The site of the Slate Museum Haut-Martelange is unique in its form in Europe as it reflects a complete image of the Luxembourg slate industry and its more than 200 years old history of extraction. The working sheds, the underground mines, the house of administration, the owners residence with hunting lodge and park, the miners houses are major elements of the 8ha site. Guided tours will help you to discover the world of slate, its extraction, it's splitting and drilling as well as the working conditions of the quarrymen. The museum is open from April to October. Guided tours for groups are organized upon request. Every first Sunday of the month and every Wednesday and Sunday in the months of July and August at 3pm an organized tour takes place.

We went here because we were already at the MUDAM, and didn't really expect much, but found it fascinating. Seeing the actual royally signed ratification documents of the treaty creating Luxembourg as an independent country was really cool! And the film of the Grand Duke's brother being interviewed was more interesting than most of the exhibits, and a real lesson in history - take a few minutes to watch!
