Pousada Tropicalia is my secret get-a-way from the bustling city of Salvador Bahia. After my business is done in Salvador I take the 45 min ferry ride to the peace and calm of Itaparica Island. This beachfront pousada has clean rooms, great beds, good food and the perfect ambiance for me to catch up on my rest. I love waking up in the morning and taking a nice jog on the secluded beach during our (USA) summer months of July and August. Fred, the owner, is the perfect host and bar tender during “happy hours”. I stumbled onto this delightful pousada (7) sevens years ago and I’ve stayed here a couple of days every year since.

Rooms are located in a garden, one of them has a nice sea view, all of them have air condicioned, fan, fridge, cable TV and WI-FI internet. The restaurant is on the sea front with a nice view on "baia de todos os Santos" and Salvador. We are at 100 meters from the boat to Salvador.
We took a boat from salvador do bahia to Itaparica. Then on the right side. In front of the beach, you can find the restaurant à casa do Vizinho. View on the sea, friendly welcome from Louis, the owner and from the waiter. The food was delicious such as the coffee. The decoration is beautiful and 2 rooms are there too. Good to know if you want to stay far away from the noisy salvador ! !!

Bungalows situed inside a tropical garden of 3000meters square at 100 meters from the beach.Where little monkeys and birds leave free;fauna and flaowers waranty.
Cute bungalow with a hammock, fridge, table chairs and fan. Set in lush tropical gardens with birds butterflies, turtles and monkeys. A short walk from the beach. We ate every night in the pousada (Just give notice in the morning) for convenience and for the enjoyment of chatting to Philippe and his wife. There's not much to do on the island apart from relax. Take a boat trip to Ilha do Amor. The beach and waters are really clean. You can get a bus from the ferry terminal to the pousada for R$5.

The hotel has an ecological and rustic proposal, each one a story. The hotel is located on the sand and on the beach in the middle of the room, with crab, crab, aratus and guaiamuns, not to mention wild birds, squirrels, marmosets and many other animals.
My partner and I had stayed at this Hotel 2 years ago and we thought it was okay, so we decided to go back there for a couple of days when we travelled to Bahia last month to visit family and friends. This is the only Hotel in Ponta de Areia beach, Itaparica Island - 45 minuites by ferry boat from Salvador. Regretfully the Hotel seems to have been negleted a bit this time round. The Reception/lounge area didn't appear very clean or inviting. The wicker chairs and setees in teh sittign area, have seen better days. One of the wicker setees was even dammaged on one side and there were a few pages of an old magazine, yelowed by time, scaterred on its tired looking cushion, for the 2 days that we were there, a sign that, that part of the Hotel, which should be an inviting, nice, sitting area for the guests, was not cleaned or tidied regurlalry, let alone daily. 2 years ago, we had our breakfast at the part of the Hotel which faces the beach and it was lovely to eat listening to the array of birds and with a view of the beautiul sea. Breafast this time was served in the reception area, which is a bit dark, not very clean, with workmen sat on a corner chatting away, and kitchen maids on another corner pealing and cutting vegetables for lunch or dinner. It is a shame, because this is the only Hotel in Ponta de Areia beach, which is a very nice, peaceful location, with a lovely beach of calm waters. I could say more about this Hotel but will stop here. It is a shame that the current administrators are not doing a good job, considering that all the other accomodation places in Ponta de Areia are just small guest houses and this one Hotel could do a fantastic job. Sorry to my Tripadvisor fellow travellers that I have nothing good to say about this place. We will not be going back there. We had better luck the following week when we stayed in a Pousada in Praia do Forte. I will write a review on that one.

The Portugueses Pedro, Catarina e Francisco have landed on the island in 2001, fallen in love with it and became native. The Pousada is located on the nice fishermen´s village of Aratuba, a quite lively place in Summer and peaceful quiet in Spring or any other season. We stay at the far corner of the village (facing the Atlantic Ocean) sand and sea ahead: you just have to open the small wooden gate and step on the fine and warm sand. Anything better? As (the famous Brazilian writer) Joao Ubaldo Ribeiro says. "Heaven the better, because the island’s heaven on earth." It has a wild beauty, a never ending beach, calm sea, natural swimming-pools, mangroves, green everywhere... All the rest is our pleasant affair/business: comfort, security and kindness. Here you can practice "The difficult art of doing nothing": a walk by the seaside, a good chat in the garden or on the beach sipping a cool drink while waiting for the magnificent moon rising; you can have a tasty "moqueca" (the island is famous for its fish and seafood), take a restful nap on the hammock or simply be in love and profit the best of life. So, don't hesitate! Come and stay with us and join the group of guests that became friends. Pedro, Catarina & Francisco
very good value, nice rooms with fan. it needs a fridge better than tv to be really very good... Italian owned, very nice furnitures, but the walls are a bit thin and you can hear everything (specially tv) from the room beside.... restaurant is really good, best fresh fish i had in Brazil.

It's hard to know how to rate this sort of place. The owners are lovely, the setting is nice, but the rooms are incredibly basic to the point of not nice. The bed is a foam mattress on a concrete slab. The fan has two settings, "off" and "tornado"! Not the best sleep ever. Breakfast was reasonable and the swimming pool, although oddly green, was clean and refreshing.
