Encircled by some of the best-preserved defense walls in Europe, ancient Avila seems straight from the Castile region's medieval past. Nighttime illumination only adds to the allure of the turrets, fortified palaces, and cathedrals of this storybook World Heritage city.

This Parador ,located in the monumental Avila, was built over the former Piedras Albas Palace, backs onto the city walls and offers a magnificent atmosphere. Beautiful decorative elements, granite floors, bright colours and large rooms make up a harmonious whole.
What a lovely hotel! the building is very old so there are beautiful carved walls, lovely old floor tiles and panels of patterned tiles throughout. The location is brilliant, with easy access to everything including the city walls. The staff were friendly and helpful, speaking really good english. The hotel has an integrated covered car park which was really useful as we did not have to go outdoors to access the car. Our evening meal was excellent - gluten free rolls were offered and the staff were very knowledgable about my gluten free needs. We both had the local iberian beef steak and it was delicious. The bar was comfortable and the bar staff friendly, and breakfast was excellent. Our room was a good size and very well equipped. A fantastic stay!

Great location just inside the city walls with onsite parking. The hotel is a very sympathetically refurbished old building retaining beams and walls adding great character. The rooms are airy and bright with a very comfortable bed. Great staff who are friendly and helpful. We used the bar for breakfast and tapas, excellent choice and very reasonably priced and we dined in the restaurant where the food was amazing and again excellent staff. Would stay again without a doubt!!

Great location. Rooms very large as we had an upgraded room at the front of the hotel. Breakfast good. The hotel does have about 40 car spaces underground. You can request in advance but no guarantees at 16 e/day. Rather noisy in hotel as noise from other guests, hot water takes a LONG time to come on and the bathtub is very narrow which makes taking a shower using the wand sporty.

Historical palace from XIV century; converted to a cozy, modern hotel maintaining its historical heritage in decoration/ambiance.
This hotel was a former palace and is in an enviable position alongside the cathedral. In the hotel, the corridors are wide and the rooms and bathrooms are a good size. T However, the bathrooms are dated, the showers though big, have sticking doors, the sink had a huge crack in it and the toilets, though I am of average height are very high. The view was into a well with huge pipes running up and across it and a somewhat scruffy base area. The beds are comfortable and clean and the place, at least the two nights we were there, was quiet. The breakfasts are a bit disappointing, the hot food, eggs, bacon, mushrooms and sausages were decidedly on the cold side, one morning worse than the other. Parking is a big problem in Avila, if you can find a space inside the city walls it is very expensive. We found a free place with plenty of parking outside the city walls, beside the local police station but a good half mile from the hotel.

If you are looking for a well priced, central location, and authentic stay in Avila, this is it! It is an extremely down to earth place, with no air of pretentiousness. I chose to stay here between May and June 2017, and it far exceeded my expectations. The hosts were great and they went out of their way to help me with all my needs. I asked for a list of mass times in Avila, and Raquel kindly looked up all the mass times in Avila and printed them out for me. She even suggested that I take a look at one mass in particular at the Monastery down the hill; it was the most special mass of my life, with the most angelic voices from the cloistered nuns! She also suggested a place where I can wash my clothes and that REALLY helped as well! The fact that the hosts are willing and eager to speak with their guests is something that is not commonplace nowadays in many hotels. It gives you insight when you engage with the locals into the region and place, and this is something that gives you a better understanding as a traveler, not a tourist. Breakfast was good as well, with a hearty selection of bread, yogurt, orange juice, coffee, as well as an assortment of pastries. Some of the pastries were wrapped, which were perfect for when I got the munchies while driving around Castile and Leon! What else...the internet met my needs and was even suffice to hold wi-fi calling back to the United States, so I would say it is pretty good. The hosts let you come in late with a code so if you plan on partying, you can come late. I enjoyed my room which consisted of a nice full bed, and a skylight showcasing the medieval wall of Avila. The shower was quite strong as well so another plus! I think to sum up, if you want to experience that Spanish, particularly Castilian, hospitality of a family owned and run hotel, Arco San Vicente is your best bet in Avila!

This hotel is right in the Wall city, everything is at a convenience distance. The room is clean, bed is firm with good clean sheets. The small washroom has everything compressed inside. The only complaint I have is that they probably wash their bedsheets in some fragrance. I have allergy and is hypersensitive. I hope they read this and wash their sheets without fragrances because there are a lot of people who are sensitive to floral fragrances. My overall review is the is a great location and price.

I can't understand how this place has got such a good score !!!!! Yes the location is perfect but other than that it is a very basic little hostal. The rooms are small, the beds like slabs, the pillows are bricks and the bathroom was just big enough to turn around in. We could clearly hear people in other rooms talking and the noise from the shower next door was horrendous. On top of all that we booked and paid for breakfast only to be told they were not serving breakfast

If you are interested in exploring Avila, check out a government building, such as City Hall. At El Rastro Hotel, your comfort and satisfaction come first, and they look forward to welcoming you to Avila.
The frequent comments that you see about el Rastro that they are pointedly rude are true. I speak Spanish with a Mexican accent and we were treated like we were not wanted. They wear their Castilian disdain for tourists and outsiders on their sleeve and unapologetically. The rooms are clean but need updated beds (split twins) and plumbing work as the medieval gutter odor was dominant in our bathroom. This arrogant attitude was not at all visible in any other Iberian city on our 3 week trip but it is dominant in Avila. I recommend a quick visit here without a stopover.
