KwaZulu-Natal (/kwɑːˌzuːluː nəˈtɑːl/; also referred to as KZN and known as "the garden province") is a province of South Africa that was created in 1994 when the Zulu bantustan of KwaZulu ("Place of the Zulu" in Zulu) and Natal Province were merged. It is located in the southeast of the country, enjoying a long shoreline beside the Indian Ocean and sharing borders with three other provinces and the countries of Mozambique, Swaziland and Lesotho. Its capital is Pietermaritzburg and its largest city is Durban. It is the 2nd most populous province in South Africa, with slightly fewer residents than Gauteng.

We are a Horseback Safari Company operating in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park in Zululand, South Africa. This is an incredible corner of Africa, so fantastic it is a classified UNESCO World Heritage Area. The Park covers a mosaic of land forms that have created a vast array of biomes to support a very wide variety of animals, plants and birds. We have the highest bird count in all of Africa, the southern-most breeding spots for turtles in Africa, Africa's tallest forested dunes, the largest remaining stands of sand forest, the biggest peat beds in the Southern Hemisphere and vast wetlands.... and all of this runs alongside 220 kilometers of pristine beaches and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, where turtles nest, whales often pass on their way to breed just a little further north in Mozambique and dolphins play in the surf.
We had a morning beach ride with Bhangazi Horse Safaris arranged for us by Ndiza Lodge. We were a group of about 8 riders with two guides. The horses were in very good condition and we were very well looked after. The saddles and helmets provided were also immaculate. As our group was of mixed riding ability, we split up at some point so everyone was happy. A great outing!!

Stormy Hill is Caroline's home on the edge of the Drakensberg escarpment where horses and hounds flourish. Here, guests are entertained to a lifestyle experience constituting an introduction to the horses of the hill and a guided ride in the surrounding areas. Explore the local countryside on horse back and generally let yourself get away from the hustle and bustle of your daily life. All our horses are well-tempered and each has its own personality, which is taken into account when matching horse to rider.
What a great horse riding experience for us as novices! First time for my husband and I doing a trail ride together and it was absolutely lovely. Caroline really does take the time to help you understand and feel comfortable on the horse and trail, and she is most welcoming and very friendly. We spent one night in the cottage/house on our way back to JHB, and the accommodation had everything we needed for a comfortable and super relaxing stay - the almost panoramic views from inside the lounge was also a pleasure to get up to in the morning. Thank you Caroline!

As a family of four, we only had a night to get away and wanted to test our camping skills out. We hadn't planned to do a ride, though Jordan, our friendly host assured us as novice riders that the Sunset Ride came highly recommended. She wasn't wrong. It truly was a magical experience! The sweet, sure footed horses and excellent guides made the whole adventure feel exciting and challenging yet our comfort and safety was accounted for. The panoramic views of the valleys and Underberg Mountains completed the experience. Watching the sunset atop a horse in a vast open space does wonders for the soul.

My husband, myself and our two children enjoyed the most wonderful 2hr outride with Ushaka. The horses were well looked after and the guides were experienced. We saw beautiful sights, dismounting at the top of a hill to take in the beauty of the mountains around us. We saw amazing birds of prey and even an owl protecting her nest. We so enjoyed the experience, I went back a week later with my sister, enjoying another exciting outride. I highly recommend Ushaka Horse Trails and the capable couple that run it.
