For the team of the Hotel Gerard and Francine in Nosy Be, Madagascar, reception is an art and you will be received with all of our attention, treated like family; for you we offer a comfortable atmosphere, our reputation for this style of work is irrefutable and has been for the last 25 years in Nosy Be. It is a charming establishment made of modern, cozy, clean guest rooms; snuggle up between the Crater cliffs, the long beach of Ambatoloaka and its lagoon. More than the charm of the hotel here is the charm of an extraordinary garden on one of the most beautiful beaches of the Indien Ocean where you can watch the sunset. It is on this beach, each day, that the Hotel Gerard & Francine was constructed in 1988 amongst the tropical flower gardens and the palms where we enjoy the company of freedom, lemurs, hummingbirds, chameleons. One particular area of attention is providing the decoration of your rooms, using typical Malagasy architecture, traditional construction with wood floors and creole ceilings. Suggested thoughts before your visit here: The sexual tourism is an attack on human dignity, condemned by Malagasy law and International law and the Hotel Gerard et Francine does not tolerate any such violations.
The garden at G&F is tremendous, and the breakfast offered yummy mango and pineapple jam. I had the impression the bill included breakfast, but the hotel applied extra charges at check-out. Also, the food was très French--heavy on the carbs. The bartender, Usa, makes an excellent mojito though. While most staff were friendly, my travel speaker was stolen out of my room when I went to the beach. Luckily, I used the hotel safe for other valuable items. The owner and manager were pretty ambivalent and dismissive of the loss which was quite disappointing. Theft has the tendency to make you paranoid and feel vulnerable. At the same time, even though the town had some excellent dining options, the village is absolutely overrun with older European men exploiting younger Malagasy women or to be honest, vice versa. If you are not into sex tourism (or some sort of related theme), you are an outlier in Ambotoloaka. I would highly suggest staying further up the western coast of the island and visiting the town for a nice meal.

The hotel it’s self is clean, the food is fine ( very boring menu and breakfast over priced but fine) and the bathrooms are lovely. The Malagasy staff who work there are also lovely especially Deno. The issue lies entirely with Eric the manager who is obnoxious, unwelcoming and inhospitable, and honestly that’s the nicest way to say it. We had noticed the fan in our room wasn’t working - this is advertised as air conditioning and is shocking even when it does work. We mentioned this to one of the staff before going out for the evening hoping it could be fixed. When we got back we asked if someone could come with us to look at the fan. Eric then decided to berated us saying it was far too late (8pm) to be raising problems, we were being extremely difficult and we can’t expect anything to be done if we refuse to speak French ( which is untrue we said the fan was broken in french ). He then proceeded to bring the person we had told the fan was broken into our room almost as if to prove we hadn’t asked. It was a horrible experience, he was extremely threatening and rude and racist towards the boy who we had asked to look at the fan. I highly recommend not staying here. There are loads of other lovely places to stay on the island and everyone else has been great.

I came here with my friends, the staff were friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived which made our stay lovely. Fresh delicious breakfast was included. Rooms were cool, comfortable and clean. And a beautiful pool. Thank you very much.

This place is Great! Each bungalow overlooks the sea and garden which is full of beautiful, colorful plants everywhere. South Madagasy land turtles roam freely throughout the property and are not afraid of people. A cat family also lives here as do wild birds who come and feed from the perch set outside the dining area. The sunset is beautiful with a wide arrangement of colors like a rainbow and can be seen from most rooms. The rooms have been renovated with strong water pressure, hot water on demand and huge clean bathrooms furnished with towels, toilet paper and soap, and buckets to wash clothes or gear. The rooms open up to the garden, each with a private porch and lounge chairs with a table. Lots of places to hang wet clothes. The sleeping area has NICE new mattresses with fitted mosquito nets, lots of shelves that provide ample space for your things, a table, chair and safe. Two electric sockets are provided and also a fan. Filtered water is available in the kitchen. Bring your own water bottle. The staff in incredible! They will help you with anything you need. They are all friendly and keep the places looking clean and good. A short walk to the main street, but far enough to get away from the noise. TIPS: Bring mosquito repellent and your own water bottle.

The Hotel Restaurant "Les Boucaniers", located in Ambatoloaka on the island of Nosy Be (Madagascar), is a small "Hotel de Charme" mixing Malagasy style with European comfort requirements. Of recent construction, it is nestled in a chest of lush greenery consisting of coconut, banana and mango trees frequented by friendly Makis, lizards and hummingbirds. The hotel, with its 17 rooms, the swimming pool and its own restaurant, overlooks the large white sandy beach of Ambatoloaka Bay, which can be reached on foot in less than 3 minutes. Its amzing location will allow you to enjoy a stay in an appeasing natural contest and join, whenever you want, the several shops, bars and lively nightclubs of the small fishing village of Ambatoloaka, a few hundred metres away.
This hotel is about a 30 second walk up a slope from the beach. When I first got there, I wished it was on the beach but actually it makes a really nice break from 'the strip' with all its bars etc and the view from the hotel is gorgeous. It's a small and friendly place, with a very helpful manager. We stayed there twice (either side of a liveaboard trip) so had two different rooms. There's a lot of woodwork/ wood panelling/wood floors in the rooms and a sizeable double bed. Not a huge amount of space around the bed but adequate for our two massive suitcases! The real charm of this hotel is it's jungle setting. You see lovely trees from the rooms, a great view out over Ambataloaka and - lemurs that swing by every afternoon! And it's small and cute. The food was pretty good too, although it does help if you speak French. We had no problems with the wifi when we were there. We had arranged to pay on card but on the day the connection was down so it was a bit of a faff to get the cash so I would say - be prepared to just pay cash, it will be much easier.
