The city of "New Bamboo," Hsinchu sways like a sturdy reed under the cooling breeze that rolls from the Taiwan Strait. Buzzing with the activity of numerous science and technology universities, Hsinchu is forward-thinking, attracting high-tech companies from around the world—a charming juxtaposition of modernity and antiquity for the oldest city in northern Taiwan. Hsinchu's historic moat flows through central parks and green spaces, and the scholarly carvings on the Guan Di Temple contribute to the city's intellectual sensibility. I stayed here for just one night but had an awful experience. I had a very important meeting in Hsinchu and would like to stay at a comfortable 5-star hotel the day before. Since Ambassador Hotel Hsinchu is a renowned 5-star hotel, I chose to stay there. That was the worst decision I have ever made in my life. I booked a room with breakfast earlier but switched to the booking without breakfast when I checked in very late in the evening. The employee Katie said no problem and would assist me to change the room rate without breakfast. I also told Katie that I was on a business trip and a receipt was needed. I gave her my tax ID number and asked her to have the receipt ready when I checked out. However, as I checked out the next morning, the other employee Pony said I had to pay a higher rate and insisted that nothing was noted on the computer. I tried to explain to Pony that his colleague Katie helped me with the booking last night and kindly asked Pony to confirm with Katie with the situation. Pony said that it was not necessary, and he did not want to disturb Katie while she was off duty. Pony told me that he had no access to approve my request for paying the rate without breakfast. Thus, I asked to talk to the Manager. Then Pony called to the manager and talked to the manager on the phone for quite a long time. After Pony hanged out the phone, he said that manager would come here to assist me. What I could not understand was that why the manager could not give the order over the phone and had to come to the counter personally to handle this easy and small case. During the whole conversation, I tried to tell Pony that I was in hurry and please accelerated the process. Pony kept saying he was sorry and there was nothing he could do. The manager Aaron Siao finally appeared at the counter after 30 minutes. Ironically, the computer was SHUT DOWN at the same time! I was irritated, and I did not know what to say. It took me 30 minutes to check out and it came to a ridiculous ending. I got to leave because I would be late for the important meeting if I stayed at the hotel for one more second. Thus, I left the hotel without getting my receipt and not knowing how much I was charged for the stay. The reason I chose this 5-star hotel because I wished I could have a better service and good rest before my big day. Thank to Katie, Pony, manager Aaron Siao, I was late for the meeting. Never choose this hotel if you are on a business trip!

Located right at the middle of the city. It is of walking distance to City God Temple and the Art Canal and shopping district. We reached at 2pm, where the check in time was 3pm. Hotel front desk helped is to store our luggages and told us they will move the luggages to the room so we can collect our cards and go up directly. Kudos! To their hospitality! Front desk staff also informed us of the breakfast peak period and told us to avoid it if possible. Generally it is staffed by people who has empathy and considerations for tired travellers!

Came over to attend my classmate’s son’s wedding feast. The ball room is quite nice & the wedding feast is organized very well. My classmate was very pleased for his solo son’s wedding. The banquet was prepared and cooked nicely. Overall, it’s a nice wedding feast.

Nice new hotel in boutique style. Clean room and bathroom. Staff is OK and friendly. Breakfast is fine, also for europeans. Around the hotel are enough places to eat. During the day there was not much available for lunch. Enough charging points for your electronics.

We just stayed one night on the way to Alishan. Check in was fast and the staff was friendly. The room was clean and decent sized with all the usual bath amenities. The air-conditioning was pretty strong too. We had a room facing the main road but the traffic noise was hardly noticeable. Car park was in the basement and they have a revolving drum system like what you see in some Japanese car parks. Just be careful parking your car. The attendant was pretty helpful guiding me in and out though. Lots of food options around the area so that was convenient. Overall a pleasant stay and would come back again.

Nice little place. Clean room but occassional smells in the bathroom (plumbing???). If you have little kids, make sure you pick the channels for them (free x rated stuff) and don't let them scan the channels. Free water and breakfast. CNN for us English speakers. Close to our relatives. Otherwise nice.
