Our refugio is a very special place in the middle of the mountains, surrounded by lots of green. We are located just 15 minutes from the Historical Center of Ibarra, a 0.30 USDbus or a 4 USD taxi ride away. From our refugio you can go on ecological trecks by yourself close to the hostel or join hikes organized by us. We are the starting point for many different hiking routes in the region and we can offer you a multitude of options. However, our main destinations are Imbabura just behind the house and the symbol of our region Imbabura (8-10 hours), Lago Cubilche (4-5 hours), La Routa de los Karanquis (8-10 hours), The Three-Waterfall-Trek (4-5 hours), The Hidden Thermal Baths (8-10 hours) and many more! With us you also have the opportunity to learn how to make traditional leather crafts, we would love to help you to make your own souvenir! In the evening you can have a cozy time by the fire and learn how to dance "San Juan", a typical dance with sombreros and ponchos.
This place is definetly a "refugio" and was the perfect stay for my hike to the Imbabura the next day. It feels really comfy with the chimney and the whole interior design. The owner Emerson really cares about his guests and gives a lot of important recommendations for hikes or other trips and does everything to offer you a nice stay.

We rented a beautiful private cabin at El Tio Hostal. Tio and his family were extremely warm and welcoming. The farm is lovely and peaceful. You can relax in hammocks, explore the farm or walk over to the town of Iluman in minutes. You can get a delicious breakfast or a home cooked meal for an extra fee. Tio showed us the crops grown on the farm, and taught us about certain indiginous medicinal plants. I would highly recommend staying at this hostel.

This hotel was recommended by our guide and we can pass along the confirmation to others looking for a place to stay. We stayed here just 2 nights and were on the go all day sightseeing in the area so the El Geranio was a welcome rest stop each evening. We did our reservation online through Booking.com and paid just $90 for our 2 nights in a nice room at the far end of the building with a small private patio for our evening wine! We would be amiss if we didn't mention to any traveler to the area there is a wealth of things to see and do in this area. We enjoyed a tour of a rose farm in Cayambe, shopping in the leather stores of Cotacachi, and a wonderful tour of national artist Luis Potosi woodcarving gallery in San Antonio de Ibarra. The staff at the front desk and in the kitchen making breakfast were very friendly, as the case with just about everybody we encountered in Ecuador. You will notice attention to detail and we thought the courtyard was well tended and the place very neat and clean so a tip of the hat to the Owners and staff!

Hosteria Rose Cottage is by far my favorite hostel I have ever visited! The staff was so incredibly sweet and immediately made us feel like family. The stunning views and quiet atmosphere was a welcome break in my month long trip across Ecuador with some rather noisy hostels in other cities. I adored the animals around, especially Prince Charming the llama! The staff will even give you a free ride down to the Otavalo Saturday market. I can’t wait to go back!

What a special place! Very well located, nicely decorated, very clean. A warm environment where the traveller will really feel at home. Johnathan is such a great host and he’ll take good care of you. Stayed for three days. Would’ve stayed longer but had to carry on with my bike trip around Ecuador. Hope to be back next year

Otavalo is a town in the Andean highlands in the Imbabura province of northern Ecuador. It’s surrounded by volcanoes including the Imbabura Volcano. It's known for its Otavalo Market in the central Plaza de Ponchos, where traditionally clad indigenous townspeople sell colorful textiles and handicrafts. Nearby, the Tejidos El Obraje Museum has textile exhibits and weaving demonstrations.

Beatiful colonial style building Great overview over Otavalo,Imbabura and Cotacachi. Pesonalized service. 15 minutes walk from the famous indigenous market. Nice restaurant Conference room.
Great owners and staff... Jose, Matilde, Joselito etc were so hospitable and helpful. They have amazing stories to tell and great knowledge of the area. Lots of day trips to choose from- go to the bird predator sanctuary and Lechero. so many hikes to choose from, go to the lagoon, climb a volcano. Priceless views from the hostal, good breakfast and convenient. Such an inexpensive place to stay. Walk to the city is 10-15 minutes or easy $1-$2 taxi. You might hear some roosters and dogs barking fyi- you are not in Quito in the big city. I will be coming back and would certainly stay again.

I really liked this bijout of a hotel. So glad we found it. It is so cute and cosy, exactly like in the pictures. The owner / manager is extremely friendly and we were even allowed to check in earlier since we got off the night bus and didn't know what to do. She also let us check out late. The restaurant which is in the same building is great as well. The prices are absolutely fair! It is clean and the location is perfect if you want to head to the market. Will definitely stay there again when I'm back in Otavalo.
