There are 32 islands and cays that make up St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). Nine are inhabited, including the mainland St. Vincent and the Grenadines islands: Young Island, Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Union Island, Mayreau, Petit St Vincent and Palm Island. The stunning Tobago Cays National Marine Park is also located within SVG. This multi-island Caribbean nation offers a combination of rainforest eco-adventures, scuba diving, classic Caribbean powder-white sand beaches, luxury accommodation and yachting or sailing adventures.

Our guide and driver, a very careful, thoughtful and capable driver, had a spotless, new and well cared for vehicle (with air conditioning) and clearly knew her stuff. Greta Mapp had others booked, and had gone to considerable expense to make a 60 yr old persons birthday, a day to enjoy. She had been patiently waiting - and she is a lovely patient lady- for the couple, who then claimed they hadn't seen her, and didn't think of phoning her until after midday to cancel. Our gain (was their loss, and they will never know what they missed out on) was that we were taken to fantastic fort with views over the bay, then across to roughly the area where Mesopotamia begins then down to the coast through plantations to a couple of pretty coastal sites, including a marina. Greta had purchased cake, champagne, beer and watermelon for those celebrating, so in her generous way shared some of these items. She kept to her schedule and all times gave brief informative updates. Highly recommended, and Greta was an example of how islanders who live from tourism, need to be respected.

Fort Charlotte- Whoever said history wasn’t enjoyable, clearly, have never visited Fort Charlotte. The Fort built by the British in 1806, during the reigns of King George III and derives its name from his wife "Charlotte". It stood as a means of defense against the local Caribs Indians and the French and is 600 ft above the sea level giving a stunning view across capital Kingstown and down the Grenadines. Presently, the some parts of the facility is managed by the Port Authority, housing a signal station and light house. There are interesting paintings, by Linsay Prescott, a local artiste, in what used to be officers’ quarters, depicting the life of the Black Caribs. A trip to the Fort is a walk through history. Facilities includes information booth, parking, washrooms, signal station and lighthouse. The other stops on this tour are as follows: Botanical Gardens, Roman Catholic Cathedral and Anglican Cathedral along with the Central vegetable and Fish market.
Inclusions: Complimentary photos, Device charging (phone or tablets), Free wifi-onboard, Hiking Stick, Hotel/port pickup and drop-off, Professional local guide, Transport by air-conditioned minivan, Alcoholic Beverages, Bottled water, Snacks

Blackpoint Recreational Park- This area comes as a two-in-one package as it is not only a recreational park, but a history lesson as well. It’s the sand that first gets your attention. It’s a black carpet wonderland with glistening organic grains. Mammoth waves crash slowly onto shore, their foamy tops trying desperately to whiten the black but the endless cycle is always in vain. On site at the park is the infamous Jasper Tunnel, 300 feet in length, built in 1812, using slave labour, as an easier means of transporting sugar to the coast. Peek over lava rocks to see where ships anchor to collect their sweet cargo. Facilities include a children’s play area, parking, gazebos, washrooms, barbecue pits, welcome booth and playing field. The other stops on this tour are as follows: Belmont Look-out, Mesopotamia Valley, Georgetown and Rabacca Dry River.
Inclusions: Air-conditioned transportation, Complimentary photos, Complimentary rum-punch, Device charging (phone or tablets), Free wifi-onboard, Professional local guide, Tropical fruits, Alcoholic Beverages, Bottled water, Snacks

We have visited St Vincent previously and were looking for something different to see on this visit. We were visiting via cruise ship and Samuel was waiting for us just outside the terminal building. His van was comfortable with AC, although in the end opted for opening the windows for a natural breeze. I contacted Samuel directly and he was very prompt and responsive in answering all my queries. The tour was very interesting with Samuel being a great guide and also serves an amazing rum punch! Would highly recommend a tour with Detention tours.

The set of the Pirates of the Caribbean (Walliabou)- This site is the actual set for Port Royal of the infamous movie, “Pirates of the Caribbean”. Watching or hearing about the movie is one thing, experiencing it is another! There is an abundance of props and costumes remaining onsite so one can dress up and look like a real life pirate. There are lots of photos and shooting schedule from the movie that was done in 2002 (part#1) and 2005 (part #2 & #3). If you haven’t already seen the movie, that is definitely going to change after this visit. The other stops on this tour are as follows: Fort Charlotte, Fishing Village of Layou and Barrouallie, Walliabou Recreational Park and Buccama Beach.

We spent the day with Samuel and had the best time! He tailored our tour to exactly what we wanted and even tweaked it on the day when we needed to change it. We started with a visit to Forte Charlotte and has an interesting guided tour by one of the guides. We then went onto Dark View Waterfalls which require trekking through a beautiful rain forest (amazing!!) before heading to the Pirates of the Caribbean film set. We were also celebrating a birthday and Samuel arranges a cake! We had fun on the bus and he provided drinks, beer and WiFi - we named it the ‘beer party bus’! St Vincent is beautiful and he knows everything! He is also the best driver on the island :-)! Highly recommend booking him!
