive away. The Merlin has been a family-run establishment for over 30 years and is not only highly convenient for touring all the local sites in and around Marlborough or just enjoying the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Marlborough, but the Merlin is also steeped in history itself. The historic Georgian building boasts a listed 17th Century staircase which is believed to be the oldest in Marlborough. And the Merlin appropriately takes its name from a local legend - the belief that the sorcerer Merlin, adviser to King Arthur, is buried at a site known as Merlin's Mound in Marlborough. The Merlin was recently awarded an impressive Four Star rating by Visit Britain, formerly the English Tourist Board.

Stayed at the Merlin a couple of times now and really pleased with it. Bang in the middle of town on the main high street so all the shops and pubs etc are minutes away. Will definitely use the Merlin again whenever I need to stop over in the area with work. Thanks Nick ?

The Castle & Ball Hotel

Extensively refurbished early 2012 and situated on Britain’s widest high street, The Castle & Ball has had a fascinating past dating back to the 15th century, with some of the original oak timbers pre-dating the Spanish Armada. The building’s age accounts for some individual features including the splitlevel brasserie-style restaurant. The hotel’s walled Beer Garden at the rear provides a relaxing setting for those looking to enjoy a drink and a meal alfresco-style.

Great quirky hotel

Stayed here for 2 nights with breakfast ,what a great old building in perfect location. Check in was quick & stress free with a friendly welcome. Our room was large with lots of character with a small window looking out to rear of car park. Bed was comfortable, pillows too soft for me but that is personal choice. We did have an evening meal on first night which was reasonable. Breakfast had a good selection & good cooked options, the lady serving was very friendly & professional. This hotel is great for exploring the local area. Would recommend this hotel to friends & family. All staff were very professional & friendly

Very Enjoyable!

Reviewed By J4cq1

Very old, quaint coaching inn. Does what it says on the tin! Pleasant, clean accommodation (we stayed in main building). Beds suuuuper comfy & rooms snug & warm. Beds made every day & tea & coffee etc replenished. Landlord & landlady & staff very friendly. Lovely full English Breakfast + toast & marmalade, orange juice & tea/coffee was great. Pub incredibly busy & can be bit noisy at night, but hey..people enjoying themselves! Parking a bit random on street where you can fit in. Didn’t eat evening/lunch here, so can’t comment. Lots of nearby local eateries (everywhere really busy, so you did need to book). Avebury nearby is awesome. Well worth seeing.
