We are looking forward welcoming you at Pakachere! Please make sure you book in advance to avoid disappointment! We only open half the lodge, because we want to guarantee that your bed has not been slept in for at least 24 hours. Of course we sanitise and clean the rooms after every visitor. We only accept a small amount of visitors, to keep physical distancing easy. Our lodge is a laid-back meeting point for international volunteers, locals, tourists and backpackers. We invite you to come and have dinner or a drink, spend the night in a tent, our dorm or a private room. In our common areas and our garden you will meet Malawians and people from all over the world traveling through Zomba! We offer Paka Tours; from guided walks up Zomba Plateau to airport transfers and trips to Mulanje, Liwonde, Cape Maclear or even as far as Nkhata Bay. Our local guide Isaac is a gem. He knows the area very well and can tell you all about nature on the mountain and the culture of Malawian people. The owners are happy to share their extensive knowledge of the country. If you are just arriving in Malawi, we offer a landing package with an airport transfer, information about the country (money/ATMs, transport, places to visit, dos & don'ts), a local SIM card & a Malawian G&T, soft drink or cold 'green' (beer) on arrival at our lodge. At the moment our restaurant is open every day from 7AM until 8PM.
We stayed in the largest en suite - loved it. Great welcome, gorgeous landscaping, art, food - I have zero bad to say, all good. Environmentally friendly, socially responsible, chill, comfortable, interesting, we would stay here again for sure.

Clean bedrooms with mosquito nets and a room fan. Very good food with big portions! Clean drinking water available for free, shower, flushing toilet. Has laundry services for cheap cost. Unfortunately lost power in the evening which sometimes results in losing running water. Overall, good stay

Bushman's Baobabs sits adjacent to Liwonde National Park. With 14 years of experience owning and operating lodges inside Liwonde National Park, owner Darren Bruessow strives to make his guests feel at home as he is within Liwonde's atmosphere. With a variety of game viewing opportunities and a range of prices, guests can enjoy the megafauna or birds of the area with knowledgable and experienced local guides. Note: During the rainy season from January 15 to Easter Friday, rates are reduced.
Bushmans Baobabs is just one of those incredible finds you can hardly believe actually exists. You get an absolutely luxurious game park experience at totally affordable prices. We cannot recommend it highly enough. Bushmans Baobabs is brilliant in all regards. Very cute tents and huts around the georgeous set of Baobabs inside the National Park! We stayed 2 nights experience very much enjoyed the outstanding food prepared by dedicared cook Noah, listening the sounds of the wildlife from the fantastic viewing deck and had a half day game drive with very knowledgable guide Paul, who also showed us the hippos and birds on the river boat ride. Bushmans viewing deck is an absolute gem, set a few metres above the ground, you can sit there watching the sunsets as you sip you beer and see the wildlife come for a drink at the waterhole, the Shire river glistening in the background. One of the best game park epxeriences I have had. The accommodation is fantastic, we stayed in one of the huts and we could not have asked for a nicer, more comfortable space. We stayed in one of the ensuite chalets and it was magical. There is only a curtain between you and the bush - which makes for an intense bush experience - but in the best way possible. And you can peek over the edge of the ourdoor shower to watch waterbuck, kudu and impala come past as they graze. The staff are very flexible with any needs, super friendly and really make sure you have the best experience. Bushmans Baobabs blew us away! (T & T from Germany and South Africa)

Your gateway to Malawi. We can arrange transfers to or from the airport as well as to town. Comfortable en-suite rooms, non-ensuite and dorms available for backpackers who like to stay somewhere clean, comfortable and affordable. Our competent staff can arrange trips and tours through Lilongwe or to our sister branch and the beautiful Cape Maclear.
After 1 month of traveling in Tanzania and Malawi this was our last stop before heading home and for me this lodge was the best out of all in Malawi. I was in the dorm which was very clean and spacious (2 nights I was on my own and the last night there was someone in my room), you can get warm showers, which was really nice. Piet is such a nice host who always tries to make you feel at home and you can ask him any question and he tries to find it out for you. Also the staff is just fantastic. Breakfast was very good and the dinner you can sign up was always delicious. It's not located that close to the city centre but with a local taxi or the minibus it's no problem to get to town. Be sure you can explain the way back because not every taxidriver can get you there by just telling the address ? So if you are looking for a safe and cozy place just stay at Thumbi View Lodge!! Thank you very much Piet and your staff for these wonderful last days in Malawi! We really enjoyed it! 100% recommended!!! Sabina

