Very good small hotel and convenient to visit the museum cluster on the island. Not at either port but serviced by the island public bus (see hotel website for where to get off). Recommend taking an electric bike or regular bike (note - only 1 gear and island is a little hilly) to get around town, or walk/bus combo. Breakfast at hotel Italian restaurant more than adequate. Town has only 3 restaurants that I came across: hotel Italian (closed Thursdays and Fridays), okonomiyaki place and ramen place. Staff is friendly & helpful. Small lounge serves beer and snacks.

This was my first time to go to Naoshima and stayed at this hotel. We tried to stay at Deluxe Twin Room with Terrace and Sea View. Although this room is expensive, it meet its amazing facility. Its view's really great for me. Fresh air and pleasant scene. We went there during spring season so it's cool to ride with electric bicycle. Staffs can talk English very well. You can keep your luggage there if you arrive to Naoshima earlier than your check-in time. At night time, you can hear sound from the upstairs but it has better sound-proof so less noise. The window near the bath tub has clear glass and no curtains to cover. If you are uncomfortable, you can ask the staff to provide some to cover the windows. Please make sure to ask them during the daytime. The breakfast is good but no choice.

Hotel
Very close to the Miyanoura port when you arrive. Friendly hostess who speaks English well. Clean, simple, tatami mat style rooms. Shared bathrooms and showers. Slippers (provided) only allowed upstairs! Simple toast breakfast with tea and coffee included.

Strange to see this place getting mostly good reviews because our experience was not great. Sure it’s a great location and being Japanese it’s clean. But that’s all the positives· Our “apartment” had two single mattresses and two single beds crammed into one room. Yes, it sleeps four technically but it’s not relaxed to be so crowded together. The mattresses on the floor were very thin, so I felt like I was trying to sleep on concrete! The duvets were short and made even shorter by the weird sheets fitted around them so my feet were sticking out. All of that amounted to two bad nights’ sleep. The host, who smelled strongly of alclogol when we arrived, seemed confused about how to operate the heating — after a few false starts he eventually showed us how to turn on the heating but not how to turn it off. Later he misinformed us about the ferry timetable (while maintaining there was no need to phone and check). As a result we missed the last direct ferry to Teshima, nearly got stranded on Naoshima and actually had to take a much longer route to Teshima via Uno. Finally he was inflexible about breakfast time. We asked for 9 because we were tired after a long journey. We were told that was too early, why not 8? We agreed to have it at 830. It came at 815. Not a big deal but why ask if there is no real choice?

Tsutsujiso is an unique accommodation with Mongolian tents (yurts), caravans, and Japanese style rooms. We are the closest accommodation to the sea in Naoshima. Only Japanese rooms have bathrooms/toilets inside, but we promise you will feel something special being close to nature. Looking forward to seeing you!
Don’t get fooled by the pictures on the site. This place is going down the steady slope of time. It’s old, rundown and terribly overpriced. Only good thing is the beach. The rest is a scam. The owner is also owner of rhe place next door so I guess he is focussing on that one and the yurts are there until he has the money to build something else (but this is pure speculation from mu part)

If you find yourself in Naoshima, this hoestl can be a good option of an overnight stay. It's just a short walk from the Miyanoura Port and across the Tourist info office. A cycle rental, Cinn.a.mon - a hip resto bar, and 711 are just short walk away. Yayoi Kusama's Red Pumpkin is just literally across by the boulevard where is a good place to bike or run around and watch the locals fish or the boats & ferry come & go.

This would have been amazing if we’d been a bit more prepared. Great kitchen but stock up before you go to prepare a few meals as restaurants can be booked out or not open. The courtesy shuttle bus is great but busy. Also make sure you arrive with cash as cards aren’t accepted.

This was perfectly good place for our too-short stay on this beautiful 'art' island. Just round the corner from the rather-nice-looking Wright Style Hotel (see separate review of their dining space, Regalo) and opposite a great-looking, super-busy eatery where the queue was out the door but for for which we couldn't find an English name. Our room was the middle one of three, very well equipped and with a separate kitchen area and bathroom... and perfectly comfortable beds. Unexceptable but perfect for our needs.
