In the heart of Bearn, nestled between the Basque coast and the Pyrenees, treat yourself to a stay at the Hotel du Parc and Casino in Salies de Bearn. The Hotel is a magnificent 19th century building, registered as a National monument. Enjoy the calm grounds, comfortable rooms, the beautiful foyer and the buzz of gambling hall. 51 Elegantly refurbished rooms A perfect blend of modern comfort and traditional architecture.
Two nights repeat stay here was, as ever, delightful with a large and well equipped room, comfortable double bed and good views over the town. The position is ideal for visiting the Spa (Thermes) just downhill and thw whole town is walkable, including the rather more ambitious hill, the Pain de Sucre, where deer and some ponies are kept in fairly open conditions. Breakfasts were just fine, and we enjoyed one dinner there, well up to the standard of the hotel itself. We did not use the Casino incorporated, but the associated bar was pretty well stocked.

Conveniently situated on the Pau to Saragossa route over the Pyrenees this family run & well maintained hotel is superb. Welcoming and relaxed, but attending to every detail the hotel has an excellent restaurant presenting freshly prepared delicious food, to a very high standard, by gourmet chef Baptiste Lartigau. Also open to non-residents for lunch and dinner it clearly has a very good local reputation. We booked the ground floor room and conveniently parked our car directly outside. We benefitted from a very large wet room/ bathroom with quality fittings. The bedroom was large, brightly decorated and had its own air con unit and a central heating radiator. The Propriétaire Mme Lartigau is delightful, helpful and professional. We were pleased to have booked 2 nights and were able to enjoy the tranquil garden with views of the snow-capped Pyrenees.

Camping Beau Rivage is a small, family run campsite nestled between the ramparts of the fortified town of Navarrenx and the fast-flowing gave d'Oloron in the Béarn region of south-west France. Our chalets offer comfort and privacy for up to 6 people with fully equipped kitchen, 2 bedrooms and a private covered terrace. The town is a five minute walk from the site with a choice of shops, bars and restaurants close at hand.
We love this camp site and would highly recommend it. It is very clean and well laid out with shrubs and trees. There is good wifi. We had a High Comfort Pitch which was large and had its own water tap. The owners speak English and are very friendly and helpful. We feel lucky to have discovered this little gem in a beautiful part of France.

Made an en-route stop on our way to Spain and for this it was a very good choice; the hotel has been run by the same family since 1925 and combines the traditional and modern. It is traditional, in respect of the decoration and ambiance in the dining and breakfast rooms, and modern in respect of the decoration of bedrooms and facilities. No noisy plumbing, flock wallpaper and 20watt bulbs; the bedroom was light and airy and my wife described the shower as the best she had ever used in France. The menu choices were a bit limited; the €26 and €30 menus each had a choice of 2 starters, 2 mains (Meat or Fish) and two Desserts. For both menus, the Fish was “Fish from the market that day”, my wife had the Veal whilst I had lamb which meant that we chose from different menus. I would have preferred one of the starters on the other menu! There is of course an A La Carte option but a single menu with say four choices for each course would be preferable for me. That is not to say I was unhappy with my choice, all the elements were enjoyed by us both. Breakfast was traditional, there was a selection of homemade preserves with hand written labels, for which my schoolboy French was insufficient, ham and cheese, cereals and, of course, baguettes and croissants. Also there was a tray of fresh eggs, which presumably could be cooked to order, but you then need the language skills to find and talk to someone to arrange this. The nod to modernity was a Coffee machine but I would have preferred the traditional pot of coffee and jug of hot milk. Overall we were made very welcome, the hotel is well maintained, menus are based on the locally available produce, and, whilst choice may be a little limited, the dishes are well cooked and presented. So, for some traditional French hospitality at a fair price, Chez Germaine is a good choice.

Modern and yet not lacking in character, this hotel restaurant 4* holds a stategic position in the heart of the bearn area. The carefully thought out design, the use of the fine materials and the soundproofing all testify to the emphasis placed comfort. The welcome is warm, and the sophisticated cuisine prepared exclusively with local food; Spa /Sauna and fitness free for the guests of the hotel.
Stayed at the Alyson over the Christmas holidays. The rooms were excellent with really comfortable beds and a good breakfast. Whilst we did not get the chance to try the restaurant I was told it is very good. The place to stay if you are visiting this part of France

Very comfortable, beautifully furnished and well run address. Breakfast was copious and delightfully presented and the one meal we had was not fancy but excellent with fresh ingredients. It was difficult to find something one wanted that wasn't available -except a better internet connection. Thank you again Mme Hofstetter

We came a while ago in summer, it is a beautiful place hidden under the mountains. The swimming pool is just stunning with views all around and birds of prey floating over your heads. The breakfast was delicious with yummy local produce and Nadege was very friendly and let us stay a bit longer in the pool after our walk!

First time stay on a golf course and it was quite relaxing despite the very hot weather. Our room was one of the cheaper ones overlooking the course but was clean and pleasant, apart from the WC being oddly on the other side from the shower and washbasin. In late June it was quiet at night and no noise from the closed bar, but the hot weather had apparently encouraged the frogs to make a bit of noise at night if that bothers you. Reasonably-priced breakfast is very good woth fresh fruit on our second morning. Good value for money about 15 minutes walk into the centre of Salies, and 5-6 minutes walk to a Carrefour supermarket.

A small but charming village at the foot of the Pyrénées, this restaurant looked fine. And it was. Good service, we sat outside and had delicious pizzas. Nice thin crusts, like it should be, in my opinion. I recommend the blue cheese and goat cheese pizza, for a blue cheese lover it was very good. She had chorizo, which was also quite good. Recommend.
