Very good hostel. They know what a traveler want and that's all what we need. The receptionist is very helpful, can arrange with them for taxi. Info given by them is very clear and accurate, honestly that's all we need as a tourist.

I went two times to Xiang Ge Li La, and both times I took a bed in the dorm at the International Youth Hostel. The hostel has a great living room with a fire place. Especially during the winter months it is very comfortable to sit down here. The staff is very helpful and sociable. They can only speak a little bit English, so it provided me a good opportunity to practice Mandarin. This living room is great for meeting fellow travelers and sharing traveling experiences. All information you need you can ask the staff, information about bus departing times they can provide instantly. Great service. The dorm room itself is basic and pretty crammed. When all beds are taken, the room will be packed with bags and the air will become a little bit musty. Nevertheless, it is still great value for money. The rooms include wifi and closets where you can store your valuable belongings. Don't forget to bring your own lock for the closets though. The hostel has big communal bathrooms and toilets. The shower rooms are pretty clean. The water is hot, just the way you want it in winter time. Unfortunately it will take about 5 minutes before hot water from the boiler reaches the shower, so a lot of water is wasted. The toilets are Chinese-style, so get used to greeting your neighbor while taking a dump. The location of the hostel is convenient, if you don't mind making a little walk. It is approximately in between the old city centre Dukezong and the Bus terminal, from where you can take buses to Lijiang and Deqin (from where you can go to Yubeng). I definitely recommend this place to budget travelers.

This part of the city is being renovated, tearing down the old and making new with an old look. It is sad really. This hotel is old. And it shows. Positives: Location, shuttle service to airport (see stipulations), staff is friendly, unique in style. Negatives: Before I list the negatives, let me say that we were more let down by the area of Shangri-La. And, the negatives are not really as bad as they may seem. But, I want to be informative to anyone seeking this hotel. 1. Our first day, the hotel driver charged us 50 rmb to go 2-3 times farther than the 60 rmb he tried to charge the following day. It is all about money here. 2. No room cleaning during our stay. The beds were never made, towels replaced, or trash taken out...all the while the staff played on their phones throughout the day. 3. Every door stuck. In fact, the bathroom door had to be shouldered to open more than a third of the way. 4. If you love rock hard beds, this is the place for you. 5. There was no amenities offered, other than mosquito burners. No bottled water. 6. Water pressure is poor. But, that might be from the poor infrastructure of the area. No hot water in the vanity sink. 7. Sitting on the toilet seat was always an adventure since it slid with every move you made. Not attached. 8. You had best be a sound sleeper. Cars can be heard constantly, along with voices. Among other sounds...as you might imagine. The price is not the best, considering how little they offer you. And, as the area is being renovated and rebuilt, there must be better accommodations for people at the same price. My rating of average for this property might be a little generous.

SHANGRILA TIBETAN FAMILY INN is a small hotel in the city. we only have 15 standard rooms and 8 king size bed rooms. The architecture style of our hotel is authentic locally like a private house. the whole building was built with wood and decorated with wonderful wood carving .It’s located between local Tibetan residences, with very good location and peaceful environment. 10 minutes driving to the airport and bus station, 5 minutes walking to the centre of the old town. We always do our best to provide all kinds of services which you required for your stay and trip. While you stay with us you can really experience local Tibetan people’s life style, understand Tibetan people’s religion (Tibetan Buddhism ).on the top of the hotel(4# floor) we have a stunning city view terrace which is our restaurant, while you are enjoying the traditional local food( yak meat hot pot; yak butter tea; zanba; barley wine; salted pork meat; yogurt; cheese ) you still can enjoy the wonderful city view.
This establishment was acquired by the present owner in March 2012. It has potential but there is quite a bit of work needed to get it upto standard. The main benefit of this establishment to western guests is that the owner, Mr Stone, is a former tour guide and speaks good English (as does his colleague Jacky). Depending on his other commitments he may even be able to offer his own services as guide/driver, or will be very happy to advise if not. The inn is also very conveniently located just outside the old town, which can easily be walked to in 10 mins. We stayed three nights so feel we got the measure of the place, and breakfast huddled around the central stove seemed rather hit and miss at the best of times. Finally there is a lot of cigarette smoke which was unbearable at times.

Ok, place is not little but it is definitely cool. We rented a room instead of a bunk and it was pretty cheap. We had two meals there and they were delicious. Make sure you don't miss the sunrise in Fei Lai si.

During low season, this is the hostel with the most guests. If you want to make friends and find a ride to the start of the hiking trail, you should stay at this place! They offer hotpot dinner for 30 RMB, which is quite convenient and decent, considering everything else in this town is more expensive.
The Puppet Inn caters mainly to backpackers and our dormitory rooms are very clean and tidy. For those who would like more privacy, we have a twin-sharing room and a family room, each with attached private bathroom. Our dormitory rooms come with 2, 4 or 6 beds. The common areas are bright and cheery and come equipped with board games for your entertainment. Our Wi-Fi is strong and consistent.

We stayed there for 2 nights. Since first, they have staff picking our bags to hotel. Hotel is located in the old city area so you can walk around in reachable distance. Our trip was in wintertime so it’s really cold upthere. Tibetan-style building was not well warm inside but they gave us electric blanket so I can sleep all night warmly in bed. Staff was very active and friendly, promtly gave advices I wanted to know.

Close to Diqing Shangri-La Airport, Desti Youth Park is converted from a traditional Tibetan dwelling and surrounded by vast prairie. Well fitted with various entertaining facilities, the setting boasts comfortable accommodation. With typical Tibetan touches, each of the rooms are cleanly arranged and abundant in natural light. Slippers are offered in the bathroom.
I absolutely adored the Desti Youth Park. It has friendly staff and even friendlier Golden Retrievers to greet you. The room style has a rustic charm and the cafe is adorably quaint as well. They have a little auditorium and they were playing My Neighbor Totoro on a projector when I arrived. They were also very wonderful helping get to nearby attractions. All in all a great stay.
