BÆRUMS VERK In 1610, Paul Smelter was given the King’s commission to set up a melting house, and the first smelting furnace in the country was built here. During the ironwork’s heyday, everything from cannon balls and cannons to bar iron were produced. Later items, such as ovens, hardware and machine parts gradually became the mainstays of production. Amongst others, Bærums Verk was owned by Norwegians first Prime Minister, Peder Anker, and the Works proved quite important for Norway during the Nordic war. Today we welcome you to these unique surroundings from the 1600’s industrial era. We offer you about 50 shops, craftsmen, workshops, galleries and eating establishments. Shopping, craftsmanship, history and culture are intertwined to give you exciting cultural and social experiences. Fetsund lenser Experience the national cultural heritage site of the only timber boom facility in Norway. Learn about the work and life of the once largest industries in Norway’s history. Situated outside Fetsund in the river Glomma, the facility spans 2.5 km with exhibits and historical buildings spread across. With full access to the water based facility you have the option of “walking on water” on the floating paths used by thousands every year. Wetlands visitor center Nordre Øyeren Situated in near vicinity to Fetsund lenser and the nature reserve Nordre Øyeren, the wetland visitor center offers exciting and family friendly exhibits and activities about the local fauna and flora. Oscarsborg museum offers exhibitions and guided tours all year around. It is located in the main Fortress at Oscarsborg, which played a key role during the nazist's invasion on April 9th 1940. Today Oscarsborg is a popular destination for families and others, due to the history, the beautiful scenery, art galleries, restaurants, concerts and the close location to the nice little city Drøbak.
See the movie "The Kings choice" or in Norwegian / Danish "Kongens Nei/nej" and you will know the story from the 9th of april 1940, when the fortress sunk the big german cruiser "Blücher" with the fortresses ancient guns and torpedoes. So interesting
