South of Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the Austrian border lies Germany's highest mountain, Zugspitze, rising nearly 10,000 feet and offering gorgeous glacier-top skiing. The towns of Garmisch and Partenkirchen used to be separate, but were merged for the 1936 Winter Olympics. With almost 75 miles of downhill runs of all difficulty levels, Zugspitze also has 68 miles of cross-country trails, a terrain park and Germany's first superpipe. It's super cool to say you were skiing in Garmisch, so be sure to spread the word upon your return.

We were in town to see the Passion Play in Oberammergau. We stayed two nights at the Staudacherhof. Fantastic hotel, great location, and the staff are very accommodating and friendly. Fiona at the front desk was especially kind and helpful. We booked a Private Spa Night and had a wonderful time. Many thanks to Anja for the delicious food and creating such a special night for our family. We've stayed in many hotels throughout Germany and this was definitely our favorite.

My family and I stayed in this hotel for one night in the last week of May. The hotel is beautiful. Great location to the walking center of the town. The staff at reception were very gracious and hospitable. The rooms were beautifully furnished with wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. The food at dinner and breakfast was also delicious. I wish we had a longer time to stay. I will certainly come back.

I enjoyed my stay at the Hyperion Garmisch-Partenkirchen so much. The hotel is located within walking distance of the best restaurants in town, the main train station, the bus and cogwheel train lines to the Zugspitze, and so much more. However, the thing I enjoyed most about the hotel was the staff. Everyone went out of their way to make my stay comfortable.

We arrived a little behind schedule to be met by the indomitable Barbara who is the Boss. She was very welcoming and kind, immediately providing beer to two thirsty motorcyclists?. The Gasthof is very nice and we were sorry to have missed out on the singing and beer drinking as it is closed on Tuesday/Wednesday. Room was fine, shower good, breakfast was excellent. Thank you Barbara.

We had originally booked the Atlas Sport Hotel, but they moved us to the Atlas Grand Hotel after presumably overbooking. The Atlas Grand Hotel has a luxury lodge atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and helpful. If staying in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on leisure in the future, we would love to stay here again.

The Hotel Bar “Enoteca” serves a great mix of cocktails, fine wine, freshly tapped beer and great appetizers.
We love this traditional Bavarian hotel with recently updated baths. It is warm and friendly. Virginia was great with our check-in and answered many questions about the area. Our room (double on the second floor of the main building) was very large with a balcony overlooking the street. Their fine dining restaurant has delicious elevated Bavarian dishes with impeccable service.

A wonderful hotel very much in the Bavarian style on a quiet road with direct view of the alps. Cozy rooms, very clean, good wifi and very friendly staff. All in all one of the best hotel stays we ever had. Can highly recommend this hotel or may be I should keep it as a well hidden secret.

We stayed here 5 days. Loved it. 1.5mi to Edelweiss. Short walk into town. Biggest downside is GYM/POOL/SAUNA hours. 8am-9pm? I wanted to work out first thing in the am and sauna AFTER my kids slept. Not really a big deal but NO lotion/pen/paper provided. But it makes sense that there is a NIVEA store downstairs. Genius supply and demand move eh :) A blessing in disguise but NO phone in the rooms. The POOL(s) are TOP NOTCH. One of the best I’ve ever seen. Kiddie pool. Lap pool. Outdoor pool. Spa. And a mild sauna by the pool. Plenty of rooms for families and sleeping. I would definitely like to come back here again.

I was probably unlucky in my choice of a (single) room. Dear oh dear! The (top floor) view of the scenery was panoramic but the furniture made me feel like I was staying in a store of leftover furniture. Really NOT a quality experience but, in all other regards, my stay was most enjoyable. Reception staff might lack a touch of light friendliness but the willingness to help me (when I REALLY needed help) was exemplary. Everything about the ground floor seemed to be very ‘Grand Manner’, especially the dining room, which is a gem . . . With breakfast to match. I ate well and I slept well so it would be churlish not to award high marks. Who knows? Maybe my room is next on the list for a post-Covid facelift. Would I recommend the room? Never in a month of Sundays. Would I recommend the hotel? Without any hesitation.

Overall we had a good stay at the Hotel Garmischer Hof. The restaurant was excellent for both breakfast and dinner and had a good number of tasty vegetarian and vegan options which was important for us. They also serve lovely home brewed beers. Staff in the restaurant were friendly and attentive. The restaurant is closed Monday and Tuesday. Our family room was large and suited 4 of us without a problem. Warm. Beds were comfy. Clean. Plenty of hot water. What we missed was a kettle and tea and coffee in the room. Ski boot room was good with heaters. Good location if you are taking the train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, as we did. A few mins from the station and right in the centre of town so you can walk to all the shops and restaurants. The hotel lacks a lounge or sitting area and therefore also lacks a bit of ambience or a sense of social space. I am not sure if this is due to Covid. After skiing, people like to sit with a drink or maybe a tea/coffee and relax somewhere. Other that the restaurant there is a small bar that opens at 5pm but this is run externally to the hotel and the arrangement between the two is not clear - I didn’t get much sense that the owner of the bar was that interested in hotel guests. Business must be good because I was told in no uncertain terms that I was not allowed to play cards at 5pm with my daughter after ordering a drink. Seems a tad draconian and we voted with our feet and went elsewhere. Don’t think the bar owner gave a fig. Overall we had a good stay but if coming back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen I would most likely give another hotel a try.
