Great hotel option within walking distance from the train station. We took the 90 minute train from Shinjuku. You see the dark red, multi-storey hotel from the station. We were there to visit the Chichibu distillery. Great option to stay overnight. Rooms were very spacious and well appointed. Internet was good. Lots of variety for breakfast (some of which we didn't know what it was but tried it anyway). As another reviewer mentioned, they are VERY strict on the check in and check out times, but will hold your bags for you. Chichibu is such a lovely place to walk around in. Great restaurants too!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in May 2019. While the hotel does not look particularly flash from the outside, inside it is quite lovely and our room (one of 3 with a private bath) was pretty spectacular. So the room itself had a deck area (with shower facilities and a big pot bath, full and constantly heated) of maybe 20m2, with the inside having a separate raised sleeping area, a living area, and the kitchen/dining area. I'd think the interior would be maybe double the size of a standard Japanese room. Seriously, you would be happy to live in this place . All of the fittings were nice, nothing was cheap or slapped together. A real surprise for the price - around 15000 jpy per person per night, with breakfast. We had the kaiseke on the first night. It was good, nice portions, not too extravagant, not too basic. That was an extra 5000jpy per person, I think it was pretty good value at that. Breakfast was very good, buffet style, mainly Japanese. The room (and bath) looks out over a gully and creek. It looked interesting and was a nice forestry outlook. The hotel is in Onohara which is 5 to 10 minutes from Seibu Chichibu station. Onohara station itself is very quiet and a fair distance from the hotel. I'd suggest a taxi from Seibu Chichibu station would be easier. Finding food options around the hotel isn't easy. Along the trainline there are some other nice towns worth a look. We liked it enough that we figure we will go back, same room, same hotel.

Opened in 1901, Guest House Nishiki nestles in natural environment in Saitama where you can relax and feel like home. From here, it is only a five minutes' walk from bus stop Kowaishi and ten minutes by public bus from Mitsumineguchi Station. Seibu Chichibu Station is only thirty five minutes away. The hotel offers on-site facilities such as shared kitchen, luggage storage, and Wi-fi internet connection for a convenient stay. Free parking is also available on-site. All rooms are equipped with traditional futon bedding on a tatami (woven-straw) floor. Experience the traditional way of living with thoughtful amenities at Guest House Nishiki. The guesthouse does not provide any meal service. However shared kitchen is available for guest. There are no supermarkets and convenience stores nearby the guesthouse. If you want to buy some stuffs or foods, please stop at super market such as "Berg, Yaoyoshi" in Chichibu city. Since the opening in 1901, the guesthouse has been slightly refurbished, however some insects and sound leakage may exist.
I spent 2 nights in here at the end of June. Haji was really kind and we sat and drank beer and chatted about bears. He suggested a hiking route for me for the first morning and kindly drove me to the start point. The surrounding area is incredibly beautiful, mountainous scenes all around and lovely fresh air away from Tokyo. I really enjoyed my stay here and would go again. :))

Staffs were so rude. We already made advance payment through booking.com but staff insist to pay at the time of check in. We have to get information for “onsen” and beverage from other guests of hotel. There is not even a single pouch of coffee and a bottle of water in the room. The carpet of room and bathroom was so dirty. No availability of food and beverage. Really terrible, can’t express the experience in words. Worst experience I ever had.

We speak no Japanese and hotel staff spoke little English but everything went with min hitches. 1. We arrived via Shinjuku Ikebukuro line which terminated at Seibu-Chichibu station not Chichibu station facing our hotel. Took a 5 min taxi ride as we had luggage. Taxi driver gave us a free ride. 2. Our friend had mistakenly booked a smoking room and we had prepaid, but the hotel manager agreed to change our rooms first going up to check to ensure the room was clean as it was new year and staff had gone for the day. All this time he and front desk kept apologizing for asking us to wait to wait. 3. There was no English tourist info and the next day, the manager surprised us for he had taken the trouble to get us a copy from somewhere. 4. The restaurant attached to hotel was very atmospheric, food was really excellent and good value

The Sakamoto family have run this traditional pre-Meiji Samurai home for generations, and it shows. They have kept abreast of the modern conveniences and innovations to keep the integrity of their accommodations, services and cuisine. The breakfast-dinner plan is recommended for at least one night of your stay for the full experience. Downstairs is a smart kiosk of all the local fare and crafts. If you stay long enough, a couple of local snacks will be refreshed in your room's bowl. Taxis or a rental car work best getting there (the shuttle is appropriate for all the morning trains leaving), it lies equidistant from the Seibu-Yokoze, Seibu-Chichibu and Chichibu Testudo stations at roughly 4km (a cab ride of ~1,750円 per direction). The hikes around the inn are excellent ranging from the mountain range surrounding the basin to the traditional Edo period pilgrimage route of 34 shrines. There are two or three restaurants adjacent to the property in case you're looking for variety. The hot spring is first class.

It's good it has a shuttle car when you arrived 和銅黑谷 station. There is a payphone in front of station. The welcome service is great, they serve you soft drink during check-in. The hotel is besides of creek, the view is just OK. The hot spring is very good, it feel very comfortable after taking bath. Food is beautiful and delicious.

We had a lovely overnight stay here. Log cabin style accommodation set in a forest setting. Each cabin is private and has a balcony with a table and stools and BBQ. Our cabin had 4 comfortable single beds that turn into sofas. Great bug nets on the windows and doors mean you can open the cabin right up or use the air-con. Cabin had a TV for the kids, its own toilet, shower, and utility area which included a Fridge, sink and possibly a microwave. Our package included use of the Japanese bath with a sauna room, a prepared BBQ meal which we cooked our selves at our cabin and a buffet breakfast in the restaurant. We did not try it but there is a tree top walk in the complex and a go carting circuit next door. Our kids enjoyed waling around the complex and we came across other family looking for beetles, kicking a soccer ball around in the large open space. It is a private place but seemed to be full of friendly families when we stayed. Highlight for us was the BBQ, everything is provided and prepared, all you have to do is use the firelighters to start the BBQ and cook it!

Located a short taxi ride from Chichibu railway station this is a very traditional Japanese Riyokan or guesthouse. Very limited English is spoken by the hosts but don't let this put you off! Using a combination of mime and google translate we were made very welcome. Our room was as expected, with tatami mat flooring and minimal furnishings ( other than a rather incongruous TV in the corner), air conditioning and a pleasant ante room with doors opening onto a small outdoor space. Traditional yukata and room socks were available for use. A splendid multi-course dinner was included, served at the customary early time of 6pm, with an extensive range of Sake to choose from. We were delighted to be invited to go on a short drive after dinner to see fireflies, an unexpected bonus. During dinner the hosts transformed our sitting room into a bedroom with futon bedding. As is usual in a Riyokan, there was a sento or hot bath available for guest use- with male, female or mixed use at different times. The small bar was opened after dinner from 9.30 onwards and had a superb range of Japanese whiskies, especially those from the local Chichibu distillery. Breakfast the next morning was vast- don't expect eggs and bacon! Overall a very interesting and enjoyable stay and difficult to think how it could be improved. Would definitely recommend .
