We knew that this accommodation would be a little more rustic than most of our other stays in Sri Lanka, as evidenced by the fact that we knew that we would have no internet here. That was actually a good thing to just get away from it all. We certainly felt disconnected and remote here. The rooms were super nice and comfortable, and we loved the outdoor bathroom. If I had my way, I would have an outdoor bathroom at every place we stay. The guiding here was good, and wish we had one more day to see more. There just wasn’t enough time to see everything we would have liked to. We went on a short evening walk around the area close to the lodge, and I took the night walk which was very interesting. Mostly insects, a few sleeping birds, and some lizards were out in the dark. We didn’t go that far, but there was so much to explore with the flashlight and headlamp. On our one full day, we drove early in the morning over to the reservoir, and had a very cool boat tour and lunch on a rocky island. This was extremely interesting, and we got to see elephants and crocodiles, though we didn’t see the elephants swimming in the lake like they are famous for. But it was a great day, and we just made it back to the vehicle just before the rains really started. The food here was good, though we weren’t as impressed as we were at some other lodges. But we didn't come for the food-- we came for the wildlife, which didn't disappoint.

Explorer by Mahoora in Kumana are located on the border of the National Park, allowing you the freedom of seeing everything that nature has to offer, in the shortest possible time. Kumana is renowned for its ample birdlife particularly waterfowl and wading birds. Since the park is adjacent to Yala National Park you can also observe mammals such as the Sri Lankan Leopard and Elephant within Kumana. To reach the park there are two routes you can take from Colombo and the distance is approximately 391 km. The mobile tents in the camp are designed according to the “pack in-pack out” concept, where camps are set up prior your arrival and dismantled upon your departure. Camps are equipped with luxurious facilities such as private bathroom, carpeted flooring, hot water, mosquito netting and even private patios. Rates are inclusive of entrance fees to the park and all other related charges for two days, cost of a jeep, beverages, lunches and dinners and fees for the expert naturalist guide.
We spent 4 days here as the second camp within the Mahoora tented campsites. Located by a quiet river on the edge of the park allowed us easy access to the wonderful sights and sounds of the park. With the mix of lagoons, woods and open areas the park delivered as a true wildlife experience with elephants and leopard sightings over the time in the park. Given the location we spent most of the day in the park with the evenings spent by the fire eating a wonderful array of sri lankan food. As we had our own guide our party were the only people in the camp increasing the feeling and experience of solitude and a real "wild" experoience.

Charitha Rest in Inginiyagala features a garden and a terrace. An Asian breakfast is served at the property. The area is popular for cycling, and bike rental is available at the guesthouse. Couples in particular like the location – they rated it 9.5 for a two-person trip. We speak your language!

Explorer by Mahoora is a highly unique and immersive experience of living with untamed Sri Lankan wildlife inside National Parks and Nature Reserves across the country. Our Private Tented Safari Camp Experience in Maduru Oya National Park is on the banks of Maduru Oya Reservoir. The property features mountain and lake views.
as our 3rd camp by Mahoora we were getting used to the set-up. However due to excess water we were relocated to the most stunning location by the side of the reservoir where kites and eagles swirled and fished in great numbers above us and the moon reflected off the water (we were there during full moon) creating an almost perfect isolated experience. AS witht he other camps with only 3 tents our party was alone and the park was quiet during the time we were there allowing extended views of elephants and increasing our bird count. Despite the camp being set-up in an area not normally used the staff did everything they could to make the location work and again the fire at night with accompanied oil lamps only enhanced the feeling of being away from things, and agin more wonders came out of the kitchen.

When you think of a holiday in Eastern part of the Sri Lanka, the first thing that comes to our mind is the gorgeous palm fringed beaches of Sri Lanka, the lush green tropical landscapes and the hospitality of the Sri Lankan people. Sea Breeze Hotel and Restaurant is a 12 room charming hotel by the Sainthamaruthu beach. Sainthamaruthu is the closest beach resort in the Kalmunai region Sri Lanka.

I was in communication with mahoora from April of 2021. I was given a price and a deposit was sent from the USA. When I arrived in Sri Lanka and a few days prior to our safari in December 2021, I was contacted by Thamalitha and told that foreigners pay a different fee. Thamalitha asked who holds a foreign passport and who has a local passport. This should have been something discussed from April of 2021. Especially since I was contacting her from the USA. I at no point knew this company had a separate price for foreigners because I was never told. We originally had 2 tents booked for December 2021. One double tent and 1 family tent. The price I was given originally was - 6500 LKR a person and a total of 26,000 LKR ( $130 ). This price was given in April of 2021. The price changed to 86,900 LKR + 151,600 LKR ( $430 + $750 ) when we told we had foreign passports. Not only did the price go from $130 total for 4 adults but it was a separate price per tent and went up to $1,180 total for 4 adults! Just days before we were suppose to go camping. Never once did it come up in a discussion that foreigners are charged a different price. Meanwhile Thamalitha knew very well I was contacting her from the USA. The price was such an extreme change that we were appalled. How could a price go up that much? We were basically days away from the safari / camping we had planned and were basically screwed. They even had the nerve to tell me they can keep the same price “if you have no any external appearance like foreigners” absolutely disgusting. What they did almost ruined our trip. Why do foreigners need to be ripped off? We were scrambling to find another camping/safari company. Luckily we wound up finding the most amazing company that charged us such a fair price and said they do not charge foreigners a different price. The price at the National park will only be a foreigner price because they have no control over that. Which was totally understandable. What Mahoora did was try and con us last minute till we couldn’t even find another safari or camping site and get stuck paying an astronomical price. What a awful business practice. There should be one set price for all. I highly recommend the company I wound up booking called Tibe Yala. Exceptional service!!!!Their communication was 1,2,3. Payment was easy and they camping/glamping ground is breathtaking. Most of all they didn’t try and con us. We will definitely visit there again soon!
