A coastal resort complete with hot springs, Atami has been a favorite vacation spot for Tokyoites dating back to Tokugawa Ieyasu. Though the city's main draws are its beach boardwalk and spas, visitors can take in some history staying in early 20th-century private villas converted to inns and catching the afternoon Geisha dance performance at Geigi Kenban.

This is a nice hotel but unfortunately during summer the beach lifeguards shout all day into speakers and the loud noise enters the room even with windows closed. The loud noise is unnecessary and very uncomfortable in these beach front rooms. If you are on the beach the noise is worse of course. They need to fix the summer noise pollution. The hotel should speak to the city office about this. My family would like to stay again during this coming 2020 summer but the noise is a big issue. Many other people staying at the hotel have the same issue.

If you are staying in Atami, this place is great. There is a nice kitchen, soup and rice breakfast is only three hundred yen, there are plenty of restaurants nearby. The sleeping space is crowded if you try to put your luggage in too. The showers are clean and plenty of hot water. Toilets do not have washlets. It is about 10 to15 minutes walk from the Atami train station and the guest house sign is a bit small so it is easy to miss. Rooms are a bit warm at night so you might turn off your light and open the door to cool the room off before going too sleep. I would stay here again. Visited 15 November 2018.

It takes 5-min from JR station to the hotel. The room is per toyoko Inn's standard, clean and tidy. The taste of complimentary breakfast is good. The frontdesk lady (forget to mark down her name) is very helpful, who shall be the best staff I met in Toyoko Inn. She always has smile and is willing to help as much as she can. The minor cons is the noise from JR train.

We stayed in the Royal Wing of the New Akao hotel. The hotel itself is pretty cool. It is build on the water over the side of huge cliffs. So being there is fun and views can be wonderful. The main New Akao hotel is almost 50 years old and shows it’s age. It is an interesting place though. The Royal Wing is a new part of the hotel and connects through a long corridor. The Royal Wing is nice and relaxing, big rooms, etc… They have a lounge and nice dining area. They have several onsens you can go into. The best one is a new one build own the side of the cliffs. Very nice atmosphere. New and clean. The service is nice, however rather slow and methodical. I also smelled cigarette smoke strongly in the lobby area throughout the day and especially in the evening, however I could not identify where it was coming from. It is supposed to be non-smoking, but certainly it smelled of smoke sometimes rather strongly. I think in the summer the kids can enjoy New Akao for swimming in the ocean as well. Good and interesting place if you come to Atami.

The originator to call “Foundation Stone”Hundreds of valuable rocks and stone lanterns hint at the distant past. Flowing water richly reflects the sparkle of the four seasons. Appearing throughout the elegant and distinguished garden, each Sukiya-style building has distinctive intangible beauty and fulfills moments of tranquility. The quintessence of hospitality in harmonious comfort fills the heart with joy.
Upmarket traditional ryokan experience. Excellent onsen. We were allocated our own butler called Mariko who was Kind, caring and attentive. The preparation of the food was Exceptionally artistic and meticulous. Breakfasts very traditional and may not be to everyone’s taste. For an authentic Japanese experience, this Is the spot. Recommended to us by local Japanese lawyer as “not cheap but the real thing”

Onsen Hostel Hinoemi is a Hostel situated in a secluded location over viewing the beautiful ocean. We are a children friendly hostel offering budget accommodation for travelers and families alike. Our hostel is decorated and filled with the mood of the Japanese Festivals. Enjoy the Japanese Ryokan Experience: You can take a hot spring bath, eat Atami’s local light meals, wear the Yukatas.
The hotel is located on top of a hill, you have to take a taxi to get up there if you have luggage. It is very basic, rooms are spacious but old. Staff are friendly, the breakfast is basic but filling. The shower is shared but since you would be using the onsen tub in the hotel, there is no need to use the share shower at all.
