Peaceful stay with great views and staff

Reviewed By Chris W

I stayed here with a tour group. We stayed in the rondavels which were basic, however all were en-suite, with ceiling fans and very clean and comfortable. The views were fantastic and very quiet. The rondavels were in the field above the main building so it was a two minute walk to the lounge, kitchen, pool and games/bar area. A security fence around the grounds made it safe and secure, however you can walk out during the day if you wish. A short walk takes you to the main reception and camp were there is a restaurant, bar, live entertainment and small shop. You can also take one of the walks into the park from there. A minibus is provided at night. There is a kitchen if you wanted to cook your own food or write your name to have dinner cooked for you by the wonderful staff. Most of the food is cooked on an open fire/Brai and you can sit around the fire enjoying the scenery and chat. A wonderful experience, all the staff are fantastic and the food is really good and plentiful. A magical stay which will stay with me for a long time. Thank you.

Overall good impression despite current renovation

Reviewed By jdz863

Currently Sundowners is undergoing renovation and hence the restaurant was not available. I had the chance to book a unit with double bed for myself and my daughter (4) during this period. All was clean and very convenient. Especially the staff is very helpfull and thoughtfull. I can recommend the Sundowners and it will be even a better experience, if the restaurant is operational as Matsapha Shopping Centre is around 7 Km away. I have been told, they make the best pizza. Something to look forward. If you require Wifi-Internet connection, this only works in the lounge and is very slow. No connection to the rooms. But not a concern, if you do not require permanent connectivity. What would be a nice consideration is a playground for children. But then I trust the main clientiele are backpackers and they do not use the playground. I would recommend Sundowners as well for business travellers. Especially if you are out during the day and only need a basic room and bed for the night.

Nice place, bad experience

Reviewed By DanmarkPower

Three people had cash disappear from their rooms. One stayed in a dorm, two stayed in a private. The manager at first seemed unwilling to do something about this. Without doubt, the staff had stolen the money. They were the one's who had the keys to enter the private room after the guests left. I had food disappear from the fridge. Probably also the staff. Aside from this it was ok. Not too good but since there aren't any options I guess this is the place to go in Mbabane. I would rather stay in one of the other hostels in the countryside though, both as they are better and are located in nicer areas. If I had to stay in Mbabane with a friend, I would rather just get a double room at a low budget hotel.

Nyanza Farm

Animal Lover's Paradise

Reviewed By Catherine P

This was my second stay at Nyanza farm guest cottages and it was even more relaxing than the last. The rustic cottages provide the perfect venue for a peaceful group or family weekend away. The rooms are all spacious, bright and airy, and the kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering. Additional beds can be requested to accommodate extra guests. The veranda is the perfect place to enjoy the country surroundings and watch the birds. The farm itself is an absolute delight for animal lovers. There is a horse stables, a herd of dairy cows, and all manner of rescued creatures great and small. The owners do great work hosting school groups and encouraging children to develop empathy for animals. The farm itself is perfectly located for exploring the stunning Ezulwini valley: just around the corner from Mlilwane wildlife sanctuary, the swazi candles craft complex and Malandela's. I would certainly recommend this magical place and hope to be back again.

Sobantu Guest Farm

Sobantu Guest Farm has comfortable double rooms, a DTSV lounge with fire place, very warm dormitories or brandnew Swazi beehives/rondavels as accommodation. Different traditional but modern Rondavels let you enjoy your own privacy. There are several small camping areas for tents. The views from the double rooms are exceptional and diverse. The self-catering kitchen allows you to cook with a view. Try your hand at milling your own mealie meal for the Swazi porridge with our hand mill, we will teach you to cook it the Swazi way. Cook potjieskos on open fire with cast iron three legged pots and braai your meat and vegetables on the hot coals. We prepare meals for you on request only. When available our venison potjieskos shouldn't be missed. Swaziland keeps surprising everyone and no-where more than in the Mnyokane and Maguga Dam region where Sobantu Guest Farm is located. The farm on which this new tourism project is situated was initially acquired for mostly environmental and residential reasons. A family project which soon developed into a full fledged budget tourism venue, where the visitor, at very affordable rates, can enjoy deep rural Swaziland outdoor life as never before. Bird watching is great in and around our indigenous forest, which contours our mountain. Catch the small mammals, like rockdassies at their daily chores. Climb our mountain and see Pigg's Peak/ Maphalaleni / skyline of Siteki / Mnyokane Valley...Hike in any direction and meet only friendly Swazis who will want to know about where you come from, why you are visiting Swaziland. Some will want to feed you. Sobantu stands out as a landmark so you can't get lost even if you hike 15km away. Every mountain pass crossing will strike you with new views on pristine Swazi landscapes. Take a mountain bike if you want to do it faster and test your biking skills. Canoes are the topping of the cake, half-full day or overnight canoe tours on the Maguga and Hawane Dams which are bound to become one of these once in a lifetime experiences. The Nkomati Valley flooded to become the Maguga Dam stands out as one of the most beautiful valleys in Southern Africa. Hawane dam is a bird breeding spot for the Malolotja Nature Reserve. Stop for a picnic and paddle back to where we will pick you up at the agreed time or camp overnight at a friendly homestead halfway the length of the Dam and enjoy the local specialities, like wild spinach, pumpkin leaves cooked to perfection with the Swazi staple food, the mealie porridge.

Worth checking out!

I loved my stay at Sobantu guest farm. The staff are friendly and so kind. The place boasts a fully licensed bar, a restaurant and all the amenities a family would need, with even DSTV and WiFi. You can arrange all sorts of activities through the managers. Afternoons look like rolling continuous mountains, an ice cold Sibebe beer on the porch in pure peaceful serenity. Maguga dam, mololotsha, and Mbabane are close by. I will definitely be heading back!

Accomodation in the countryside

The place is beautiful, with typical African bungalows. It is located in the nature, even if it is just 10 minutes from the city center. The staff is really nice and helpful. It is just 3 km away from the Sibebe rock, one of the main natural attractions in the country. I highly recommend it.

Awesome place

Reviewed By SakhileNdlalane

This is a breath taking place, nestled at the top of Mount Mdzimba in Ezulwini Eswatini. At first i felt i was getting lost as i kept climbing the mountain road. But as soon as i reached the top, it was like I've arrived into heaven. The air is rich and fresh. The accommodation, houses are spaces apart, ensuring more privacy. The host is super friendly and always willing to help. The rooms are clean, the internet is fast, the showers are clean. They even have a bidet for those that prefer to clean up after using the bathroom. I really enjoyed my stay. I would recommend this place, but i would not advise on driving up the mountain at night, especially after 8 pm because of the altitude, it is prone to fog, and poor visibility on the road and makes it more dangerous if you are not used to such conditions.
