Top 10 Hop-On Hop-Off Tours in Yucatan Peninsula, Yucatan Peninsula

May 30, 2021 Giuseppe Pratt

Hidden gems of Yucatan, such as Tulum, Akumal, Chetumal, Chichen Itza and Merida, offer an authentic taste of Mexico. Akumal and more Caribbean-style Chetumal, near the Belize border, deliver delectable white-sand beaches and great snorkelling. Merida, Chichen Itza and Tulum, with their ancient ruins, offer a passage into the Yucatanâs native history. Nature lovers can jungle trek and swim in subterranean sinkholes filled with crystal-clear water. Bike around the ruins and hop between towns in colectivo vans.

My boyfriend and I booked the snorkel and cenote tour with Ujajil Tours and it was my favorite day while visiting Tulum. Pablo and George were extremely friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating on the 4.5 hour tour (perfect amount of time to see the ruins, snorkel, and visit Grand Cenote), and we had an absolute blast. We got the ruins early so it wasn't crowded, and Pablo filled us in on the history of Tulum and the ruins which was great. We saw sea turtles, sting rays and beautiful fish while snorkeling, and Grand Cenote was just stunning. I highly recommend this tour, and would book Ujajil for another experience any time I return!

Pablo was my guide on a private tour to Coba and Ek Balam at the end of my trip to Playa del Carmen. The entire day was an unforgettable experience and I was treated like a VIP the whole way. Pablo has such a passion for Mayan history - I learned a lot from him about archeology and culture on this trip. We started very early - 6 am - but this was the right call. We arrived at Coba before anyone else and had the place to ourselves in the cool air of the morning. Then we went to cenote Hubiku - a fantastic place! - ahead of the crowd. I had the chance to swim for at least 20 minutes in peace before a large group arrived. After that we had a delicious and filling lunch at the restaurant, also before the crowd arrived. The last stop of the day was at Ek Balam, which I loved. We managed to climb all of the temples and finish the tour just as the sun was getting really unbearable. When we got back to the car there were chilled towels and cold water waiting for us. Amazing! I highly recommend Ujajil Tours. This is a local, family company that really cares about their clients and about the cultural sites. Great value.

The positives - the tour guide was very educated and informative. The Chichen Itza ruins are definitely worth seeing at least once if given the opportunity. The negatives - there was a bit of pressure to purchase the Mayan calendar and other goods from the tour guide. The buffet food was surprisingly bland considering it was made by the native Mayan people. Also the tour was super long. I was picked up from my hotel in Playa del Carmen at 7am and didn’t get back until 9pm.

This is a fantastic agency organizing amazing tours to see the luminescence and mangroves in an ecoway (canoe and swimming). The guides are great particularly Ivan that is very knowledgeable on the mangrove environment and will go out of his way to show you its treasure. Don't miss your opportunity to see the endangered and prehistoric Atlantic horseshoe crab (or at least its shells) that is threatened now by the disapearance of the mangroves due to touristic/urban development but mostly because they are used as bait for octopus fishing. So if you can do one small action to protect it, is to ban octopus from your menu while in Mexico. Carlos the manager will go all his way to accomodate your need and prepare your trip well in advance. You shouldn't miss it.

Thank you to AXG Travel for such an amazing experience!!! Our family and friends had the best day. We had a group of 30 that went on this excursion and for the price it was well worth it, food, drinks and music were included. The snorkeling was great with lots of beautiful fish. We stopped at the beautiful Isla mujeres were there was so much to do, some of us went shopping others went to the ruins on that island and others, like myself, laid back and went to the beach (playa Norte) and got a 30 minute massages for 30 bucks. Massages there go for $1 a minute which was fantastic. The crew was great and made us feel comfortable and safe. We will definitely do this one again!!
