Reviewed By emarienycThis hotel has such a unique vibe--a newsletter with dinner that bids farewell to families and gives weather reports and tidbits on the wildlife, guided hikes every day, breakfast and dinner included, and our room had a waterfall view from our balcony! You can walk from the hotel to the Daba Gorge entrance to the national park and a GORGEOUS walk through the gorge and up to an alpine lake (about 5 miles). The food was delicious (salad bar plus a soup course, appetizer and main--different options every night) and a wonderful buffet breakfast. We also saw several solo travelers--the organized hikes provided for free by the hotel every day make it easy to travel here on your own.

Reviewed By Katharina KA very warm heating welcome. The rooms are big enough but a bit to warm so the air is very dry. Rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. Breakfast room is huge and everybody can find something. Dinner wqs delicious and our waiter Victor was very nice. Kids club was a hit for the kids amd also the kids pool. Outside area is spacious and you have a lovely view. It is a quiet spot qnd you can enjoy the silence and the mountains.

Reviewed By traceybY9069SNWe stopped at this gorgeous place on our way from Salzburg to Innsbruck and we are so glad we did. We were the only ones staying there. Our host Steffi was lovely and friendly. The room was big and had a great balcony to sit and enjoy the view. Heated floors in the bathroom and a gorgeous bath with views of the snow capped mountains. As it was not ski season, the tiny town was so quiet, and it felt like a real Austrian little town. We were able to eat at a pub down the road where no one spoke English. Breakfast was amazing. We loved chatting to Steffi. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend Chalet Maria.

Reviewed By domenico330Alpina is a clean place with a good location close to the central lift. Owner was very helpful, even to such extent we would appreciate more privacy during our breakfast. However the rooms are nice and clean, partially reconstructed and the family keeps it in a desirable condition. Breakfasts are excelent, serving great coffee and top local products.

Reviewed By Dilip BWe had a wonderful time at this place. They have only 5 apartments that are decently furnished (nothing spectacular, but all very clean and comfortable). Very close to the ski lifts. Hosts are very nice. Did a free round of laundry for us when they realized how mch traveling we were doing.

Nice family hotel, attentive personel, very good food (more of a 4 star one, then 3)

They speak in quite a few languages: German, English, Italian, and some of the maids Hungarian or Romanian :) Been there with family and asking for full pension. Breakfeast and dinner are abundent, just the lunch is a bit weird. I'll explain: - breakfeast: the same "lineup" every mornig (as in case of every hotel), but with lots of staff to choose from - dinner: each night a different nations's cousine is on plate, again with great abudance and with great variety every evening - lunch: this one is interesting: only one and a kind of a soup at noon, and again around 16:00 PM some cookies to quiet your hunger. They also have family rooms, which are spacious, and fun for the kids: the rooms have two levels, within the room. Usually kids love the second floor, of course. Though they are some discomforting items in the bathroom. 1. there is no sinker in the middle of the room, so if you spill anything out (and you will because there is only a curtain at the shower), what you spilled out stays there till you clean it up. 2. The automatic ventilators that ought to get the smell and the steam out, they are a but noisy. And they tend to continue quite a lot, after you killed the lights. And that's a bit anoying during the night, when you go out to take a piss (you will wake up everybody in the room, sooner or later).

Reviewed By EricPLBLucknerhaus is the perfect combination of quality and warmth. It is a charming guesthouse with a very good restaurant and friendly staff. The views on the Grossglockner are fantastic. Lucknerhaus is too far from Kals to walk to the village on foot. Yet for those seeking a nice place to relax during the winter or summer, Lucknerhaus is the place to be.

Amazing view and amazing food
Reviewed By Worb-TravelerThis restaurant has an amazing view on the Großglockner, but even more amazing is the quality of the food. There are surprising dishes on the menu, all prepared with fresh local ingredients. On top of that the owner has his own small brewery, very tasty and only for sale in the restaurant. Probably the best restaurant in the Kals area. Nice to see that also the locals find there way to have a nice diner in this restaurant. This restaurant is definitely worth a detour if you are in the area.

A Lovely Place!
Reviewed By HikersOfTheWorldIt is not necessary to pay 4- star prices to have perfect accommodations. Our hosts were gracious, our room spacious and the balcony view spectacular. A new breakfast room and guest lounge were beautiful. Nice touch was the small in-room refrigerator and access to inexpensive beer and wine from a shared honor refrigerator. This property has all one needs for a perfect visit and will leave you with 100€ each day to spend more days in Austria! Undiscovered by Americans, but a fantastic hiking area.
