My mom booked 2 rooms for my family when we visited for my Aunti and Uncle’s memorial service in Smith River. My mom checked us in before we arrived knowing that my daughter and I would be arriving very late after a 14 hour drive. My mom texted us that our room keys were at the front desk and we only had to show ID to pick them up. When we arrived at 11:30 pm the front desk did not know what was going on and tried to put us and our 2 very large dogs in my parents room. I said we had our own room and after about 30 minutes of struggling to figure it out the two people at the front desk (who were very nice and apologetic and were not the same my mom talked to) found us a room but asked for my credit card and said it would not be charged. In the morning my mom went to straighten it out and was told it was all taken care of. When we arrived back to our respective homes my mom realized she had been charged for 3 rooms ($1800 for 2 nights), and I saw that I had been charged $600. We only had booked and used 2 rooms. We have not yet received refunds (4 days later). Hopefully that happens soon! I feel like the dated property is way overpriced, especially for the off season. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable, which is why I gave 2 stars.

A little taken back at first

I was a bit taken back on my initial approach, but they are completing some renovation work and the office was still under construction. The rooms have been recently done over and are large, clean and comfortable.. I liked being in the middle of the action at this commercial fishing port and marina. A nice restaurant with in walking distance that was all locals .

Second Try No Better

I have personally stayed at this hotel before and was so excited. The front desk clerk was not very friendly and frankly kind of rude. The room even though it is older was clean but does need updating badly. I had a room closer to the road and the road noise was terrible. So loud. I did not have a good night sleep. Any way I booked a co-worker at the same hotel just two days ago. I used a app to book the hotel so the mix up could be with them. My co worker shows up and the clerk was very rude. Stated that there was nothing booked. Co worker had the confirmation email with him and the gentlemen wouldn't even look at it. Was turning him away and then said well there was a cancelation. He put him up in that room but charged him $20.00 dollars more than what was charged on web site. We won't be staying there again.

Clean and convenient

Reviewed By Kristen D

Our family stayed here for two nights in July. The room was clean and the location was right off the 101, which proved to be good and bad. Great for activity purposes (the nearby tide pools are awesome!), but bad if you want to actually sleep. The first night we stayed was a Saturday and apparently every drag racer and car without a muffler from miles around cruised up and down over and over until midnight. I’d never seen or heard anything like it. Sunday night was better, but the walls are thin and you can hear a lot of what’s happening in the room next door. The manager was nice. There were no cribs available.

Great in-town location, but overpriced, neglected “resort”!

Reviewed By Kathy L

Hotel demand is high in Brookings, Oregon in August – especially during special events such as the “Festival of Art” show we were participating in. “No vacancy” signs were in EVERY hotel (RV parks too), & even the Harris Beach State Park campground was full. We did have confirmed reservations (made months in advance) at the Blue Coast Inn and Suites. Unfortunately the evening we got to the Blue Coast Inn – it was closed, & there was a “quarantine” notice on the locked hotel entryway because the hotel manager had a positive Covid test the day before. Our reservations had been cancelled, and no one had contacted us about this! We drove north, trying to find other accommodation, but no luck. So we went back to Brookings, and stopped at several “no vacancy” motels – hoping there may be a cancellation. Luckily at the Brookings Inn Resort – there was! And we were so grateful to the excellent customer service & cheerfulness of the front-desk clerk – “Shay” - who made it possible for us to stay. However, we choked at the high nightly fee, & required 2-night minimum stay. We didn’t really need a room with 2 queen beds – but it was the only one available. There was no choice for us, and we accepted. Evidently all the hotels in the area had similarly inflated summer rates – because they could. Thus we had high expectations at this “resort” for the price we had to pay (currently priced at over $200/night + taxes). The room was very spacious & clean, but notably very plain. There was a small fridge with freezer, but no microwave. There was a table by the window & two worn chairs, but no art on the wall. The remote to the flat-screen TV above the dresser was partially defective, making it difficult to change channels. There were bare, florescent light tubes with incomplete covers over the sink counter, & the soap dispensers were nearly empty. The drip coffee maker was tiny & worn, & only made one cup at a time. The faceplate over the wall plug in the bedroom was chipped off. There was a lack of special touches – such as artfully folded towels or chocolate treats on the pillows. And worse – when going up & down the outside stairwell to our 2nd floor-“resort” room were the ugly, blotched & badly paint-chipped steps & handrails – a glaring, in-your-face neglect, and blatant disregard to the beauty of the area, and to the visitor who expected more. They did have a good ice machine downstairs. And their covered pool in the parking lot was full of laughing/water-jumping kids! A Shell gas station with Circle K was right next door, and nearby was Fred Meyers offering groceries and deli take-out. Also, Harris Beach State Park was nearby for beach walks, seaside photography, and enjoying the evening sunsets. Lesson learned: if you’ve made reservations, call to confirm your arrival the night before, and have a PLAN B! Be prepared for high prices if you have no reservations! Obviously advance bookings are a “must” if you want your choice of a hotel when visiting this popular coastal town in summertime – but in these uncertain times of Covid disruptions, double check before you go!

Friendly budget hotel. Good location. Awkward room layout

Reviewed By LISA M

This is an older hotel that has had a recent exterior facelift. Inside, the rooms are very much from the '70s. They're clean, and everything you need, but not much to write home about. My husband and I shared room with their college age son. The floor plan made that awkward since the sink area was open to the room, with only a tiny bathroom with toilet and shower. Also the refrigerator and microwave was in the same room as the sink. So my husband was fixing breakfast in the same room where I was fixing my hair. It was awkward. On the plus side, The people who run the place were really sweet. I asked for some tea which they didn't have, so she ran upstairs to her personal stash and got me some. Great service! It's also just down the street from Harris beach, one of our favorites.
