The Society Hotel, built in 1881 by The Seaman’s Friends Society, was opened as a haven for sailors who came into port. We believe in making every traveler feel connected to our community so they are ready to enjoy our beautiful city. We offer three ways to experience our unique hotel: bunk rooms for the affordable community experience, private rooms with shared bathrooms for comfort without excess and suites for a bit of affordable luxury. All our rooms come with plush beds, 10-foot windows, high speed WiFi and a rooftop unlike any other. We also offer two ADA compliant rooms for guests requiring greater ease of access. Book your bunk, room or suite today and come be a part of the Portland experience.
In the neighborhood lots of homeless. Proximity of tram and bus is ok. ROOM The room was clean, simple. My room was pretty small, one could barely sit on the floor. My colleague had a more spacious room, they were really nice. SLEEPING I did not have trouble sleeping. The airco was on the loud side. But My room was on the back side of the hotel so no noise complaints form my side. SERVICE The people were very friendly. TOILET& Bathroom I took a room with shared bathroom. The bathroom was clean and spatious. Only remark there: The water pressure in the shower was much too low. This is probably for eco reasons, but it was so low that i took me much longer to wash my broad shoulders (lol). I think putting it this low is contra productive. Breakfast The breakfast was very limited (yoghurt or eggs if i remember correctly) and I did not feel very welcomed on a table that wasnt reallyu washed and my plate stuck to it. It had to do because it's also a BAR The bar is cosy. No idea on the price point. The bar also had a terrace on the roof of the hotel, which was a good place to sit when the sun was shining. WOULD I go again? It was my first time in the states, so for me the amount of homeless people surrounding the blocks of the hotel really was eye-opening. I'm quite convinced my wife would not dare to go outside of the hotel alone. But she's a scared one. Can the hotel help this? No. But they're doing a great job for hotel guests to give them a clean place to call home.

KEX, a design-focused social hotel, that began in Reykjavik, Iceland, is now open in Portland's Inner Southeast; walking distance from great restaurants, bars, stores, and coffee shops. Our hotel features private and shared rooms, an all-day restaurant, rooftop bar, sauna and regularly scheduled art and music events.
I was hesitant to book the shared bath room but honestly there were probably 7 bathrooms for 10 rooms and I never once had to wait for a bathroom nor did I encounter anyone on any trip to the bathroom. If you're hesitating, too, I'd say give it a go. The room was small (barely big enough for the bed!) but our travel style is to spend most of our time outside of the room, so it was perfect for us. We arrived a couple hours early and they made particular effort for housekeeping to focus on what would be our room first so we could check-in and get settled. Very friendly staff. The lobby is beautiful (unfortunately the bar/restaurant wasn't opened yet when we visited), walkable location, right on a major road so can get noisy from traffic, but overall a nice experience. AND SAUNA. Free sauna for guests, booked an hour at a time. A great way to start the day. Close enough to the bridge that we walked over to the Saturday Market. Sometimes the elevators seemed to not work, and several of the exterior doors were 'for guests only' but didn't seem to be operable from the outside. Chocolatier next door makes everything smell good.

We went for an afternoon of walking and eating, and walked too much and ate too much, but both were pleasant experiences. We did not make it past the "Pub" for lunch and had a spectacular 'old fashioned' at the Par 3 Bar, making this a perfect overall excursion.

Probably the friendliest place you'll ever stay in your life! Right from when we walked in for the first time, Jalet was welcoming and accommodating to every need! She even baked us fresh cookies one day! And don't get me started on the amenities. There were tons of different drinks and everything you need to make breakfast provided, along with any cooking utensil you would ever want. Even more spices than your average restaurant! There is also tons of stuff to read/do in the evening or on a rest day. And the riding around here will make you want to stay for a few days! We did 4 days of gravel riding and barely scratched the surface. We can't wait to go back for the riding, and to see Jalet who basically feels like family now! Keep up the great work Jalet!

Jana is the best host, and this place is lovely. This has that lovely front porch and is only two blocks from everything. A walk to Starbucks and Shakespeare is only five minutes. I like the neighborly feel of the place. I was able to go to Lithia Park in about ten minutes or less.

Ashland Commons has 3 units with a total of 8 bedrooms, 6 baths. Each has a kitchen with all appliances, cookware, etc. We are perfect for groups as well as individuals. Our commons areas also have futons and bunks for group stays. Homey, affordable, great views, walk to downtown and theaters. A/C, TV, off street parking, laundry, free WiFi access.
One mark pretty much says it all. (TripAdvisor will not take a review unless we put 200 characters in this section.) Ashland has a lot of places to stay--don't ruin your trip staying at Ashland Commons.

A unique, art-filled and friendly Hostel located in the Whiteaker, Eugene OR. Dormitory beds & private rooms available for travellers.
I was traveling on a MAJOR budget and this was the best bang for your buck when comparing the amenities and general location. I stayed for 4 days and 3 nights in a private room for some perspective on this review. AMENITIES - The free breakfast that is served in the mornings was SUPER helpful. Many AirBnB's don't offer free breakfast or even a kitchen, but this hostel does, and to top it off breakfast is served from the early morning to 10:45am, meaning you can sleep in til 10am and still have a complimentary breakfast. While I only had toast with jam topped with banana slices with a cup of coffee, it was more than enough to get my day started and save money that could now be spent towards lunch and dinner. If you really really really wanted to be budget friendly, you could walk 3-5 minutes down to a local grocery store and buy eggs and other breakfast foods as their kitchen is open to use as needed. LOCATION - What was perfect about the hostel is that it's within 5 minutes of a PeaceHealth Rides Social Bikes rack. I was able to skip multiple $8 to $12 Uber rides to Downtown Eugene by purchasing a monthly pass for $15 allowing me to get a free hour of biking per day (after the hour it is 10 cents per minute billed by the minute). I was able to explore so much of the downtown areas since the road is mostly flat and easy to ride, and with dozens and dozens of Social Bike racks placed at key areas of the city, it was a huge no brainer when it came down to costs. I easily could've used Uber for the 8 trips around town and spent $10 on each drive but I saved so much in just using the bikes. The Hostel is also located within 5 minutes walking distance from Slice Pizzeria, Willamette Artisan Pizza (literally right next door), a few bars and wineries, and a few Japanese and Chinese cuisine places. You can easily walk down to Slice to grab a bite and watch the nightly karaoke in their outside patio, have some Sake at Izakaya Meiji Co. and walk back to the hostel and enjoy the incredibly cozy atmosphere of the hostel. SERVICE - The owner was kind, welcoming and accommodating! I'm honestly in disbelief that some of the 1 Star reviews were mostly on the attitude of the owner. We had a good few conversations but most of my time in Eugene was spent exploring the city. I briefly ran into the other staff but they were mostly reserved and kept to themselves which is totally fine. OVERALL - Great location, great for your budget, book on their website! PHOTOS - Mostly of the surrounding spots near the hostel, all within biking distance!

Our small social hostel is centrally located with access to amazing nightlife, microbreweries, and food options. The hostel is a walking distance to Historic Mississippi, Alberta Arts, and Williams Districts; and has exceptional public transit connecting you to all of Portland. These neighborhoods are what makes Portland different from other cities that have nightlife only in the downtown area. Our friendly staff will help guide you in your Portland travel experience. Our small size sets us apart from the big hostel chains in Portland. We like to have fun but we are not a party hostel.
stayed at this hostel a while back. had a great experience! felt super comfortable and at home, right from the beginning, which isnt always the case going to a new hostel. literally like staying over at a friends house :) it was very clean and well run too, in a great and charming part of town. highly recommend it!