I stayed at Baobab multiple weekends during the six months I was living and working in Malawi. The space is absolutely beautiful. It was so relaxing to simply lie in a garden hammock reading a book or chat with other guests over some Carlsbergs in the outdoor bar. There is a shared kitchen that was always sparkling clean, and I was impressed with the hot water and WiFi (not always common at backpackers' spots in Malawi!). The staff was consistently friendly and helpful and happy to make recommendations for bars, restaurants, or other art/cultural events happening in the city. When I make it back to Malawi, Baobab will be the first place I stay!

My son and I stayed here and took a two-bed chalet with its own shower/toilet. The rooms are quite small but comfortable enough although the lighting is dim. Outlets for charging didn't work and the wifi was very spotty (You have to purchase air time), so we charged in the lounge. However, I can't complain because of the good value and safety (dorm and chalet rooms are behind a security door and face a private courtyard). I could leave my larger bag here (no charge) for a five-day trip out of town. The bar/restaurant is excellent - always a lot of staff to help. Good live music on Sundays.

Within crawling distance from shops, banks, and the legendary local market, our lodge is smacked down in the lively center of the capital city Lilongwe. Our new premises, set in a beautiful tropical garden, provide you a secure and peaceful retreat, away from the hustle and bustle of the everyday city life. Find yourself in a very relaxed atmosphere, have an ice cold drink in our cozy bamboo bar or wash the African dust of your body after a long travel with an amazing hot shower. The bar is famous with locals, expats and travelers for its live music evenings and daily happy hour. The restaurant offers some tasty local and international favorites at a great value for money. Mufasa Lilongwe provides a wide range of accommodation, from budget bunk-bed dorms, single bed dorms, private twins, private en-suite rooms with king-size bed or camp site. • Mosquito-netted beds,• Continental breakfast included (except for budget dorm),• High-speed Wi-fi connection,• Free all-day coffee and tea station,• Local and International Menu,• Airport pick up and drop off available,• Well-stocked bar,• Free luggage storage,• Safe for your valuables,• Laundry service,• Ample secure parking,• Tourist information point,• Office services available.
For this cheap price you should not expect a five star hotel, but I have experienced five star service. The owner, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was ok, the bed linnen was not brand new, but the mosquito nets were without holes. There are not many budget options in Lilongwe, and I have tried them all, but this one is my favourite. Why? This is real Malawi. No bunch of backpackers and craft work sellers all over the place, just Malawian hospitality. Location is good too. Room rates are including breakfast. Did not ask about wifi.

On the beautiful Island of Chizumulu you will find Tenayu Lodge. Sleep in our family house only 20 meters from the lake, choose a spacious room, chalets or perhaps put your tent inside our beautiful Baobaob tree? Eat, drink and relax on various spots facing the lake, enjoy the beauty of the Island and its people...
My husband and I visited this absolute jewel in Malawi. Crystal waters, sweeping views, unique lakeside bar and access. This is a destination for the bucket list in Malawi! Probably some of the clearest waters and most cichlids we've seen anywhere in Malawi. And definitely the most beautiful bar! A secluded yet well integrated community lodge and the only one on Chizumulu Island. The island is small and easy to hike and walk around in a day or two. Breakfast is included and the lodge is priced very fairly. The journey here may be long but the unique experience is worth it!

The backpackers is located right on the beach walking distance to the market. The beach is beautiful and long for a stroll. There is plenty of activity during the entire day with fishermen preparing the nets, bringing the fish and preparing to go to the lake, children playing on the water and everyone doing their laundry on the shore. But the best of all are the people there; from the owner (Captain Mufrasa) to the cook (Giz) and all the guys around helping. They made me feel at home from the very first moment. It's a very popular place during the weekends with locals coming from Lilongwe to enjoy the lake, so you will finally find a real local place full of warm hearted Malawians. I recommend it 100%!!
