After struggling through a labyrinth of streets we finally made it up to the fort - we could see it towering above the town but just couldn't drive to it easily. The fort is a state-owned and refurbished amazing building and tourist attraction, but it also has a hotel and restaurant built in. To stay in the hotel was such a magical experience. Prices were very reasonable. Unfortunately I chose badly in the restaurant that evening but this wouldn't stop me recommending a visit or a stay.

The hotel is located near the CBD, on the verge of the Meuse Valley and the Ardennes forests. The town is Arthur Rimbaud's birt place and the puppet world capital. The hotel features 68 rooms (23 non-smoking and 2 for disabled guests), bar, restaurant and private parking.
Lovely bright ground floor room, can open the big windows with security chain option . Very clean. Large comfy bed, perfect temperature in room.slept so well. Lovely bathroom. Friendly competent staff. Roomy patio with Plenty of seating, same in reception and restaurant. Nice little bar. Sadly no kettle or tea making facilities in room(this should be in every hotel) therefore Coffee in bar approx €3. (Clever hotel). No toilet brush. Plenty of pillows. Ok TV. Room service.

I stayed at the Kyriad Charleville-Mezieres for four nights in mid-October 2019. I reserved online. I am mobility impaired (I use a walker). I saw online that the hotel has facilities for the mobility handicapped, but at their Kyriad website and Booking. com I could not find a room for the handicapped as a choice when booking. I reserved a room and then sent an email to the hotel explaining what I needed. They responded the same day, in English and assured me they booked me into a room with the features I required. As it turned out I checked into the hotel around midnight. My friend (who speaks French) called the hotel earlier in the evening and explained I would be arriving quite late. Upon arrival we found the door locked and the lobby dark. (This is common in hotels in France, unless you are in a huge chain hotel like Marriott). However, I rang the doorbell and the front desk clerk appeared quickly. I was greeted with a friendly "Bonsoir, Madame" and handed my room key. I asked did I need to show my passport or credit card. No, no. How easy is that! There is an elevator to access all floors. I was very pleased to see I had been assigned a room with hand rails in the bathroom and a very nice roll-in shower with a shower chair and hand-held shower wand. The water pressure was good, there was plenty of hot water. The lighting in the bathroom was bright. There was a hairdryer. A eco-friendly combo body wash/shampoo is provided in a wall dispenser. I used it and found it was a very nice product. If you need conditioner bring your own, as it is not provided. The room was better than I expected. It was big, by French hotel standards, and had a large window that opened wide to let in the crisp fall air. The view overlooked a tree near the hotel entrance. The room was quiet all the time I was there. There is a small closet with a dozen clothes hangers. There was a tea kettle that boiled water in less than 60 seconds. I travel with my own coffee, but the hotel furnishes instant coffees (several types, including decaf and cappuccino), assorted teas, sugar, sugar substitutes and cookies. I had a double bed. It was very comfortable. The pillows were very good. There was a flat screen television. A small table (like those in hospital rooms, making it handy to move about the room) and chair and a desk. There were small nightstands next to each bed that had handy electrical outlets. It made it easy to charge my electronics. The hotel provides free Wifi and it worked well. I purchased the hotel's breakfast on two days of my stay. I enjoyed it very much. The breakfast room is large and has lots of tables and chairs. There was a large selection of breads: the Ardennes sweet bread with sugar topping, pancakes, waffles, crepes and French bread. Jams, butter, honey, Nutella and even maple syrup were provided. There is a machine that dispenses frozen yogurt. In a large glass cold cabinet you can choose yogurts, fruit compotes, and other dairy products. Cheeses, sliced deli meats, hard boiled eggs and cereals are also available. There is a coffee machine that dispenses several kinds of coffee (black coffee, cafe au last, cappuccino, even hot chocolate). A selection of black, green and herbal teas is available. All in all I was very happy at the Kyriad during my stay. The day staff spoke English. Everyone was welcoming and helpful. The hotel is located in a convenient area. The Place Ducale is only two blocks away. It is a lovely town and the hotel makes it easy to shop and sightsee. The only "con" was I wish the room had a small fridge, but this is uncommon in French hotels especially outside large cities.

We walked 20+ kilometers to Givet from Dinant, and were more than ready for a hot shower and a relaxing evening. What we got was a hotel that was closed. We were given keys and access codes via telephone, and found we were the only living souls in the place. Our room (the "famiy suite") was large and clean, if a little worn. There was a pot to boil water for tea, but no electrical outlets to plug it into...we figured it out. But when I ran the water for a shower... NO HOT WATER. And yes, we tried everything! I phoned the mystery voice, and was told there is nothing he can do to fix it. We used the teapot to heat water for a sponge-bath, but that's cold comfort when you've paid for a proper hotel room. We saw no one the following morning; there was no answer on the phone. No good.

You can't fault this hotel for location as it's within a 5 minute walk to the centre of town and the riverbank. It is very dated though. It's a typical French provincial hotel which was exactly what we were looking for but the access to our rooms were up the steepest stairs that we have encountered so totally unsuitable for anyone with walking difficulties. The room was comfortable enough and breakfast was the usual French fayre of coffee, cheese, bread and jam. The staff were helpful and friendly. Car parking is on the street which you have to pay for or there is a free car park about half a kilometer from the hotel which we used. It's a good base to explore the Ardennes.

Pros: Cheap Conveniently close to the motorway Cons: Not that close to the centre of town if walking Towels had a very musty smell suggesting they hadn’t been aired for awhile Initially given a room that needed cleaning (re: unmade & soiled bed; soiled plates etc) Décor of room makes you think of a slightly upmarket bordello Reception staff should be able to speak some English (definitely seem to be able to speak French & Flemish but Receptionist M was rather hesitant & truculent with it) Didn’t have breakfast so I can’t comment on this – there is an excellent bakery just down the road. Very nice croissants, pain au chocolat etc.

If you read the other review you already know that > Rooms are really nicely decorated BUT bathroom is having no privacy which is not ideal on a first date... or just if you like your own space.... Our room was rather small but really stylish not much space to store clothe or anything really... When we arrive we have been advise that housekeeper didn't turn up so most room weren"t available great for us at least it was really quite around us ! The SPA was close so no feedback here Breakfast was served in the room and was acceptable I saw a lot of comment about 13€ fees well most hotel in UK charge rather more and keep in mind it is France so yes it is not an English breakfast, my partner being English and told that NO eggs would be served as they run out was not ideal but no big drama The hotel is about 8 minutes walk from Place ducale and all bars and restaurants ! Overall the experience was good, I don't think I would stay for more than couple of days due to lack of armities in the room to feel a bit more like home but certainly recommand for short stay

Large double bedroom, large bathroom. Beds are very ok, staff is so nice and very very helpful. Breakfast is -of cource- french :- ) If you are early, you might have a parking place behind the hotel - if you are a good driver and you don't have too large a car.
