PROS: Owner herself is kind, room was large, nearby area has restaurants and grocery stores, 10m walk to a nice beach and closet for good sunset viewing, pick up and drop off at port CONS: Our room was not located in the original space, and this was not indicated on Booking.com nor by the owner...until we were asked to get in the car again to be driven over to a different building, few minutes away. Not a big to deal, but surely you'd evolution that or that we should walk back in the morning for b breakfast? Nothing mentioned. The room says it has a kitchen, and there is a burner, microwave, kettle. However, no plates at all, two plastic cups (for cold drinks, not hot) and no utensils other than chopsticks. Breakfast was said to be American, but included only a piece of toast, Japanese salad Japanese pickles, with a mini hot dog. No egg options, despite the pictures posted. As an American, there was nothing American about this breakfast. Also says you can use their shower after checkout..but actually they charge. Nominal amount (¥300), but when you've paid ¥21,000/night for a VERY average stay and unimpressive breakfast, you feel nickel and dimed to pay for the shower that's already supposedly included. Overall, staff was not friendly (owner is the exception - very sweet). They seemed annoyed to help us, nor very helpful nor tried. Of course, the language barrier is our fault, but a) i speak a little and used it, didn't help much, b) they could use a translator app, which is what we and other girls have done, as b) you're a lodging establishment in a touristy island, there will be foreigners once in a while. It was not worth the cost for the standard room and I wished we'd stayed elsewhere of having to pay those rates.

We felt right at home and loved staying at the Yakushima South Village. Rooms are a good size, there are great shared facilities and great breakfast and dinner. Located in a nice quiet part of the island with lots of attractions and little cafes near by.

Just 10 min walk from Miyanoura Port, the gate to World Natural Heritage Yakushima Island. 3 min walk to bus stop for Shiratani Unsuikyo, Nagata beach, Yakusugi cedar land and more. The hostel is convenient and cozy with free Wi-Fi. Staff can help you in English.
Got in by plane: bus from airport to Miyanourako bus station is about 20-30 min. Easy trip, can't go wrong. From the bus stop a 5 min walk to the hostel. Supermarket nearby. Convenient starting point for various hikes, most notably the stunning Shiratani hike. Hostel is clean. Spacious rooms. The bath is perfect for having a soak after a long hike. Nice outside area, kitchen and common room. Owner is a gem! He provides you with the best recommendations on hiking, but also restaurants (also one not listed on online maps) and even dishes (some of the best food I've eaten in Japan!). Thanks for having us!

Convenient location in Anbo, right next to bus stop, which also means a shorter bus ride to Yakusugi Land. A few decent restaurants in town; 10-minute walk to supermarket and tourist information center. Modern showers. Dorms are separated by walls and bunk beds have curtains for privacy. We were only 3 guests on the busiest night I was there, which meant the place was very quiet. Very clean place. Only kitchen facility are a tiny fridge and a microwave. Smell of drain in toilets. Walls separating the dorms don't go all the way up to the ceiling, which means you can hear absolutely everything going around in the entire place (could be a problem on a crowded night). No English spoken, but that wasn't a problem.

I spent a few days resting in this hostel. The staff does not speak well English but the food is very good and the location is perfect. Beds and dorms are really basic, but I liked the calm mood. I traveld easily from there to the sand bath (just in front), but also the bus to the flower park and the cape and to the port to go to Yakushima island.
