Small scale Resort, Diving center and Spa on Bunaken with attention to detail and a touch of authentic indonesian styling. A place to relax and enjoy the underwater wonders of Bunaken right at your doorstep.
We have been 1 week in Bunaken village resort. The time there was great. Hospitality, cleanliness, service quality, food - all from the best. Our room was 6 meters from the beach and the mangroves. Concerning Diving - we got excellent equipment, everything almost new or excellent maintained. The dive guides have been very good.

Cakalang a small hide away. A very friendly atmosphere, clean rooms with fresh water. Good food and our own dive center. Dive courses can be done in PADI and Naui
Me and my wife started with the plan to stay only a couple of nights but eventually stayed for a whole week. We loved staying at Cakalang. Very friendly owner and staff. Delicious 3 times a day meals and very relaxed atmosphere. We spend every of our mornings snorkeling (right in front of the resort wonderful snorkeling place with 500m stretch of coral reefs), mid-days "siesta" at the pool and in the afternoon strolling trough the small village for a volcano sunset. We love to come back for some diving and de-stress at Cakalang.

Featuring free WiFi and a terrace, Novita Homestay offers accommodation in Bunaken, 14 km from Manado. Guests can enjoy the on-site restaurant. Views of the sea, mountain or city are featured in certain rooms. There is a shared lounge at the property. Guests can enjoy various activities in the surroundings, including snorkelling, diving and fishing. Sam Ratulangi Airport is 17 km away.
Do not stay here. Novita see's you as a source of money and that's it. I had a terrible experience at Novita's Homestay, and unfortunately left Bunaken with a sour taste in my mouth. Novita is nice up front, but it became very apparent, very quickly how pushy she is for sales and commission. Novita's Homestay does not organize diving, but gets commission from a nice dive resort down the beach. As most travelers do, I wanted to do my own shopping around on the island to find the best dive shop to suit my needs, but she immediately pushed me to the resort she has a deal with (which I will not name, but it is a very nice place!) and had her husband drive me there right away. I didn't really have much of a choice. I ended up going with a different dive shop after visiting 4 more resorts after he brought me back to the homestay. They kept prying me for information, asking me if I'm diving or snorkeling- but with intent to try to push sales. I didn't tell them where I went diving, because I didn't want her to bother the other resort for commission- which they warned me that she would. After spending 2 nights here, I believe it. The last evening I was knackered from diving, so I was having a nap in my room. I listened to Novita yelling at someone for about 20 minutes as I fell asleep. At 6:45pm I was woken up with banging on the door and: "RIA- DINNER!". This is a real "home stay" experience; for a minute I was taken back to being 15 years old, at home with my parents yelling at me. I had to scramble to get clothes on while she was yelling my name. When I came out, half asleep, her husband said dinner was ready. I wasn't hungry and dinner technically isn't served until 7pm. So I said I would eat in 45 minutes. He said to me, "well, it's ready now". So to avoid an awkward/cultural miscommunication, I just ate the food. It took me an hour to eat since I had to force it down. At 8pm, Novita comes over and says, "Are you done? The staff needs to go home". As a business owner, forcing someone to eat faster is unprofessional and rude. Perhaps this was another culture clash, but my patience was running pretty thin. The last straw happened the next morning, where I made my decision to leave a day early. I left the homestay around 6am to have a quick snorkel off the jetty before breakfast. She saw me walk out and I felt like I was a teenager sneaking out. She rudely said to me, "Where are you going?". I said I was going for a walk, smiled and said bye. I had my snorkel and GoPro with me only. I was sitting out on the jetty, and lo and behold, she had sent her husband to come find me. It wasn't a coincidence that he just happened to show up at the jetty. No one else was around! I felt like I was being watched and followed the entire time I stayed here, by Novita. She was trying to keep an eye on me to make sure she knew who to ask for money if I gave them business. The morning I left, she gave me a big hassle and refused to give me my money back. I explained that I had to go back to Manado and she made it extremely difficult. I made the booking through Agoda, but paid in cash when I got there. I understand that Agoda takes a commission from her, but she tried to tell me the cost of the commission was 150 000 rupiah. It's only 22 000 rp, so I was happy to have her take that off the cost of the reimbursement. She said she didn't understand, and then tried to involve another traveler sitting at the table trying to eat her breakfast. She said she didn't understand and made a big hassle. She ended up calling her son, and he was nice about it all. She reluctantly gave me back the entire 150 000 to after hassling for a good 30 minutes. This is the cheapest place to stay in the village. The accommodation itself is clean and there are no complaints about the actual facility or the food. If you are on a budget and want to stay here for 150 000 rp a night, this was my experience. Do what you will with the info! Overall Novita was unprofessional and I did not enjoy my stay. I am a seasoned traveler, and have stayed in many places all over southeast Asia and the world. This was one of my worst experiences and I would never stay here or recommend anyone to stay here. But if you're on a budget- I get it! Just be assertive. Just remember that you have the right to choose the dive shop that meets your needs. It's your decision, not Novita's. You should feel comfortable and safe with the place you choose to dive with. Novita does not care/realize this and only cares about making as much commission as possible off all of her guests.

This is an excellent place to stay for diving or snorkelling and you are content to live in basic accommodation ie barrel of water for shower and no sink The couple who own this are exceptionally hospitable and the cooking is excellent but we found the noise in the village in the evening too loud , the lack of air conditioning difficult and there was limited places to go during the day. We’ve rated it 4 as this was our fault for not researching the island more and not theirs We paid booking.com for 3 nights but left after the first night The owner is undertaking an extension which will result in more accommodation and showers

Beautiful spot, but owner is total nut case. Abusing staff front of guests. Shouting and physically abusing local people. This person should be thrown out from Bunaken and sent back to his own country.

Formerly known as Panorama Cottages, Panorama Backpackers is one of the oldest and most experienced resorts on the island of Bunaken. Recently refurbished, it was originally established just as travellers began to reach the island. We have always been a family-run, local enterprise and our staff, all of whom are family and friends, will take pride in caring for you during your stay here. If you want a friendly, casual, backpacker-style retreat, with a genuine home-stay atmosphere, then Panorama could just be what you're looking for.
I had such a great stay at Panorama I have to share... The staff and owners are friendly, accommodating and competent. The location is devine, it feels a million miles away from the worries of modern life without giving up some of the small luxuries. The managers Rob and Selvi will sort out anything you want, including full day fishing / whale / dolphin watching (take sunscreen!) Sven and his team are some of the best dive guides I've had and so much to see!!! And all this within easy reach of Manado. I'm definitely coming back!
