Pet room
Reviewed By ChrisM118We stayed at the Gladstone with our two small dogs and were assigned a “dog friendly” room. Upon opening the door, the smell was overwhelming: best way to describe it was: a combination of boiled cabbage and Brussels Sprouts. We immediately opened the window, then went to the front desk to get a different room. We got a bottle of industrial grade room spray instead and were told, that because of the dogs, there were no other rooms. We sprayed, left the window and door to the hallway open and it only marginally got better. I understand that I have a choice not to travel with my dogs or stay in hotels with them. But I also pay, like everybody else, for a clean smelling room. If given the choice, I would NOT stay at the Gladstone again. Overall the building is outdated and in desperate need for a remodel. TV reception is bad, the carpet sticky and the beds uncomfortable with hardly any covers. Don’t get me started on the bedspread! Stay anywhere else and spend a little more money for a decent room!

Reviewed By 968rodtThis hotel is exceptionally clean, the room was clean as well. It has friendly staff and is very reasonably priced. It is easily accessible from the interstate. I couldn’t be more more impressed. Thank you for a great stay. I highly recommend this hotel.

Rude Breakfast Staff
Reviewed By 254darcigObviously anyone who has stayed here knows about the extremely rude breakfast lady. My question is why has nothing been done to remedy her attitude? Stayed here 4 nights and by the 2nd morning I decided to get my own breakfast elsewhere. Terrible selection. Unless you’re into a pre made eggo in a ziploc bag. Milk was in gallon jugs that sat in a mini fridge with no lids on them all day. I had chosen to make a cup of oatmeal with milk instead of water. The rude breakfast staff lady approached me and said, “there’s no microwaves down here, that’s why the hot water is right there”. She grudgingly took my oatmeal and heated it up for me. I’d have used the microwave in my room if she hadn’t insisted on taking it from my hand. Next day, I’m filling a small water bottle with the water they have in the breakfast area. She then told me there’s a fountain down the hall. Breakfast warmers had signs that made it sound like you might be getting a decent sandwich. In reality, you open the lid to find pre heated wrapped jimmy dean (gas station) sandwiches. The room wasn’t very clean at all. Looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed. The pool deck was atrocious. There was food, bandaids, even an earring along with other garbage all over it. I didn’t feel comfortable barefoot. The water fountain in the pool area was covered in rust/mold. The slides weren’t turned on and myself along with 4 other families and children waited over an hour for the front desk attendant to turn them on. Before any of this, they had messed up the dates my group was staying. I had arrived to check in, waited about 25 minutes to get to my room. Unpack, get settled in, and then the room phone rings. It was the front desk saying they needed that room for the weekend (it was Monday, my checkout was Friday) and I needed to move downstairs to a different room. This hotel is great as far as a pool area is concerned for kids (with water shoes on), but all in all, I’d rather stay across the street at the Hampton.

Reviewed By nancyb890Staff was very nice here. Manager Matthew Woods extremely accomodating to my needs. Was disapointed when I found out that hotel was not pet-friendly. I did not have a pet but my friends who I was meeting there did. I was told by Matthew that this was a mistake on the google search sites. He did accomodate my request to let my friends come in just for a short stay. The sleep quality was okay but the walls are very thin. Everytime my neighbors opened and closed their door the wall shook behind the headboard. Did not appreciate that at all as they were up until 11 pm and were checking out by 6 am. The overall cleanliness of my room was marginal. Their were fingerprints and dust on the mirror, microwave and TV. The bathroom floor also contained hair and other particles. They need to address these items immediately with their housekeeping staff. I did like the very convenient area right off of the freeway and may food, gas and retail areas very close. Complimentary breakfast was excellent. Loved the cinnamon rolls and the cheese omlettes! Thank you again to GM Matthew Woods for his great customer service.

Last-minute find
Reviewed By Leigh RClean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and kind even though I arrived very late at night. Mattress is cozy and soft and seems to be made of memory foam, with nice warm blankets. There is breakfast even though I usually only have tea, and I felt safe here (I’m lucky I found this place, once you drive past Valley City on I-94 there aren’t many other places to stop).

Reviewed By 201TinkerbellAlthough the lady at the front desk was friendly, the mess behind the desk should have been my first clue. They need to invest in filing cabinets instead of having stacks of Minilla envelopes with dates on . The heat did not work. The entire place needs to be redone.
