Cleavers Lyng is a unique grade II listed luxury country house of considerable charm and character dating back to 1577. A 4 star recommended AA property, privately owned and operated. The house is situated in a quiet country lane, a 5 min walk to Herstmonceux Castle or 1.5 miles from Herstmonceux Village and benefits from panoramic uninterrupted views over the Pevensey flats towards the South Downs. We are an ideal location for the Sussex Weald.
Enjoyed our stay here. Breakfast was very good, Owners very welcoming, room was very hot indeed but as an old building heat travels upwards. Quite a drive to any town etc. for an evening meal as a rural setting so very quiet and peaceful.

I'd like to review the breakfast at The Crown, but unfortunately I can't, because after waiting almost half an hour to be served we gave up and went to our usual breakfast place. Staff seemed friendly, and told us they would come to the table to take our order, then proceeded to ignore us while serving a steady procession of customers who came in after us.

This was the strangest experience I’ve ever had. We struggled to figure out the rave reviews for this guesthouse and in the end we did. There’s a two night minimum stay (the local wedding venues mean there’s a captive audience) at a hefty £100 a night for a small, dated (a bit like staying at your Nan’s), noisy (there’s a very busy road) room with a bathroom across the hall. This was a shock coming from the luxurious four star OneWarwickPark in Tunbridge Wells (£120 a night for their lovely large townhouse room with ensuite overlooking the quaint Pantiles). The food here is good (£30 a head for a two course dinner, so not cheap), but the owners shouldn’t be working in hospitality. If you don’t want a punter to check in during certain hours put a polite notice on the door. Do not unleash your rage on them (they’ve history of this - I checked previous reviews). The proprietor’s thin veneer of bonhomie covers an anger and deep unpleasantness that made us so uncomfortable that we considered checking out immediately. His wife looks haunted and anxious. Within the first few minutes of meeting them you get the full history of their personal problems. This pathology of over sharing rang alarm bells for us, but I’m sure most people fall for it and feel sorry for them, hence the good reviews. The other three couples in our wedding party staying there felt the same unwelcoming and strange vibes (one lady said it was like living back with her disapproving mum and dad). It’s been over a week since this stay but we are still deeply weirded out by the experience!

Stayed for a long weekend over Easter and wasn't disappointed. The lodge was spotless and everything looked brand new. The lovely comfortable beds and quietness of the park was just what we needed to relax. The hot tub was such an added extra that I would defiantly recommend using. The beach at Pevensey was wonderful and the park is a good base to explore the area. We were sorry to leave, thank you for a wonderful break.

Excellent accommodation, with super kind owners who went the extra mile to make our stay perfect. The property was spotless and our room was tastefully furnished and extremely well equipped. We would have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful B&B to anyone.

Starnash is a typical Sussex-style farmhouse, 11 miles from Lewes and 9 miles from Glyndebourne, in the village of Upper Dicker. Set back from the road with views over fields and trees, the farmhouse has vintage charm and a modern-rustic style. It is also eco-friendly with an efficient ground source heating system and a discreet array of solar panels.
Beautiful little farmhouse in the middle of nowhere but very close to BEDE's school and also not far from Eastbourne and Brighton, so to speak not far from the sea. The house is fantastic, the landlords very friendly and helpful people. The breakfast as the headline says was the best english breakfast I had, served in a personal and friendly manner. Thanks a lot Vicky and best regards to your husband and Winnie.

This bed and breakfast is a little gem in the heart of the beautiful East Sussex countryside. The bedroom ( with shower) was charming and very comfortable. The house and gardens are stunning. The house is set in an extremely quiet and peaceful area. The swimming pool is a fantastic asset. Peter and Irene are a lovely, interesting couple who make you feel very welcome. We were the first people to arrive since Covid 19 and all went very smoothly. We will definitely be booking again. A fantastic bed and breakfast.
